Frostbiting starts tomorrow morning -

1st warning is at 10 AM - should be a great first day of sailing!

V15's - Laser - Sonar in the morning. (10 AM) on the lake

Sonar - Rhode 19's (out on the lake) 420's in the harbor 1:30 PM start

Stop down and watch the racing - I'll try to set up the start line off the south point of the harbor,

So you can watch from the sea wall by the club (CYC Belmont) if it stays out of the SSW.

Free parking at the club for all of frostbiting and tasty beverages will be served afterwords at the bar.

Come down and enjoy the racing and then go warm yourselves up at the bar and watch some NCAA Hoops on the big screen. (Credit cards accepted - all are welcome)

Hope you can join us.

Alderman: Double yacht tax to pay for mental health clinics

3/14/12 2:17 AM

By: FRAN SPIELMAN City Hall Reporter fspielman@suntimes.com

Chicago should double the “yacht tax” that fat cats pay to moor their boats to stave off the impending closing of six mental health centers, a South Side alderman said Tuesday.

Less than a month before the first two clinics are scheduled to close, Ald. Willie Cochran (20th) is suggesting an alternative championed by mental health advocates and once included in the menu of revenue-raising alternatives outline by Inspector General Joe Ferguson.

It calls for doubling — to 14 percent — a seven percent boat mooring tax that raised $1.32 million in 2010. That would generate $1.32 million of the $2 million needed to keep all six clinics open.

The remaining $680,000 could be cut from the Health Department’s budget — by eliminating the jobs of three new deputy commissioners; wiping out $450,000 for surveys or by eliminating a $72,608 increase in the department’s advertising budget, advocates said.

Cochran said the boat mooring tax was brought to his attention by mental health advocates and it made so much sense, he agreed to champion the idea at a news conference Wednesday, before the City Council meeting.

“People who are advocating for that are asking those who have to support those that have not. That’s a very good way to support the community and the moral standards of our country,” Cochran said.

“As we look at all the publicity surrounding that soldier that did that shooting in Afghanistan, he had psychological problems. The more troops come home, the more people who’ll be breaking down. We have to look at mental health clinics saving — not just something that will cost us money.”

For the boat owner who currently pays $108 per foot to rent a 30-foot stall at Burnham Harbor, the proposed 14 percent mooring tax would add on $15.12 per foot, up from $7.56 currently.

For the yacht owner who pays $132 per foot for an 80-foot stall at Belmont Harbor, the tax would go from $9.25 to $18.48 per foot.

Health Department spokesperson Effrat Stein refused to comment on the yacht tax proposal. In an e-mail to the Chicago Sun-Times, she simply portrayed the clinic closings as a way to “deliver better services those in need and expand mental health services” to an increasing number of patients.

“All Chicago residents who depend on the city for services will continue to have access to quality mental health care,” she wrote in an e-mail.

“These changes have already allowed us to invest $500,000 that will provide 1,000 more people with psychiatric care, as requested by mental health providers.”

Matt Ginsberg-Jaeckle, a spokesman for a coalition of mental health advocates and patients, said fat cats can afford to take the hit.

“When the very wealthy take a mental health day, they take their boats out on the lake. In our communities, city clinics provide the only outlet for folks dealing with severe mental illness,” he said.

“The mayor decided it would be a better option to make 5,000 people who go to mental clinics suffer the disruption in service rather than impose a minor inconvenience on some of the wealthiest people in our city.”

WOW, I guess its better then trying to change, just ask the "Rich boat owners" for more because they have it. The logic is amazing these days with politics.

What a jack-ass. Keep reducing the value of what we are already paying for, strain our finances to ensure that only those who are truly wealthy can even afford it, and then block our access to the lakefront by holding special events that nobody pays for at all.

I guess that makes me the nut job for continuing to pay the increasing slip fees, and therefore worthy of using the crazy houses they seek to have us sustain.

Why should the city stop there? Maybe they should charge all the Burnham boats for the free music from Northerly Island. Or an anchoring fee to Oak Street or the Air show? The possibilities are endless..

There should be a toll to step on each dock, that way the city soaks users and not just boat owners. Rahm could put his name at each dock just like Blago did with the Tollway.

Evidently the lost booze tax revenues has not been made up by your increase in soda pop taxes...hence the increased boat taxes...

To our friends around the Lake, the Muskegon Yacht Club is hosting a US Sailing Safety at Sea seminar on April 21st at the Muskegon Yacht Club. Might be a bit of a drive but hotel rooms in Muskegon in April are dirt cheap!

More information and registration forms available HERE

We have about 70 signed up but still have room for plenty more! It is going to be a great day, don't miss it! :D

Might want to rewrite the scoring system as it makes little to no sense. Recipe for winning - go out and race the one race with the most participant and win it - you just won boat of the year. If anybody cares about this boy series it is not going to encourage participation in the late part of the season for people who have scored well in the earlier part. Kinda strange. But the final death of the CYA BOY was a given

according to the appendix you have to sail 75% oi races to qualify.

so this would only discourage people who sail pretty much every qualifying race, and care enough about BOY to blow out the last few just to maintain their average.
from what I recall most of the boats who sail every qualifying race would stay in the game for the last 25% because that's more fun than sitting on the dock/

of course if they keep the current wording i

RACES TO COUNT AND MINIMUM REQUIRED The series will consist of all Area III races. There is no minimum number of races required.

it renders the whole thing nonsense

Colors started as the Chicago Yachting and Navigation Regatta become the West Marine Regatta and finally Colors sponsored by Col. YC.

