I'm going non-pro, this is my first-ever time on something like this, user name is 'pogen'. I'll use this one to learn/practice , probably be more serious about the RdR.
Is there a Group set up to monitor other Anarchists or fellow travellers?

Be warned though, that I am a bitter, rage-filled asshole and liable to flick you with little or no warning.
I saw on the VR forum someone was bitching that the simulated polars were nothing like the real thing, does anyone have any insight on this?

Flash = sucky.
Also, I sometimes push buttons and nothing happens, I sign in and then get bounced back to the signin screen again etc.
Oh well it is free.

Actually, I don't have to sign in again when the 10min clock (you can activate it on the top right corner of the map) resets... and if you have it on, no need to refresh the whole page...

I was doing OK until I went to bed one night and when I woke up I had lost 14,000 places! Also fully manual mode. I'm now in the 11,600 range.
The refresh is a pain in the ass- having to log back in every time.
Agreed, and it takes so bloody long to load up too.
I am 1400 at the moment and have a massive hole inbeween me and where I am going...

The leaders are skirting the coast but I believe it is safe to assume they are not on manual mode like us cheap bastards,
Up to 5961 and trying to skirt that hole. Looks like heading westward is the way to go.

It should at least provide some good insight about the conditions the racers are going through.... damn, that's a big hole!

Oh snap, I spent 8 hours with the wrong sail up. OK, my strategy now is to look forward to the next leg start and hope to have the hang of the interface by then.
You will never win with out the full pro option, so wrong sail no biggie . There is still that thing down south the TCZ with its huge holes. That always slows the boys up front down.
Then the Sweet spot east of South America. The launch pad for lows that blow for weeks above 30K. The magic carpet ride is calling "Catch me if you can" .Dont give up on this leg quite yet.

Your lucky my wind up dates are at 2AM. With out TWD on the arrows this race it just guess the TWD unless I got a friend around . But thats no help for future game wind direction.
DEckman will give you a hand with the Course to the mark , to what ever.
Just get your Lat. Long. position from your dashboard in the game.

I got some PMs about joining, I can't keep the multiple names straight. I can't add or invite people to the group, you have to 'join' yourself and then I approve your membership.
I'm still trying to figure out what good 'groups' are. You can't seem to see a list of rankings, and you can't plot only the group's boats on the chart. VR seems to be a pretty shoestring affair, ASFAICT.
I did find a couple of things poking around on the VR forum first

The Guide for my friends is available in English
by Le Grand DIC TPN » 23 Oct 2010, 05:39
Dear all,
I'm pleased to let you know that I've finally published the English version of the Virtual Regatta Guide for my Friends.
I want to express my gratitude to Aengus (Ragged), who spent so long to translate and capture screens in an Irish environment. This is the best proof that there's a life for a French-Irish friendship ... even after Thierry Henry's hand!
Please visit http://vrguide.blogspot.com/
I rely now on your help to proof-read it and moreover to now contribute to it ! Please send me a private message for any comment you may have.
Cheers

This takes us back to the Vendee game days... dont know why they changed the layout of screens, ended up being really difficult to find Anarchy Group to register.
Lucky i bought the toys, wind angle auto pilot saving my ass right even though i should be under kite and heading SSW.
Oh well, at least not parked like it sometimes happened.

1. Easy way (list or table) to see your friends ranking/dist to finish
2. A button or option to show only friends green dots
3. As in (1), but for a group
4. As in (2) but for a group
The red dots are just a small sample of the competition, who knows how they are chosen.
It would be cool to also see a ranking of just the boats using the free, 'classic' option, but that would defeat their business model.
I got my kid doing her own boat, now she is ahead of me and criticizing my heading choices. We'll start the RdR next week together, that will be the real test.

I assume the top of the cluster is the outer limit of the circle centered on Cape Town that includes the top 10,000 racers...

Who is plotted on the above 'satellite' image? Only boats within a certain distance of the finish? And why to they clump on certain lines of longitude?
What does "Ranking - SO" mean also?
Too bad all these helper sites are mostly in French.
Only the top 10,000 boats are plotted...
I assume that SO stands for "Sans Option", no options... [edit] from the home page of the website "Site de classement pour les joueurs Sans Options (SO)"
I don't understand the vertical lines either...
#52
Posted 26 October 2010 - 11:15 PM
That image says a lot about how the game sees boat placement. The arch cutoff looks like a radius centered on Capetown. The farther west a boat is no matter how far south will rank lower than a eastern boat way further north but "closer" to Capetown on the radius even if land is in the way.
See page 23, 3.7in the VRG pdf below
Virtual Regatta Guide v4.pdf
Apparently fast boats ride close to the edge
See page 46, 9.3 in the VRG pdf above

I was wondering what the hell everybody was doing following the rhum line....do they expect to tack up wind to cape town? There is a nice chance to punch through the doldrums, but one still has to get west of st. helena high or pray that the low that is going to spin off argentina will provide them with a get out of jail free card.as the song goes 'go west'
I think people get sucked in on a trip to Cape town when their rank goes up the further they are. The fast way there NEVER goes east.
So says the idiot who started 4 days late
