How very kind of the Oatleys to act as a test bed for the new Black Jack.! The slightly beamier Esmit/Alfa might also come in handy.

I thought they were off the same mould but seems the Esimit is wider and lighter according to ORC certificates

WOXI
Maximum Beam 5.092m Displacement 28,422kg Draft 5.895m
http://data.orc.org/...ll/CC/66843.pdf

Esimit
Maximum Beam 5.202m Displacement 26,826kg Draft 5.048m
http://data.orc.org/...ll/CC/64934.pdf

Christ almighty, is that their max beam? I feel like a fat bloated cow all of a sudden.. I'm thinking about taking more crew so we can get enough lee weight :)

Fuck, some of those people are still alive!
Bet you LB still has some orange Marlin PVC wet weather gear somewhere.
Most likely with a packets of Camel still in the pocket.
Maybe we should do a full retro race, orange wet weather gear, get thrown in the Gladstone watch house.
You know the drill.
It is not like anyone is getting younger!

Hang on , fuuuuck I still have the white Line 7 PVC from 1981 Hobart that I wear fishing!
Not sure about the aviator sunnies though!

I doubt that line 7 from 1981 will still fit you. You were 11 at the time.
Are they bringing back the fans in the bar for this years race?

I did it on a 50ft cat with a bunch of renaissance men a few years back. We brought our own fan, smuggled it into the royal port Curtis in a sail bag and assembled it behind a pot plant. It only lasted one jug of rum and coke...

Maybe but the Club's non-reflective bouncer/security people took years to work out the whole RC in the fan thing was a rich white boy who lives south of Caboolture conspiracy to get the club offside...kill the race and promote the Kepple Race ...a marketing ploy all put together by LB. Man is a genius.

Not necessary either. The rock jawed young men of the big boats are the images that they want. Relax lads, you probably won't find your image being used in a magazine ad for grinder.

Grinder??? Do grinders now have their own interweb thing going now???....that's really weird.

Those pooftas post race usually just met up aft of the mast, bitched like crazy, did some secret handshake thing, then drank quickly, went down early but while flexing their muscles and going through enough baby oil to light up a small city...

...but more importantly they were polite, dressed well and never cut anyone's lunch???

Did God really need to invent hydraulic winches just to get rid of them great looking grinder guys? LB must have a few editions of their calenders on his wall...well sprinkled in amoungst the fireman ones of course.

That sort of prejudice doesn't seem fair to me.

Fucking Rugby nancyboys - we took half a dozen of them as grinders waay back in '76.  Pfft - I could outgrind any of them, and I weighed 70kg then!  One of 'em skinned a knuckle and had to be treated by the ship's doctor!  Truly pathetic - and suggest they make their way forward to help bring the No 1 heavy back and they'd go wide eyed with fear.

Maybe they were the reasons people went to diesels instead. ;)

Edit: S-H, not B-G, just to be clear.

Double island point forecast for Thursday is winds 40-45 knots with 4-5 metre sea. Just your typical Cat 3 race area forecast.
The one person with the SSSC on each boat might want to re read the course notes before the start. They might have to show the rest of the crew how to put on a life jacket.

Some modelling suggests that could get upgraded to 60k+ tomorrow night/Friday for SE Qld. That's stay at home and watch Le Vagabond videos weather.

Where the fuck would Shaggy find two virgins? Not around Shorncliffe anyway. They are a bit light on for wise men as well. :)

G'day Rant,

Cool! We're doing a training session on Sunday, I should move it to tomorrow!

We could go out Thursday night, scream up the coast, then turn on the wind shift and scream back again.

But if I trust LB, it's pointless training in 30+ knots for the B2G or the Keppel, right LB?   :D  :D  :D

JS, that's making we wet, stop with the porn talk.

Shaggy the wee male harp seals you have molested against the order of nature tell me you should take that 40' piece of froggy shit out for a practise, say around midnight tomorrow/Thursday and they insist you do so having all the rag up....

I didn't know seals knew so much about sailing....vindicative little fuckers.

PS..those little know everythings also reakon LB (who they call uncle) just drinks Sherry and watches old gladiator movies noon until dusk???

All too wierd for me.

More interested in the story that Mooloolaba is planning a Mooloolaba to Airlie Race immediately before Airlie Race week using the Gladstone safety regulations.

This race is week after the Lota Fishing and Fighting Club race to Keppel but without all the Cat 2 bullshit.

The aim is to attract a big multi division!

It was bought by ex SCOTW Jen Tooth's Dad who sailed it for many years and i think it is now on a trailer at the Lota East RSL and SUPing club.

I reckon he will go nuts on this one, can't imagine any more Black Jacks after this and will want to take it to Oats and any other challengers.

... I'm tipping there will be no chopping the boat up.!

Not sure about that Terra..if so it will be the first boat he hasn't substantially modified.

Hope he goes all out..! Good for the competition.

I'd be very surprised if it doesn't get a monster makeover, it's well outta date in current configuration.

Out yesterday testing the new light air kite with the boys on Matrix. Our third team member is Kerumba, the Ker 50, so I'm hoping we've got all bases covered, just praying for that magical 14 knot barrier.
All paperwork done, provisioning underway, can't wait to go sailing. Roll on Friday!

What is going on with the forecast? Seems to be up and down like a whore's drawers every time I check. No gradient or weather system worth speaking of on the charts when they are forecasting breeze either.

Have a good and safe race everyone who is going.  I'll just have a few beers as I watch you go past at Caloundra and then a few reds and then maybe a rum.

Thanks Pod,
The race is on to get out past you before the tide turns, I don't want to be in that channel past the ebb if it is light airs. Give us a wave if you see 313 mate.

Have a great sail folks. Sadly I have to spend the weekend doing the good works of the RYA.
To the the Matrix boys remember in the unlikely event of one of you pulling a root up there, stay safe. Check the use by date on the end of the condom....wait. I forgot, you blokes don't roll them down that far. Stay cat 3 safe everyone.

Once in a generation current situation though!

I think you need to clear customs to go out that far to get to it.

I'm wriggling like a fucking tadpole! Much better breeze now, 12-13 with the occasional 15's . We were having great fun with 17-20 at 110t for a while after a not so fun 6knots work out of the bay.
Beautiful night out here, we've just changed watches and enjoying coffee and home made Anzac bikkies. Hope the 17+ comes back!
Edit: wahoo! 17 knots !

We'll, the old axiom of staying in proved to be true , shame I delayed the decision to head back in for one watch change, that cost us dearly, then I made it worse by doing it again off Breaksea. Lessons learnt the hard way!
The good thing is the run in from Elliot was magical. We decided to let the boat do what it does naturally, and let her run the hot angles, take the speed and bear down after you have the speed first .max wind was 25, max speed mid 15's and I'm happy.
Pride a bit wounded, but we learnt a lot, roll on the next one!
