Yep, the DAWG said we needed to start a new thread 'cause the first one has grown too big, 170 pages and almost 190,000 hits.

Next up on the calendar: Holiday Regatta, December 3 & 4th. Four one design classes, J/105, J/24, Ocean 20, and Melges 24 along with PHRF.

Just got done with the SBYC sail policy meeting. I proposed www ( Winter Wet Wednesday ) The races would begin early January and have a start time for the first class at 2:30. Classes would be CHRF, Harbor 20, and everything else divided into 2 starts. Boats 35 and longer and under 35. Obviously with any earlier start time and being in winter makes the turn out lower.
Working people may not be able to make it. It would not happen every Wednesday due to the holidays and weekend races. I think it's worth a try. I have received very little objection to the concept. Please reply with any thoughts. My crew is itching to go sailing.

Incredible and wonderful news for lovely Lisa (Bowman Chewy's partner). After several years of battling an inoperable brain tumor, chemo and all the trials and pain that went with it, she had a scan yesterday that showed IT WAS GONE. This is a true miracle and blessing for Lisa and Chewy and all of those who have shown support during this difficult time. Your friends are all so happy for both of you!

She put photos of the brain scan on Facebook. Awesome. They had lots of love and prayers from all of their sailing friends during the ordeal. Now onward and upward, getting you both out on the water.

Great turn out for the Holiday Regatta even though it was cold and not the greatest conditions, great RC work. The A Class got off 4 races with Skian Dhu now in the lead with 5 points followed by Taxi 7 points. Great to have Deke here with an Olson 30, but Blues Crews (J/92)Kieding/Baxter leads with 5 points followed by Perfect (Kevin Miller/Laura S) 6 points and Deke Klatt of Ventura with 7 points. Eight Ocean 20's raced with Fire Fly (Commodore Jack Byers and Pat Toole) taking 3 bullets, followed by Rich and Tom with 8 points. Third was Fleur de Lis (myself, Bill Bench and Sharon Green) with 9 points. There was also a J/105 fleet and Melges 24 fleet who's results are not up yet. Tomorrow is another day, probably with totally different conditions as another front may be coming thru.

Very fun sail today. A bit light & shifty. We had a fun time on Blues Crews. Fun to sail against great sailors.....Deke, Kevin Miller & Larry Levelle. Tomorrow could be anyones race. We will see.

Ok, let me rephrase that as simple as possible. Going into the second day, Blues Crews was in first place. By the end of the regatta Perfect took (stole, absconded,swiped,snached,grabbed, whatever)first place away from them.

I sailed with Doc Laura for a couple months a year ago while she got back into the sport on her sweet J125 and Janer is on me like a cheap suit.
It is just that basic.

OK, the rest of the results are up.
In the Melges 24 fleet TAX BILL (Bill Lannan) was a surprise victory over Average White Boat(Kent and his son); the J/105 class FREE ENTERPRISE stole victory from the 2nd place boat SHORT SKIRT (Pete Lufkin shared helm with Ryan Aubry.) Despite the weird conditions, all of the fleets had very tight finish times.

Very nice take homes, embroidered jackets, plus great party at the YC

To set the record straight there was a third boat in A Class, Sequoyah J/145 (Harteck/Parks) did participate the first day, took 3 last places and did not show for the second day of racing. I hope I did not sugar coat that fact.

A whole month till we start the Hot Rum Series.

Our new Commodore must be pretty damn happy winning the Holiday Regatta in Harbor 20's with Pat Toole as crew. Then winning the Holiday Parade, trip for two to Cancun. Buy some lottery tickets Jack!

This afternoon the jet sags back to the South and the combination of a big chunk of energy coming in from the North and a wet PWA of 1.5" coming from the dateline could make for some spectacular class 5 rapids up in the canyons in SB and Ventura county tomorrow morning through Late Tuesday Night.

Seriously, if you live near a dry creek bed or at the foot of a canyon, pay attention to this wave of energy. It could be epic.

Our friend Jeff Wilkes passed away early this morning. I'll post when I find out what we will do in his remembrance.

Yes. He had been living in Santa Barbara for many years, racing J/24's and making wine under his own label "J.Wilkes" which was very successful.

Jeff was a sweet, dear man--a talented sailor who gave much of himself to all aspects of the sport. He was also an incredible father. The YC burgee is once again at half-staff. Sadly, Stephen Redding, prominant business man and philanthopist passed away unexpectedly. He is also Johnny D's brother-in-law, so Key West is probably out of the picture.

The two Santa Barbara teams at Key West Race Week are doing well, sitting in 2nd and 3rd place in the Farr 30 Class. Deneen is second behind Barking Mad with 3,2; and Groovederci probably being driven by Austin Herlihy is in 3rd with finishes of 6,1.

Some very fierce weather hit there last night, so today should be interesting. Best of luck!

New to the Santa Barbara Harbor, Scrub A Dub Dive Service, owned and operated by Shawn Hughes.

I was born and raised here in Santa Barbara and love sailing, diving, fishing, anything that has to do with the ocean. For the last few years I have been sailing with Larry on Rush Street for out of town events and sailing locally on Missbehavin' the J/22. I love boats and I love diving so I have started a Bottom Cleaning service here in the Santa Barbara Harbor. I started cleaning bottoms 2 years ago for Salty Dog and have since created my own style and feel that I could do a better job for the customer on my own while charging them less. For you racers out there with good paint I charge $1.00 per foot/per cleaning for service every 2 weeks. When you want service only once a month the rate is $1.25 per foot. I also clean powerboats and offer other services like under water photos. Please contact me for more information.

The results in the Farr 30 class did not change much over the week. Barking Mad held on to first place with 15 points, Turbo Duck moved to second place with 25 point, Deneen 3rd with 29 points and Austin Herlihey (Groovey 2) fourth with 37 points. Good racing, Congrats.

A nice sunny Hot Rum Series here in SB tomorrow