It started as regatta for IMS boats and One design boats (primarily the Farr 40s) that no longer wanted to do the Chicago to Mich City and return races to avoid that port to port race and not have a dead weekend. At its inception it was always held the same weekend as that port to port. It, together with other factors, succeeded in killing off the port to port but never became really popular on its own. Possibly through lack of promotion.

Chicago locks will now be closed the entire month of April thru the 30th. Working on the bearings or something. The only time they'll be open is April 7th from noon-4.

http://chicagoharbors.info/notices.php

Who want's to sit along the locks on the 7th and watch the traffic jam?

Puma Avanti is formerly ABN Amro Two. Il Mostro is an entirely different beast.

Is it ABN Amro Two that has already done the race or Il Mostro... looks like it is the ride from last trip round the marble. They held on to their previous one pretty tight till this go round.

ABN AMRO Two (the white boat)did the Chicago to Mac. She was bought by Puma as a trainer boat and renamed Avanti.

Il Mostro is the boat Puma Built for the last Volvo.

Looks like another great day for frostbiting this Sunday at CYC Belmont.

We had 12 Lasers and 14 V15's on the line last week.

Come on out and join us this Sunday.

Just a quick heads up - there will be no 420's racing this Sunday afternoon - High School Regatta has the boats.

Sounds about right regarding locks open with delays, but they've also got some dates (April 28-May 1) when the locks will be closed altogether.

Volvo SA Area III Cup Update

All have not finished Leg 5 yet, but I decided to update our scores anyway for those who have finished. The series has added a few more boats since last. The official Volvo game scorer has a tie for first place in Leg 5. Both Skidmarks and prettyhatemachine finished in 17d22h50m, so I have awarded both a first place. The scores for the bottom half will likely change as the rest of the fleet finishes. TP2 had a daughter delivered during Leg 5 and still took 5th place. Pretty damn good. Tonybowker didn't run aground and Skidmarks never slept, also pretty damn good. Again, note that only those who have finished as of Friday are scored below

Standing	Yacht Name	Leg 1	Leg 2	Leg 3	Leg 4	Leg 5	Leg 6	Total
1 Defiance 2	2	2	3	3 12
2 Skidmarks 9	1	4	1	1 16

Fuck this, my app was FUBA(lls)R for days, almost a week. This leg should be aba(lled)ndoned... Hey, you've got both Skidballs and prettyhatemyballs as 1... What about Irishballs and Countryballs? FUCKING BALLS! Balls, balls, balls, balls!!

Four-and-twenty virgins come down from Inverness,
And when the Ball was over, there were four-and-twenty less,

Singin' balls to your partner, your ass against the wall,
If ya never been laid on a Saturday night, ya never been laid at all..

There was doin' in the parlor, there was doin' on the stones,
But ya couldn't a hear the music for the wheezin' and the groans,

Singin' balls to your partner, your ass against the wall,
If ya never been laid on a Saturday night, ya never been laid at all.

The undertaker, he was there, all wrapped up in a shroud,
Swingin' from the chandelier, and peein' on the crowd,

Singin' balls to your partner, your ass against the wall,
If ya never been laid on a Saturday night, ya never been laid at all.

The village cripple, he was there, ah he could not do much,
So he lined the ladies against the wall, and he did 'em with his crutch,

Singin' balls to your partner, your ass against the wall,
If ya never been laid on a Saturday night, ya never been laid at all.

Miss Mary McPherson was standin' way up front,
Some posies in her hand, and a carrot in her cunt,

Singin' balls to your partner, your ass against the wall,
If ya never been laid on a Saturday night, ya never been laid at all.

The Village postman, he was there, but the poor man had the pox,
He could not do the lassies, so he did the letter box,

Singin' balls to your partner, your ass against the wall,
If ya never been laid on a Saturday night, ya never been laid at all.

The Village Magician, he was there, he gave us all a laugh,
He pulled his foreskin over his head, and he vanished up his ass,

Singin' balls to your partner, your ass against the wall,
If ya never been laid on a Saturday night, ya never been laid at all.

3 OffCourse 7 3 1 9 10 30
4 tonybowker 3 5 15 6 4 33
5 prettyhatemachine 14 8 12 2 1 37
6 Turningpoint2 11 7 5 11 5 39
7 USA88 4 12 14 14 6 50
8 Jahazi DNC/16 17 3 8 8 51
9 Balls2yourPartner DNC/16 14 10 5 11 56
10 RonPaul DNC/16 DNC/18 16 4 7 61
11 SoulRebel9 DNC/16 DNC/18 DNC/19 12 9 74

Thx for keeping track and the ruling on the tie. Leg 6 will be tricky... vacation with the wife and she is growing weary of my late night antics.

How does she feel about you playing the volvo race game?

She's ok with that because she just assumes I'm watching gay porn.

Faack i missed this one... flashbacks of John Valby!!!

The Village schoolmarm, she was there, she did a clever stunt,
She picked up her dress and spread her legs and whistled through her cunt!

Singin' balls to your partner, your ass against the wall,
If ya never been laid on a Saturday night, ya never been laid at all.

The Village idiot, he was there, doing this and that,
Amusing himself, abusing himself, and catching it in his hat!

Singin' balls to your partner, your ass against the wall,
If ya never been laid on a Saturday night, ya never been laid at all.

Owned Holua (SC70) for one and is a genuinely nice guy. Probably knows the difference between who's and whose as well...in fact, I would bet big money.
