Each year in springtime I have to fight with my lady about the 130 kg of lead in our cellar. She says that it is stupid to keep the lead for another year. Okay, the boat was sold 3 ago and the lead was bought for a keel project that never made it from the drawing into real work. But I have a strong feeling that the lead should stay with me ...

I have 500 kg of lead sitting unobtrusively on the patio waiting vainly for an abandoned boat-building project to begin.

I feel better about having only 80kg :P

You people are weird with your lead.

(Aluminum centerboard for unknown boat grabbed from father in law's garage. Right now I'm keeping it on the porch so it'll be handy. In a few years it will retire to a shed.)

about 5 or 6 years ago, I took some yesteryear round battens and a couple of old antennas (that had give me splinters!) and FC and I made up the flags we used to redo the race marks. Probably time for another set......

Bring the antenna to my new place. I think it's about 600 feet across the creek from my pier to hers. I'm sure we can come up with a launching system.......

IB, I have an update....went over to the mast yesterday...as most know, it is currently detached from the boat & at Spring Cove (actually I was at both..worked at the boat until I got too cold then warmed up in the Jeep on my way to the mast as I headed home..) - The VHF fiberglass mast is no good...the wires inside are shot...so I will be replacing that too...so in addition to the Apelco whip, I have the old VHF whip...it is only 56" long..the Apelco is 8' I think. - for you non-USAers' that is 1.7m and 2.6m without actually doing the math.

Speaking of launching systems - oh never mind...I'll just bring them over and we'll have a beer and discuss. :P

Well as of Feb 8, 2010, I have a classic Texas Instruments Loran ready for the dumpster.... so much for being a backup for the time when the GPS network gets attacked by UFO's --- DOH... so many useless memories that can't be put on the dumpster, of that esoteric display of TD's and interpolating on charts to get Lat/Long. So the big decision is now.... should I keep it's base mount and 10ft whip antenna for anything

One of those nice glass antennas that you get fibers stuck in your hand from if you are stupid or absent minded enough to run your hand along???

I've dumpstered two of those. Yech.

Hey,

Those make great flag sticks for seasonal race marks. Just brush a coat of anything on them (epoxy, enamel, poly, rtc to save the hands of the mark setters).

IB

Use heat shrink tubing instead.

I feel so inadequate! I used to make my own fishing sinkers out of wheel weights. Does that count? My silly little boat has concrete for ballast anyway.

My 25X45' Shop was demolished for so called contamination cleanup in the port so we moved all the shit I saved for the past 20 years to either the house (a somewhat pissed of woman resides there!) or the storage she rented for me. It sucks getting rid of all the junk I've thought would be useful someday. The annual Fisheries Swap Meet in April can't come soon enough!

To start out with there are the 8 Boats: Laser, 49'er, Thistle, Banshee, Thunderbird, GP, and Bellboy! Not to mention 2 dinghies and our 41 Pan Oceanic that gets all our money these days. 10 Spools of various cable, Boxes and boxes of Hardware, Electrical Shit, At least 2 Boxes if AC adapters but still can't find one that I need now, 8 VHF Radios, CB Radios, Speakers & more speakers, Lots and lots of line, Fenders & more fenders, At least 25 life jackets, 2 survival suits, Tools, Tools, and more tools, and never enough tools! Did I mention the electronics? Radars, reflectors, depth sounders, bla bla bla! 6 engines and 2 lower units, as well as 4 or 5 outboards! 4 gas tanks, 3 water tanks, 3 battery boxes, diving gear, extra tanks, welders and welding supplies, every kind of saw known to mankind according to my significant other, and enough paint and supplies to fill a container! Oh we did fill a container in the back yard! The garage was too full of all the other boat shit as well as the spare room upstairs! Sorry honey! April's coming soon and we'll have a blow out sale!

The swap meet at Fisheries in Seattle is April 10th I believe... Usually the same day as the Blakely benefit race which sucks since we can't go, but we get a lot of racers who stop by on their way to Shilshole.

That reminds me, I have about 25 lead ducks (spline weights) in my garage, so yeah, doesn't everybody have lead stored in their garage?

that is not a tape you'd want to see. It would make 2 girls/1 cup look like an ad for dairy queen.

My lead is in the form of downrigger cannonballs...a couple of 10#, a 12# and a 15#. Not a lot by this lot's standards, but I do have some.

I'd like to have those Barient 25s for spare parts. I need a large Atkins & Hoyle hatch frame. Crewmember broke the lift arm boss on mine. I think it's about 23" x 23".

Too bad, I sold my hatch last year. You'll be happy to know that Lewmar makes a drop-in replacement for the hatch. ;)
