On the down low and KEEP IT SECRET ( )... I've got two guys kicking around about this boat right now... one of them was one that I did not expect to be that interested. Heck... we may end up with 5-6 of these rascals on the lake by the end of the year.

Going to be one heck of a series down in PNS (sorry for the pitch... we'll... not really that sorry! )

If you’ve never sailed Flying Tiger…

100th Race To Mac - Sunday 12:30am 36 hrs into the race: TWS = 20kts; TWA = 100 3-5ft seas
One of my best friends is on the helm for 35min as I take a rest. After his first slip out of the groove and a spinnaker snap back into flow, my attention was caught. After the second slip he asked the rest of the crew, whose next and one says, “I’ll try”. He responds – “No one is ‘trying’”. I respond that I’m Fresh and will be up in 3min. Pure joy for the next 2.5 hrs 20-25kts 3-5ft seas. … 9 surfing gybes without apparent wind at 9-13kts boat speed.

The Flying Tiger has a great grove. Bob Perry has designed a finely balanced racing machine.

One idea, does anyone want to buy a mast section and a trailer, the rest should go back into a container.
We could get a new mast sections from CST Sydney. Just ideas looking for suggestions.

You could cut the mast through where it was joined originally and then grind out the sleeve (think about training wheels/depth guide on a grinder)... the replace the sleeve to reattach it. That way you are only up for a new sleeve. You will find that the sleeve will only be partially glued as a lot of glue falls off when it was inseted so it will not be as bad as you think. On the trailer if there was a cheap way to ship it to Sydney I might be interested.

last time i looked at shipping boats from the states you could ship about 5 containers to oz for the cost of ro ro for a boat as big as a tiger
plus inevitable damage
my suggestion would be to try and get an open sided container and cut the undercarriage/ tongue off the trailer and use as an upright cradle, might just fit
these will need replacing for australian standards anyway (a good guy to talk to about this is Rob from Robs trailers in Perth 0412730898 he rebuilt an ally import trailer for me a couple of years ago)
i would look at Uship for the mast as a whole unit might, be a cheap way there

just remember if the trailer has a vin you have to get import permission from canberra prior to landing and this can take a couple of months, or it will be either held at your expense or destroyed

specialised boat importers are another really good idea, they're pretty cheap and have insurance!

Sadly the prospective customer beat us yesterday, the first time for months, in his overweight 11mod. It was tricky..we got the snakes and he got the ladders! Now he his so happy with his race that it will take another few weeks before his continual wet arse will make him think of the comfort and speed of a Tiger again!
Meanwhile the suggestion of cutting the mast at the upper join seems best, a new internal sleeve fitted. On the container side, canvass covered open top 9ft 6in High Cube containers are available, Load the Tiger on its side by crane with a few matresses. The trailer could be attacked with an angle grinder and the bits loaded in the front of the box.

why mess with an angle grinder ? ( maybe for the odd bolt that has decided to seize up ) The trailer is totally bolted together, it can be completely disassembled if needed. Equipped with an impact wrench (air) the trailer could be reduced to the 2 frame rails and a pile of parts in an hour. The hardest part would be labeling all the parts.

The sleaved mast joints can be loosened, I have loosened them and know of a couple of other instances where the sleaved joint was loosened. It can be done. At a minimum cut the sleave at the joint and replace it with a new one from CST. ( surgery by hacksaw ) The sleave can be sleaved, if the original sleave will not loosen after surgery, CST can supply a sleave for the sleave.
