How bad did the click count go down after the epic thread disappeared, I know my clicks to the site diminished quite a bit.

What Up Grinder!!! Did the wife rub your nose in it or was she nice about the Pack?

Hello sailing season!

I can't believe how warm it is in Chicago this week after the "epic" storm and deep freeze of two weeks ago!

That's right, I'm calling all hands out - 5 weeks until we start spring frostbiting at CYC Belmont. (March 20th)

All V15's and Lasers are welcome to store their boats on the CYC Docks for the Frostbiting Season (FREE of CHARGE)

All sailors are welcome - you do not need to belong to CYC or any other club or organization.

As usual all volunteers are welcome to join us on race committee and at the YC for drinks and soup afterwords.

Little change to the plan for you late sleepers - 420's will be sailed in the afternoon (1PM) for fun racing.

We would love to see a PHRF1 and 1 design (BENE,105's,T-10) sailors in the 420's this year.

Contact me or Erin and we can set up a day for your group to have your own starts and course.

Come on down and charter one for a race around the harbor.

Check the CYC website for further details or send me an email with any questions.

I have not been following the thread so I do not know if there was bashing going on.

If George did it I don't know how.

I don't remember any bashing taking place. It seemed as though we were all behaving ourselves. Too bad we lost some good discussions. Time to start over again.

Come on I'm bored on a Friday afternoon at work.

This Saturday night - 2/26 - Who's going to what party when?

V15 fleet "meeting" and party - Corinthian YC at 6
J/105 party - Goose Island at 6
Boater's Bash - Colombia YC at 6:30

I'm heading to the Goose at 6 and ColYC 7:30-8ish. The Avatar is heading to the dingy-thingy and ColYC later on.

Any others?

Cheers,

Chaos

Hey Grinder, looks like you're fashionable:

"Speaking of great South African Pinotage, we now have a “Coffee Pinotage” called The Grinder! What’s this you may ask? No, there’s no coffee (or caffeine) added. It’s a category that so many are talking about across the globe. It’s the fashionable wine of European Bistros and throughout South Africa the past few years. It’s an exciting red wine category. “Invented” by accident over seven years ago, it’s the combination of domestic yeast strains and a big dose of heavily toasted oak. Bright coffee, mocha and chocolate aromas and flavors integrated throughout the wine. You should not find any adhesive or “funk” characters. The Grinder is rich (to support the coffee, mocha and chocolate flavors), it has tons of ripe red fruit plumpness, deep layers and finishes long with dark currants (almost Cab-like). Excellent depth and a very long fruity finish. Fantastic on its own or with hearty soups/stews."

Lifted from my friends at Noble Grape (owned by a little brother of a friend of... Grinder)

So we lost a lot of good stuff in the thread that was deleted after the thread that was deleted after the thread that was deleted after the thread was closed... How about that?

There are 3 party's/get-togethers this weekend, right? Something like 105's at Corinthian. CYC and ColYC at ColYC, Teddy posted something about no parking under LSD (Thanks, very good info to share). And one more but I don't remember where or what.

5Degrees posted about Spring Frostbiting. Could you post again please? No info on CYC website.

Blubberboy.... Well he just kind of posts whatever I'm sure there was a treasure trove of peanut gallery material in there.

And finally

Fill the Lake Party!

Fill the lake party was created with the sole intent of raising the lake level through Chicago sailors’ bladders! Traditionally held at the CYC Belmont parking lot as the parking is free. Bring your favorite beer, however there is a catch.

1.) Only imported beer, i.e. no beer that is brewed from water pulled from Lake Michigan or body of water that pulls from Lake Michigan is allowed. No Goose Island, 312, Budweiser, or Miller (Sorry Grinder).

2.) Whatever you drink must be deposited into the lake.

We/someone needs to decide on a weekend evening preferable near the end of March or beginning of April as its warmer outside.

Get on it!

yeah I noticed....but new subject. Since I am now the chief of AIII scheduling.....here is repeat of the official AIII schedule and notice for you who languished at MC for a full 24hrs or more, this year you just turn and burn. and as any Chicago public figure I am always open to bribes at the bar.

New for this year will be a totally reconfigured Columbia BearCan and two new non AIII races. The 2 non AIII races will be old time, now a days considered long distance, 15-20nm triangles or similar. CYC and COL will run one each. No dates have been set as yet, but likely one before the Mac and one after. These "races" will cost you about $25-$35, but no PHRF/ORR cert, no USSailing, no LMRSF, will be required. Just show up and display your numbers on the Dacron mains and you're in. We'll figure out the rest.

