      A Few Simple Rules   05/22/2017

Sailing Anarchy is a very lightly moderated site. This is by design, to afford a more free atmosphere for discussion. There are plenty of sailing forums you can go to where swearing isn't allowed, confrontation is squelched and, and you can have a moderator finger-wag at you for your attitude. SA tries to avoid that and allow for more adult behavior without moderators editing your posts and whacking knuckles with rulers. We don't have a long list of published "thou shalt nots" either, and this is by design. Too many absolute rules paints us into too many corners. So check the Terms of Service - there IS language there about certain types of behavior that is not permitted. We interpret that lightly and permit a lot of latitude, but we DO reserve the right to take action when something is too extreme to tolerate (too racist, graphic, violent, misogynistic, etc.). Yes, that is subjective, but it allows us discretion. Avoiding a laundry list of rules allows for freedom; don't abuse it. However there ARE a few basic rules that will earn you a suspension, and apparently a brief refresher is in order. 1) Allegations of pedophilia - there is no tolerance for this. So if you make allegations, jokes, innuendo or suggestions about child molestation, child pornography, abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors etc. about someone on this board you will get a time out. This is pretty much automatic; this behavior can have real world effect and is not acceptable. Obviously the subject is not banned when discussion of it is apropos, e.g. talking about an item in the news for instance. But allegations or references directed at or about another poster is verboten. 2) Outing people - providing real world identifiable information about users on the forums who prefer to remain anonymous. Yes, some of us post with our real names - not a problem to use them. However many do NOT, and if you find out someone's name keep it to yourself, first or last. This also goes for other identifying information too - employer information etc. You don't need too many pieces of data to figure out who someone really is these days. Depending on severity you might get anything from a scolding to a suspension - so don't do it. I know it can be confusing sometimes for newcomers, as SA has been around almost twenty years and there are some people that throw their real names around and their current Display Name may not match the name they have out in the public. But if in doubt, you don't want to accidentally out some one so use caution, even if it's a personal friend of yours in real life. 3) Posting While Suspended - If you've earned a timeout (these are fairly rare and hard to get), please observe the suspension. If you create a new account (a "Sock Puppet") and return to the forums to post with it before your suspension is up you WILL get more time added to your original suspension and lose your Socks. This behavior may result a permanent ban, since it shows you have zero respect for the few rules we have and the moderating team that is tasked with supporting them. Check the Terms of Service you agreed to; they apply to the individual agreeing, not the account you created, so don't try to Sea Lawyer us if you get caught. Just don't do it. Those are the three that will almost certainly get you into some trouble. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DO ONE OF THESE THINGS, please do the following: Refrain from quoting the offending text, it makes the thread cleanup a pain in the rear Press the Report button; it is by far the best way to notify Admins as we will get e-mails. Calling out for Admins in the middle of threads, sending us PM's, etc. - there is no guarantee we will get those in a timely fashion. There are multiple Moderators in multiple time zones around the world, and anyone one of us can handle the Report and all of us will be notified about it. But if you PM one Mod directly and he's off line, the problem will get dealt with much more slowly. Other behaviors that you might want to think twice before doing include: Intentionally disrupting threads and discussions repeatedly. Off topic/content free trolling in threads to disrupt dialog Stalking users around the forums with the intent to disrupt content and discussion Repeated posting of overly graphic or scatological porn content. There are plenty web sites for you to get your freak on, don't do it here. And a brief note to Newbies... No, we will not ban people or censor them for dropping F-bombs on you, using foul language, etc. so please don't report it when one of our members gives you a greeting you may find shocking. We do our best not to censor content here and playing swearword police is not in our job descriptions. Sailing Anarchy is more like a bar than a classroom, so handle it like you would meeting someone a little coarse - don't look for the teacher. Thanks.

There is a boat in Seabrook named Rawhide, probably from that era, about 40 ft. and looks a bit like a Santana/Schock. Any chance it is one and the same? I've never seen any one on it, looks a bit tired but a racer all the same, we've been curious as to what it is, where it came from.....

It sold and left Dana Point a year or so ago. Like someone else said it looks a bit like a big Schock 35. More than likely the same boat.

As I remember Kenny found a rock off of Laguna and mangled the keel/bottom sometime in the late 90's. Had the boat redone then with fresh LP, new sails etc. I think last I saw it it was beginning to look a bit ragged again. I think he was living on it for awhile.

This one's for you pickle....has the SC27 sold yet???

Redline (Hobies boat, pre H-33) .and Fred ended up in Friday Harbor, the boats now in Olympia, WA. and Fred moved on to a J-33 which is now on yachtworld for sale.

WOW! Bruce Lotz, he raced the hell outta that Cat-27.

Anyone know whatever became of the Peterson 37, Sunjammer?

Did Fred get a different boat, or did you mean SC33???

Had to burn some brain cells to remember Sunjammer. Remember it was originally in Alamitos on the same dock as my Grandfather's boat.

Moved to DP and owned by the D'Agastino's. Saboteer's parents boat was next to it in the West basin. No idea where it is now, but cool '70's paintjob.

...and who got the SC27?

Totally remember be strapped into a bosun's chair and hoisted on the 030 while my parents had cocktails on the D'Agastino's boat all the while rocking me between the two boats. That boat had an awesome red/orange them going on. RIP Mike D'Agastino.

