Stevo, you know my thoughts. Why stop at 13? .If you want to catch us up the front go to 14.5 or join your mates in the middle of the fleet!

Good on ya Mr Alingi, you are a shit stirrer arn't you, how many boats did you have before Flat Chat or Indian Chief ?
Talking about Flat chat any NZ blocks seen her lately and how is she doing in the crater if still there
My Dad was over in NZ 6 months ago and went and saw Flatty and the owner. The boat is in Lake Brunner up the top of the South Island. The owner loves it and takes people out for day sails on the lake. Nothing has changed with the boat, all still the same including sails. Its probably getting a little untidy by now though.
I don't know if this story is true but I was told the kiwis that brought Flat chat came to OZ and sailed it across to NZ in a good weather window (that some big balls ), stuck it on a truck with the mast up and drove it to a volcanic lake where their pub had a lake side wharf where she now lives .This sounds so cool but hard to believe. can you Tell as the real story ??
That's the story. When the new owner from NZ came to look at it we took him for a sail up the coast, it was one of those memorable sails that makes you think why am i selling this boat. It was circumstances out of our control that forced us to sell it. As we sailed along, the now owner was grinning ear to ear as we powered up the coast and then back up Pittwater towards our club slipway where he was to have it surveyed. As we came up Pittwater i remember him saying 'there's nothing wrong with this boat that i cant see' and canceled the survey he had organised. He then called 3 of his mates in NZ and told them he was buying it so come on over. We couldn't believe he was going to sail it back and recommended he didn't, but he's a KIWI and that's what they do. His mates flew over the next day, they packed the boat and left 2 days later. 2 days into the voyage i got a call from them as they had a satellite phone on board saying they were 600 miles off Sydney and in 35 knot head winds. They had 3 reefs in and the storm jib up and all was well except he was a little worried about the dagger board cases and the sole of the hull moving as they went over waves. I reassured him that that was normal for Flatty so don't worry about it. I could hear the relief in his voice. This was why we suggested he ship the boat rather than sail it across the Tasman as it was never built to do a passage like this. In saying that it was a ballsy boat and a great offshore racer. Anyhow, they arrived there in 6 days, in tact without any dramas and all hands well. As you say, a crane and truck were waiting at the dock as they arrived. They cleared customs, picked up the boat, as it was with mast in place and trucked it 30Ks I think it was inland as there were no overhead power lines to worry about all the way to Lake Brunner where it now lives. A mate came across it recently and took a photo of it sitting on its mooring and sent it to me a few months back. It looks very lonely sitting there all by its self. Great boat. I'd have another one of those any day but ideally built in carbon including the beams. Once you have an all carbon boat its hard to go back! As Sean Langman once said after a Gladstone race, 'bang for buck that has to be the best boat there is'!

Flat Chat lives on at Lake Brunner West Coast South Island New Zealand, photo's attached.
I was in Greymouth the day she arrived accross the Bar of the Grey River after the sail across the ditch, all very uneventfull.
The story about the truck trip to the lake with mast up is utter crap again I was there the day she had the mast un stepped and was lifted onto a shipping container on the back of a Crofts Transport Truck, the mast was then lashed down between the hulls as per the norm and she was trucked up the Quay of Greymouth then through Taylorville to avoid the Rail over bridge at Stillwater and the reverse was undertaken upon her arrival at Lake Brunner.
My older Brother has been out on her and helmed with a grin a mile wide when he was doing a DOC (Department of Conservation) inspection approving the anchorages the charter opporates around the lake.
Craig Morgan the new owner has had alot of fun on her but ultimately she is wasted on the lake and needs to get up to Auckland to get into the action she seems to do well in again. Yes she is getting shabby but the constant wet weather and anchored in the fresh water does that. We have mentioned the purchase of her on occasion to get her up to the Auckland scene but to no avail. One Day....

My questionis has anyone done anything in Aus. please comment........
was it only talk ??????????
Has there been movement in that area but just not heralded.
Can we get an idea of how many multi are out there racing that can fit into an 8.5 rule, or something close
Is it possible (dreaming) to have a international challenge of like boats
I posted the above on March 6. Still no closer to sailing. How hard is it to get a mast (the right size) built by a rigger.
hope you shaneo and rob d. are progressing

This is my rational, it might offend some people but here goes
Really how often will we race each other
where I sail week in and week out I need a bit more grunt
probably never will I send my old cat overseas in a container
And my mast will need to be a bit different from all the lighter boats being built
Now that I've said that Im going to let you into my options (decision needs to be made soon) might get bitten for doing this, but here goes
Rebuild the old 12mt oval rotating mast $6500
Buy another 2nd hand D section nr 13 mt mast $7000
Build a new oval/D shape rotating 13 mt mast $8500
If possible build a new rotating wing 13 mt mast Aprox $12000
build a new carbon rotating 13 mt mast $20K +
All the above are approx. amounts and I am leaning towards the wing mast, to the guys in the know contact me if you know another option
cheers GB
Price for a carbon equivalent of AYS-200 mast (200x95mmwing section. Unpainted bare mast $Aus540 per metre ($7,020 per 13m), plus gst if you are in Aus, without a sail-track, or $680 per metre with high strength plastic track laminated in, incl slides and batten cars. Other track options can be discussed.
The weightis 2.0 kg/m ex track, compared with 4 per m for the alloy. Depending on your rig setup, the weight could be reduced if it was engineered specifically for your rig.

it's what you don't know mate
the taggers and hackers on SBA don't sail SBs, in fact most don't sail, the other can't sail an SB
the sportsboaters all sail with me
what you have accomplished here is become one of those Fanboys & turned a boating thread into a gybeset thread, congratulations
My advice would be to NOT ruin your forum into one like that, this in itself will bring them running, good work einstien
be careful confusing the internet with
you know, like when you shoot someone on a computer game they ain't really dead, or alive actually

Who ever wants it better do the deal quick, there is interest from every where
Thailand, USA, Auckland and at least 2 AUS locations
Although anyone who has seen it lately says that it is tired.
very interesting to say the least

Thanks for your input eric and Gybeset amongst others.
12.7 mt high mast ordered ( almost 6m sq extra of main plus an bit more for a bigger jib, now meeting the mast at 10.5 mt mark, not 8 mt as an normal GBE) , new tramps soon to arrive, ready to fit new graphics on the boat, soon to complete last of the painting (antifoul). Then all I have to do is take it down to the ramp (thanks to Indian Cheif for the lend of his trailer) and put it together.
The time frame is 10 weeks till dunking, a few weeks to go over everything on the boat, then start racing with RMYC on Pittwater in the Twilightes ( should be interesting as last year we had a few 25knt + evenings).
yeee haa bring it on.