COLORS 2011

I forgot to add it here, but the NOR for the COLORS has been out for a full month now. Based on the experience from last year scoring disaster, we are back with Luiz' Yachtscoring at http://www.yachtscor...enu.cfm?eID=455
As always the Saturday Party will be a free, all you can eat Mexican, and all you can drink 312 party. All you have to do is to make your boat owner pay up the $150. I still have some 312 award beer glasses from last year to give out at the Columbia Bash because you all left before I could finish the scoring by old fashioned spreadsheet method.

New for this year is this paragraph in the NOR

14. FURTHER INFORMATION
There shall be shall be no whining! And no sniveling either!

Hopefully, this should keep some not-to-be-named owners out...but on the other hand, we like their contributions. This is the race weekend that pays for our RC excesses for the rest of the season, so show up or the RC will have to cancel our annual Caribbean trip...and then we'll make sure you have to wait at least an hour and half between races

Frostbiting Series
The Vanguard 15,  Laser and 420 fleets race Sunday morning in Chicago Yacht Club's Frostbiting Series. Racing is every weekend at the Club's Belmont Station and participants can enjoy a hot soup lunch and plenty of time to discuss the day's racing.  Both spring and fall frostbiting seasons last seven weeks. Typically five races are sailed each morning and around 30 boats participate each day. Non-members of the Chicago Yacht Club are also welcome.

Spring Frostbiting for 2011 will run March 20 - May 1.  Race Documents will be available closer to the season.

For more information email Chicago Yacht Club Race Coordinator or call (312) 861-7777 ext. 4956.

Chicago sailors will be participating in the Chiditarod on Saturday, starting at Wolcott & Hubbard. We have 10 cases of Fat Tire beer we need help drinking.
We will be racing shopping carts full of donated food from bar to bar with a mandatory 20 minute break at each bar.
Our 3 cart themes are: Lady GaGa, Traffic Management Authority & Gnomes.
The finish line party is at The Bottom Lounge at Lake & Ogden.
Stop by, drink some beer, witness some anarchy in the streets & maybe donate a few bucks to the Chicago Anti-hunger Federation.

Just when most of us thought that Chicago area racers were forever done with the CYA bullshit, after their latest debacle due to repeated inability to adapt, some of us received the following email.

-------- Original Message --------
Subject: Letter to Fleets for 2011 BOY
Date: Fri, 4 Mar 2011 14:12:42 -0600

Please respond directly to Jerry at rgjem@aol.com

Jerry E. Mm

To: Tartan 10, J105, Beneteau 36.7, Beneteau 40.7 and PHRF Fleets

It appears that there is some question as to whether the CYA will be sponsoring a Boat of the Year competition for the 2011 Sail Racing season. The unfortunate cancellation of the CYA Ball has apparently created this situation.

I would like to clarify this matter by stating that there will be a Boat of the Year Competition for 2011. The CYA is evaluating the CYA Ball and will be looking at perhaps a different format than what we have seen in the past.
I would appreciate it if you would send me your BOY racing requests as you have done in the past. This can be done by email, telephone or letter.

Time is important; your prompt attention would be greatly appreciated.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Cordially,

Jerry E. M

Chairman Boat of the Year Committee Chicago Yachting Association

For those who do not know,
1. CYA is not a race organizing authoritry and does not run any Chicago area races.
2. CYA contributes nothing to Chicago are racers; they don't even provide a perpetual BOY trophy.
3. OD fleets purchase their own trophies but are charged by CYA for scoring the BOY.
4. PHRF boats are charged both for the shitty trophies purchased by CYA and for the scoring of the BOY.
5. BOY is the blood sucking organization that used profits from the Yachting Ball to finance and justify their existence.
6. In 2010, Chicago area racers voted with their feet by boycotting the CYA Yachting Ball; enough is enough.
7. IF CYA disappeared today, no one would miss its existence.

For years, many of us in Area 3 have been trying to get CYA BOY to go away; it would be a horrible mistake to resuscitate an anachronistic organization whose time has run out due to its inability to adapt. This is a our chance to implement Area 3 High Point Scoring BOY; please don't let this opportunity slip away.

if you are an owner of a boat that races in an OD fleet, please contact the Fleet Captain and request that your fleet does not enter in the 2011 CYA BOY.

