PS -- if that "probably want to read the whole thread" comment is directed at me, you can go fuck yourself (I have better things to do than read entire big catshit fight threads - and yes I will probably see you this weekend and will be happy to reinforce this directly.

Gosh, I think we all have more important things to do, yet here we are. That comment was directed at the goof that claimed he had read the thread and decided to jump in after reading the old info and incorrectly assuming the boat that had flipped was modified. Even though the fact that the posted website was stale had already been pointed out (shit happens in the land of cached search results). Given the blistering spew aimed at Leneman over that piece of stale info I thought my comment was fairly restrained, reasoned, and on the mark, although not aimed at you. I'll take the rest of your comment about reinforcing directly to be tongue in cheek, otherwise you can take your own advice.

ok. I sure misread that! All I meant by the reinforce comment was to instigate an over beer topic for Sunday afternoon. We can still do that right? Sounds to me like the narrow tall ones should be sold cheap to needy beachcat sailors.

Oh, beer, ok, yeah, anytime! I was afraid I needed to bumper stun you in the parking lot with my Astro Van... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) That's a joke, son.

I might take a narrow tall one, but the first upgrade would be a carbon stick. Then I'd make the forward tramp material open netting to help some of air escape when she's fixing to go pointy end down. Three traps on each side. You know, for a 30' beach cat I think I'd just look for an ARC-30 instead!

But, hey, I had a deposit in with Reynolds since the day they were making a 28' trimaran. When that was scrapped and the cat became the boat, there were ultimately three models - the regular 16' beam, the 14' sport with a reduced rig, and then the turbo with 18' beam and a tall rig. The original design had been done by Randy. Then the call came that the new standard config was the narrow 14' beam and the tall rig, so that it could be like a 33' A-Cat, flying a hull in less than 10 knots. It moved away from what I was looking for in a larger fast cruising multi, got the F-27 instead. As for the capsize that formed the original premise of this thread it's hard to believe that the tall heavy rig on the narrow platform didn't contribute to the ultimate result, even though the sails were not up and the event was initiated by the sea state. That's one big heavy lever. If that's what folks want, they know where to buy it (last I looked Windcraft had a couple listed, not cheap yet).

As for this whole thread, I think the real conspiracy is that there wasn't much action going on here in the Multi board, so somebody injected the multihull equivalent of a Mac 26 thread to get the blood boiling!

Leadmine agress that Mike Linoleum is definitely a shit disturber.

I would like to know how many boats have been banned by any racing organization over the past 20 years.

The MucGregor 26 has to be one of the scariest and most dangerous boats in the water. Couldn't conceive of that high freeboard, chlorox bottle biatch in heavy seas and a 30 knot wind beating or running.

Yet the boat is allowed to participate in just about anuthing.

ORCA just needs to nut up, swallow their pride and allow the boat to race. They have event insurance and hopefully a signed release of liability from all participants.

I have no dog in the hunt. Don't own one and do not intend on owning one. I just do not like the fact that an organization has played judge and jury on a specific boat.

This is as crazy as the State of California just passing a bill which will not allow us to own large screen TVs because of the amount of electricity they use.

It's all politically correct bullshit. I will drive my fucking Hummer to the marina, go sailing and capsize my R33 then go home and watch the whole thing on the biggest damn TV I can fit in the house.

A Mac 26X would not be allowed to compete in any offshore race I have sailed without significant modifications that would be either not feasible or impossible.

Lead,

You are very wrong. Many races have minimum stability indexes that apply to monohulls, in fact ORR and ORC have calculated stability indexes within the rule and recommendations for OAs of different types of events. Transpac, Newpoert to Bermuda and Chicago Mac all use ORR and use the stability indexes to determine eligibility (or rather ineligibility, it's all a matter of perspective). With the outright absence of a multihull measurement rule and measurement standards this poses a real problem for organizing authorities on where to draw the boundaries, if any. It realy isn't political and really is driven by a safety concern.

Note to doubters, no need to try to enter your Mac 26 or J 24 in the Chicago Mac, it won't get in.

Very true, in fact one 'version' of the continuously morphing
Medicine Man was required to to fill the top of the mast with foam
before the boat was allowed to sail Trans Pac.

Right, but only while alone. In a society one's freedom is naturally bounded by other people's freedom.

+1...it is OK to be a "rebel" sometime, try to come up with new ideas, faster boats etc.,but is not OK to be a "bully" in the community...we all know what happens to them...and Leadmine37,go drive your fucking Hammer...ALONE!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
