A Gale warning is up for tomorrow (Friday, February 17th) for all SoCal Coastal waters.  An unusually vigorous storm will create problems especially for some of the south or SE facing slips/anchorages here in SoCal tomorrow.  If you have roller furling systems or canvas up, you might want to save yourself a bunch of money and go deal with those today ahead of what is expected to be some actual "WEATHER" here in the southland.

Cattle, Small houses, Refrigerators and Timber along with other floating debris may also create some navigational hazards in Long Beach harbor on Saturday.

You have been warned....

Midwinters is actually Saturday and Sunday, in my case, down at Mission Bay Yacht Club.  Both Weather.com and Sailflow show rain in the morning, then clear Saturday afternoon and Sunday, and with light air.

Lets hope that Friday blows through, so that its not nukin' racing this weekend.  'Cause frankly, I'm getting way too old for that shit.

Be patient. Wait. Winds will be so-so. The seas not so much.  Hit me up if you need a broad brush look. 562 301 8334.

Light air on Sun with mixed up seas and swell running sounds like so much fun with 3 boats per class on the line for Newport.

The front is finally making some eastward pavement. Rain started about 90 minutes ago in Long Beach. Moderate at best.  The "Good Stuff" should start coming ashore in the next 90 minutes depending on where you are on the coast from PV through San Clemente.

Gusting to 25kts here on Harbor Island in Dago, nicely sheltered to the South thank goodness. Bay looks ugly - wouldn't want a mooring ball off Shelter Island right about now.

Today will prove to be a relatively docile day on SoCal coastal waters except near squall lines which will be few and far between after sunrise.

Not really sure why racing has been canceled at many clubs. Wind speeds are mostly in the single digit range.

It was brutal out there! The umbrella on my patio was almost knocked over. Maybe I should have closed it.

Regardless, I'll be telling the tale of the Great Storm of '17 to my grandkids. If they stay in town, they'll be impressed.

Sea state was our course issue. Pretty good size west swell made for some fun surfing under the code 0 when the R/C pulled the plug. But, setting marks and holding station would not have been fun.

Exactly. Though sometimes a really alternative could be used. The sport needs to stop chasing perfection in perfectly square lines and w/l courses. Nothing wrong with starting and finishing in some piece of flat water in the harbor.

I've been managing the Power Point program for the past few years to keep in the local scene and get a few kids coming out of the Junior's program into bigger boats.
