Mad Dog
Mad Dog 2
More Mad Dog
And one of Pip Hares 'The Potting Shed'
Mad Dog is a home built carbon number, which apprently hadn't been massively tested on a windy race course previously. I'd met the designer/builder/rigger/owner for 5 minutes a while back and we'd never sailed together before. It was also my first real outing on a mini, all in all, almost flawless preparation
It turned out to be awesome - 25ish knots TWS, DFL after beating out the solent before lighting the afterburners downhill and rounding Bembridge with the class 1 winners, having averaged 14 knots round the back and peaking at 19.something. (This may have been airspeed though, as the paddlewheel was rarely in the water) Sure it's all normal for you seasoned mini sailors, but as a newbie - WOW. I'm still grinning 3 days later....

i'd also met the owner not long ago and saw the boat in HYS, the bit i liked was the keel head and purchase lines were in the cockpit out of the interior and it looked awesome

Here's a shot from the Van Isle 360 - 2005 I think but NAMT or D can correct me.
![]()
G - Yup, 2005 Van Isle. Port Hardy to Winter Harbour. BAD start but we had a bit of downwind stuff to make up for it. Head a great leg going until we had to go upwind in 20knts all night.

No, you've got it all wrong! It was coffee not tea. Actually, I made the coffee while he drove, then he comfortably sat on the rail after I gave him his coffee and he enjoyed the "wonderful" evening while I drove. It was like a luxurious, fully catered, pleasure cruise for him.Furious D - I know for a fact that you live to go upwind at night in 20+ knots with a cup of tea in one hand, a Snickers bar in the other... and your brother in the cockpit driving. Downwind sailing is for losers.

Anyone know this Mini "No Koncept" at the Buenos Aires Yacht Club? No time to get down on the dock for better pics...
Nico the designer and owner sometimes posts here. He also designed the RG-650. No Koncept is for sale.

Am visiting Buenos Aires for New Year's and we happened upon the BAYC and the coolest boat on the docks was your Mini!
Bring it with you back to Vancouver, would be a lot of fun

That would be awesome, but today is our last day in BA! Our brief "summer" break will soon be over.