If you are an owner of a boat that races in PHRF, please contact your yacht club representative to Area 3 and request that PHRF sections not participate in the 2011 CYA BOY.

If you are crew on a boat that races in Area 3, please immediately urge your boat owner to boycott the 2011 CYA BOY and let Jerry M know that the boat will not compete in 2011 CYA BOY.

Yeah the CYA seems to have run its course. The metzger dude as been formaly approached several times about changing the BOY format for the PHRF boats to a format desired by the majority of the PHRF boat owners but he doesn't give a shit. He is not interested in working with the people who put boats on the water and he is equally indifferent to the fact that the CYA format is total bullshit. Serves CYA right to die a silent death. Funny to see that even after two miscarriages they still seem to think that CYA has meaning to Chicago sailors..................some people are just too clueless.

Fun weather, made for a joyful day outdoors. We have a new Aussie on the rugby team this year, he kept laughing at how the snow was clumping up under his cleats. Asked if this was similar to the weather back home, he deadpanned it; 'no mate, nothing like this at all'.

J-105 have scheduled some BOY races out of Belmont for 2011.

If I put a prod on my J30 can it pass for a J105? It would be more appealing to do races off of belmont instead if heading downtown motoring at 5 knots.

Regretfully informing you of the passing of a good friend and fellow sailor, Michael "Mikey" Gebhardt. Mikey sailed on many boats over the past 19 years in Chicago including Measure for Measure, Finesse and most recently Turning Point. A Gone Shipmate, like any other man, is gone forever, and I never met one of them again. But at time the spring-flood of memory sets with force up the dark River of the Nine Bends. Then on the waters of the forlorn steam drifts a ship- manned by a crew of Shades. They pass and make a sign, in a shadowy hail. Haven't we, together and upon the immortal sea, wrung a meaning from our sinful lives? Goodbye, Brothers! You were a good crowd. As good a crowd as ever fisted with wild cries the beating canvas of a heavy foresail; or tossed aloft, invisible in the night, gave back yell for yell to a westerly gale." Joseph Conrad

Oh, Mikey... way too soon, brother... way too soon. Fair winds, following seas, and peace.

CYC and COL got together this off season to think of ways to bring out the boats that do not race (maybe the Mac Cruising Div) regularly and this is what we came up with. This will be a low cost, non Area 3 series, no boat Certs are needed. We'll make one up. cost per race $25-$40 just to pay for beer. We have scheduled the races around the 3 big regattas, COLORS, NOOD and Verve to make sure there would be a good party to go to after the race.

Well it looks like section 1 is going to lose another boat this season. First Light is on the market. YES! I bought an ad. You can check out the website at www.firstlightsailing.com

Who likes Heineken? A cooler big enough for Rod and a friend (to live in) is included in the price. We can fill it for you for the right price.

No disrespect, love the boat, the owner is a real stand up guy on and off the water, and the crew seems pretty cool... However, I can't remember seeing these guys out going around the cans or doing much more than the Mac. Have they ever done the NOOD or Verve more than once? I do recall them coming out for a few (and I do mean few) time, and even then they seemed short on crew.

SOMEONE - Buy this boat and do some serious ass kicking in CHICAGO! I love the DK46. I saw the old Shogun (Melbourne) a few years ago. I briefly spoke with a few of the crew members of the Shogun program as they were gearing up for a Hobart on their new Cookson 50, and they had nice things to say about the DK46. The move up to the Cookson was no a slight on the DK46, I think they just wanted to keep up with their competition that were moving into Cookson 50's, RP & TP52s, and the like....

No offense taken. The boat has been under used. It was sailed in Florida more than in Chicago. We won the Sheldon Clarke overall a couple of summers ago, did the verve that season too. The owner is out of town so often that when we decided to put the effort together it was always last minute and usually involved short handed sailing with newbie crew. The Mac Race was the main event and the crew was set well in advance. The boat is awesome. It isn't a downwind screamer like the Cookson or a TP 52, but it is one of the sexiest boats on the water and despite not being raced much, has been continually upgraded with NO expese spared. The owner enjoys solo and short handed sailing. There are basically three exterior setups and two interior setups. He did the Solo Mac last year.
The boat is going to ship to the East Coast in May. If you are or know anyone that might be interested, get in touch with us now before we pack her up. She is currently at Torresens undergoing some cosmetic work.

If you're up around Lake Forest this weekend (Saturday), come by the college and watch some rugby. 1 pm kick off.

Look for the Griffin's sideline and look for the oldest guy on the pitch getting his ass kicked....

