      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

A New Day For OTW Anarchy

Recommended Posts

The biggest restraint to bringing you more coverage of more events has always been time and manpower. But last week, SurfCityCatamarans proved that deputizing Anarchists for OTW coverage is feasible and works quite well. It certainly ain't brain surgery, though it is a ton of work, and we're stoked that the Viper Class and Venomiss have worked to bring you live-ish coverage of the 2009 Viper NAs - the biggest ever regatta for our favorite of the 'Roaring Twenties'.

Welcome to her, and to all of you.

Venomiss, depending on the boat setup you get, I can probably loan you my Verizon card and CradlePoint router with a DC power plug so you can be online on the water. I'll be down there Thursday morning.

Cheers,

A friend just made a great point to me in an email. Here it is.

"You know...a lot of OTW happens even un-deputized.

That's one of the cool things about the forum is that it can happen organically.

I'm not saying that you making a separate thread under OTW and supplying funding isn't exceptional, it is. But many anarchists have put together texting coverage and sometimes with photos (like at the Chicago Etchells Worlds with Becky, Vegas and dixie) to bring the news to folks who want to hear it. We all did that run for free!

And I'm not the only one - there's a guy in the Lightening thread doing the same thing today...I'm just sayin' give us troops a little credit too!"

Much credit to all of you who make this place so full of great information, and especially to Wash for starting the whole thing off way back in...fuck, was it 2005? Wow.

Hi Everyone!

I'm excited to head out to Connecticut tomorrow and am trying to tie up the last minute details before I leave at the crack of dawn!

If anyone is interested in being coerced into taking notes for me while we are out on the water, maybe helping out with video/camera stuff and the like, please PM me and you can join the "fly by the seat of your pants" learning curve with me.

Also, if any of you Anarchists would like to ask questions for the Viper Owners / Crew, post 'em up and I'll pick some out!

Cheers, and see you all Thursday night/Friday!

Anything else I'm missing?

Hey Anarchists.

Finally I made it to Hartford and then had about a 1.5 hour drive to the Indian Harbor Yacht Club. ...the venue for tonights gathering.

The spread was INCREDIBLE and well recieved by the group who were ready to be fed after todays practice racing. Rumor has it, the wind was light.

As usual? The Rattler crew closed out the bar, and I filled up a little bit of Clean's shoes by sticking it out with them. ...

FYI, it took a bit of time to upload just these three files, so I'm not sure how long it's going to end up taking to upload video etc. Tomorrow sees us all at the Indian Harbor Yacht Club gathering up a boat for OTW stuff around 9am or so.

Cheers!

I am hoping my Dark and Stormies at the club last night will make me faster today. Sounds like the weather is good break in weather for us Viper newbies.

SW winds 5 to 10 kt...increasing to 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt this afternoon. Seas 1 to 2 ft

Sounds like fun!!

How did Stu Hebb do? Any interesting action on the water?

I think they got yelled at quite a bit at the top marks and they had to do some spins on occasion!

First time for videos be it actually doing them and then trying to post. Don't shoot toooooooo many flames here, I'm getting better as I figure it out. ;)

Okay...I'm stumped and can't find the "embed" gig, so the you tube name is: ViperAnarchy

my aplogies, I'll figure it out later when I have a moment to think straight! I'm off to catch more photos some interviews and the like.

ps,

I'm trying to find some volunteers to start writing down scoring positions, mark roundings, etc. Unfortunately, most of the day it was just myself and Chris so it was difficult to film, photo, narrate, and remember scoring places at once! I rounded up someone off the water and she helped quite a bit as I was able to "Tweet" the finishes/roundings.

We'll see what tomorrow holds, we are on the hunt for yet another boat to use!

Just checked out the vids, not too bad - had great conditions with sun and wind, see if I can't get Venomiss positioned a bit better tomorrow.

This fleet now has spectator / support traffic jostling at every mark which makes things interesting, only got waved off once or twice by the mark / pin boats (sorry guys), great fun trying to keep an eye on 4 spectator boats, RC mark / pin boat, stay in the safe zone, juggle a pair of 150 outboards while Venomiss quietly says 'hey can we get a bit closer ?'.

Huge thanks to Steve Devoe for use of that big bad Protector !

Day One

We promised close racing.

Four points separate the top 5 boats.

But close racing throughout the fleet with rugby scrums at the mark roundings.

So far its been a blast.

Westerly breezes coming down the sound 15 +/- knots. Big shifts upwind, so lots of tactical tacking. Ya Hooooo rides downwind searching to stay in the best pressure.

Porter broke his goose neck. We'll have him back today.

Hi kiddies!

Guess where I'm at? Heading out to the course on a beautiful Protector Rib boat courtesty of Stephen Devoe! (need boat work? Check out Jamestown Boat Yard...talk to Stephen ;) ) Thanks to Hyerstay for the connection, RockHead for the extra computer for when my battery runs out and of course the Viper640 fleet for putting this gig together.

I have two helpers today as well as a driver, so MAYBE? things will go a bit smoother. I will at least have some folks to take down scoring positions so I can post those up. I'll work on videos next. :)

Salude!

V

Ps, looks like a light air day. There is some breeze, not much though.