Did you buy it?

Early hull # I think. Has a blue to white fade-out LP job with clear over. Clear was peeling as of a couple of years ago. Had a fairly nice bottom and foils when it was drysailed. P.O. lost the cover over the aft lazerette...replaced with a cheesy plywood contraption. Mostly crappy sails as I remember, except for a newish Ullman main. Came from Texas.

YMMV.

Too funny, as I remeber, that little kid was just a blonde little toe head that raced with his parents!

Yes, RIP Mike. He was quite the sailor, did some time in the S&S design office, sailed on Finistere, launched a sailing school with Steve Colgate, was even a submairiner in his youth. Prop him up in the back corner of the cockpit w/his drink and off we'd go.

Both Mike and Kay were like parents to me and I think of them often while sailing.

This from the king of "hijacking threads"

....and we're just passing time waiting for some one to step up and admit to buying said SC27.

...anybody remember the Ranger 33 Jerimiah - the owner wrote the lyrics to "Jerimiah was a bullfrog" and he had a bullfrog on the chute.

Or was I misinformed.

Maybe not.

Joy to the World ("Jerimiah was a Bullfrog...") was written by Hoyt Axton. He told me he was in the Navy on an old Carrier -- I think the Princeton. Never discussed sailing and he never mentioned a sailboat. Great guy! Friendly and funny as hell. Lost track of him and then I heard he moved to one of the Dakotas or Montana (to grow dental floss?). The world lost him due to a stroke near the end of '99. RIP MF.

He also wrote Greenback Dollar (Kingston Trio), The Pusher (Steppenwolf), The No-No Song (Ringo), Boney Fingers (Hoyt---"work your fingers to the bone--whaddaya get? Boney Fingers!") and a bunch more.

Extra Credit Answer: Hoyt's mama Mae Axton co-wrote "Heartbreak Hotel" while she was a Nashville publicist for Hank Snow who was managed by the Colonel (Elvis's Manager, too)

'Ssup? No one bought the SC? Y'all scared of cuttin out some Ply or foam core for new bulkheads? That ain't no big and a clear coat can be shot easy. Main's good.

Damn slip is a money maker...there's a big ass waiting list for them in DP. Get the boat. Find a $7K "buyer" for the slip. Get signed NDA w/teeth. Donate the SC or sell it for $500. Get on title with your new partner on his boat before he moves into the slip. Then sell your interest back to him in 3 months. Voila! $6 Gs in your pocket.

Ain't no rocket science.

What ever happened to the very cool Microbrewery up on the hill in the shopping center? Sat eves/Sundays they had some blues players in there. Luke and the Locomotives just came to mind! MF played killer slide on a National Steel.

I kinda remember they had a tastey amber called Red Sails, I think. To die for! Delicious!

Guess the Cruz is still sittin' there. Quel dommage. Damn. Someone in Long Beach outa step up-it's perfect for a breezy area.

Now try to locate that Santa Cruz 27 that's supposedly for sale

Can't see the 27, but I can see where I first got up on a surfboard, the dock where we kept the I-36, the overlook where I first copped a feel, and the pizza place where Silverbullet made pies when he wasn't chucking the OC Register into people's shrubs.

I think it all went bad when they tried to be a music venue.

Not sure if it was the "original" but was the Soveral 30 Michegaas the old Innovator?

And remember Ravage. Mucho customized Newport 30 I think? Owned by Trettor of Marina Shipyard fame.

I thought the 'Strung lived in DP for awhile.....could be wrong.

Added two more to the list.

I'm pretty sure the original Michegaas was not the Soverel. Got towed out by the original for Midwinters in '83 or '84.

Ives family owns/owned Ravage

Waiting to see if SD can name off this group without going into his old PHRF-So Cal rosters.

SD isn't that old skool after all! I knew my memory hadn't faded that badly.

I'd guess the plug boat was 'Sheeza' with Ribbet (your old boat) my second guess. However, I heard Midnight was the original hull with the flush deck (new deck added later) but what the hell do I know? Midnight's sail # would back that up chronologically 57991 Vs Sheeza's 67153 (don't ask me why I remember these things).

After lingering consultation with the panel of Scuttlebutthead judges...

Da. dada, Daaaahhhhhh!!

Your 1 st guess is correct sir!

Sheezaladye was the plug boat---Owned by Choate--new deck, not much interior to speak of...my old boat (ex Ribbet) was the one that has the Klegecell foam core and Midnight Express was a balsa core boat that Dennis Connor bought and faired out with BONDO (! ) I KID YOU NOT-BUT was sold to Dave Somethingerother (Windward Sails) in Orleans and was wasted in a storm.

NTAGAFSA (not that anyone gives a flying shit about!)

Now! Alex,

Shall we take up a collection to buy you a used skil saw form eBay so you can cut out new bulkheads out of a sheet of Marine Ply? Good luck with that project...and, seriously, we all wish you well on ressurecting that way cool Santa Cruz!!

BTW, who's hauling it up to PNW??

Trailer or a flatbed?

How much?

and can you show us pix of some nice tits?

Now if you truly know your DP Harbor history..... timeframe, 1985....what was the blue hulled, 3 freestanding masted ocean racing boat that anchored out just off of Doheny for about 6 months?