The MapQuest Address is 292 Washington Rd. Lake Forest, IL 60045. Please PARK across the street in the lot on the left. Do NOT park at Halas Hall – you will get TOWED. Cross the street and go to the right of Halas Hall through gate.

The Post-match social will be at: Hunter's Lounge, 324 Greenbay Rd, Highwood 60040. This is across from train station in Highwood on the west side of the tracks.

Later... Oh, GO THE CONDOR!!!

Hey all, I'm a college age student from Chicago who's just looking to see if anyone needs an extra hand for the Chicago Mac race this summer. I find myself with a glut of free time this summer after being Rejected by the All American Offshore Team and want to find some sailing to do. Don't worry though, my resume is more than adequate enough. I'm a team motivated guy with a good spirit who wants to help the boat go fast.

Drop me a PM if this sounds interesting.

I wanted to take a moment and thank everyone for the outpouring of replies I received to my previous post. Frankly, I didn't expect to hear from so many people and it was a bit overwhelming at first. I really can't tell you how much I appreciated all the great offers and advice!

Some of you will be hearing directly from me very soon! My humble thanks again to everyone.

Regards,

Sounds like a great plan - Thanks Larry!!!

Don't worry though, my resume is more than adequate enough

I don't have any racing experience, but I know how to sail.

Ok, so I'm in a bit of a foul mood right now, coming off a loss on the rugby pitch, but seriously.

How about -

....and if your girlfriend needs a good time, I'll hit it. Oh, and I'll smoke all your weed, and stiff you on the bar tab the odd time too. I'm not sayig I'm a complete tool, but I do hang out with whole bunch of douche bags that I'll bring around the boat to talk shit with when I'm tired of your deal. Did I mention I'm an up and coming white rapper with a recording contract on the Dopeshiz label? I played 36 with Pee Diddley last week and he said my shit was tight! In college I majored in ultimate frisbee and bong hits. I'll need to borrow someones foulies, a women's medium runs a little baggy, but not prob 'B', that's the way I roll.... I prefer to sail barefoot and I'll burn a bunch of CD's for the boat, oh yeah. Cunt Punt is on top of the tune-age. Wait, I don't sail with fat chicks, for real. I know, they aaright. But for reals, no fatties... And definately no fags. I don't need some dude checking out my junk.

Fourdeck, fivedeck, whatever. I'll drive that bitch up and down that fucking lake, yeah right! Bitch please...

BB - I've got to admit. THis kid is f'ed up. If you read his response to being rejected by the AAOT, it becomes quite obvious that he is not a team motivated guy, and definately does not have a good spirit. One things for sure, he will have a glut of free time this summer.

Dude. Someone MIGHT Give you a ride. Might is emphasized to stress the fact that no one will give you a ride. After the shit you have been spewing about the All American Offshore Team you don't deserve to be on the shore team for our shitbox J30; and trust me, we let some real assholes work the shore team for us ....

CP,

Don't let these guys get you down. I think you should just continue in the same manner that you've been posting in this and other threads.

On a related note, may I cite and/or interview you for a qualitative analysis I'm working on titled, "Our Country Going to Shit: The Entitlement Attitude of the Younger Generation"?

Oh, crap. This must be another sign of the end of the world.
Earthquakes, Tsunamis, nuclear meltdowns, and now this:

Anheuser-Busch to take over Goose Island

http://chicagobreakingbusiness.com/2011/03/anheuser-busch-inbev-to-take-over-goose-island.html

Goose Island Beer Co., the Chicago-based brewing powerhouse, announced this morning that it will be taken over by Anheuser-Busch (A-B) for $38.8 million.

Goose Island, whose legal name is Fulton Street Brewery LLC, is selling a 58 percent stake in the company to A-B for $22.5 million. The Craft Brewers Alliance, in which A-B holds a 32 percent stake, has agreed to sell its own Goose Island stake to A-B for $16.3 million. The Craft Brewers Alliance owns the remaining 42 percent of Goose Island.

St. Louis-based Anheuser-Busch is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch InBev N.V. (AB InBev), the world’s largest brewing company based in Leuven, Belgium. AB InBev was formed when InBev NV bought Anheuser-Busch Cos. in 2008.

As part of the deal, A-B will also invest $1.3 million in the Fulton Street brewery to increase production capacity. Goose Island sold approximately 127,000 barrels of beer in 2010.

Brewmaster Greg Hall will be stepping down.
