Give it time. It takes at least 4-5 days for chowder to become self-aware.

Fall came swiftly to NE Ohio this year... the thread has gone into early hibernation.

I'd like to see a mixed dinghy regatta the Saturday after Thanksgiving-

I would like to personally thank everyone who came to either the Roberts Race, Leukemia Cup, Fall Regatta... or a combination of them all this year. I hope you all had a great time and if the weather didn't cooperate, at least the food and beverages did!

See you all next year!

I just received this:

Subject: Drew Wanenmacher

Please lift up a prayer for Drew who is in serious condition, fighting for his life, in Fairview Hospital and will be transferred to main campus Cleveland Clinic. Not sure of the details, will pass along as received. He has received 2 blood transfusions, and has internal organ damage.

Blessings,
Robin Richards

Subject: Drew Wanenmacher - Thursday afternoon update:

Not sure if you have already heard from others - Drew was moved to Cleveland Clinic around midnight. Both his brother Mike and sister Kate are here. The report this morning was that there was slight improvement in both liver and kidney function, which borders on miraculous! Please continue to pray.

Obviously a sensitive situation where most of us are not qualified to describe his condition - here's a paraphrase from someone that visited him last night - "not good...in and out of conceousness without ability to interact...many IV tubes, respirator..."

The only good news seems to be that he can receive visitors.

Now time for my editorial - Many Of us got weary of his lack of maturity, barefoot and bloated grungy look. Yet some of us have tried to help him (even scolded him for the lack of personal responsibility) shake the bottle and drugs, without fail. At this point it is easy to say negative things but lets do as has it's been suggested and visit and pray for him.

Your tax dollars at work: $500K Whaler for Cuyahoga County Sheriff to patrol the treacherous waters of Lake Erie.

Hey All.
I know some of you have already recieved the email, some have been waiting to hear the cold weather sailing news.

Frostbiting will be on this year! Here is a copy of the email i sent out to my list. I do not check SA often, so if you want the info you need to message me or contact me with your email address, otherwise you'll be left outta the loop.

Side note. I welcome newbies, but prefer some sailing experience. Dinghy experienced not required, but please realize that these boats are small and tippy. We will go over capsize procedures on Day 1 and see if anyone wants to demonstrate!

Alright, now that you all got sufficiently cold and wet during the Final Gun, we can start talking about Frostbiting!!
>
> We WILL be frostbiting yet again this year. It still amazes me how big it has become. I will send out registration forms soon so you can have them ready as soon as I get a chance to update them.

Here is what you need to know!
> Frostbiting will begin on Sunday Oct 21st. Show up at 9:30 (this may get bumped earlier, unless we can rig boats on the 20th- so hint hint, who wants to rig up some boats on the 20th?) at EWYC.
>
> Every participant does not need to be a club member, but WILL need to fill out the necessary registration and waiver. If you're interested in just helping with RC, please let me know!
>
> Everyone will be asked for a member # or a damage deposit of $100 to be turned in before you sail the first time. This is held on file for the season.
>
> NEW THIS YEAR: we are asking for a mandatory $20 registration fee. This will go towards powerboat gas, and any money at the end that is leftover will go towards the boat mainatence. (ie bungee, line, plugs, pins and rings)
>
> ALSO: make sure you and whoever you are sailing with are dressed appropriately. Judging by the weather lately, I am not sure we will have many of our 70+ degree weather on sunday mornings. I will send out our weather policy to everyone prior to the 21st.
>
> Any questions let me know- i know this was a brief email, but figured i had to get something out to the masses!

A couple of us are free Saturday to rig. Time? Also, can we use a membership number from CYC for the damage deposit or just credit card/check/cash?

Looking beautiful for Sunday...7-9 kts SSW, sunny and 50 degrees.

Aside from there being zero Tits on your first post, That was a sweet vid.

I grew up on a T44 similar to yours. Great boats!

Also a kiter. That drift launch off the transom can get dicey, nice job!

I believe you should have gotten an updated email today.
Other clubs member #s are not accepted for the damage deposit, sorry. Check/cash only.
I believe you're welcome to use your CYC # in the bar after racing though? :-)

There is another link at the bottom to the photos of RR.

Also, I just heard a catamaran on A dock at Edgewater YC is swamped. And why would anyone in their right mind leave a furled jib on board during this? (Klew-less perhaps?)

Tried to get down to CYC but got turned back. They're not letting anyone on the island. Stopped halfway up the hill and go a look at the boats under the lake road bridge. The matthews seemed to be listing pretty good to port. Looked like Tsunami and a couple power boats were still in their slips on south island at CYC. Drove down behind the Westlake and found the marina's floating dock wiped out (2 boats adrift). Boats at Emerald Necklace: Video Here

At least 5 sailboats sunk at edgewater marina. Probably an equal number of powerboats. Real carnage. Bridge docks in rocky river were ripped from seawall and tossed into westlake marina/dockaminiums, with the three powerboats that were still there. I've never seen the river so high or fast. A lot of trees and trash going with it. Omg!!

Only Whiskey Island in those photos.

There is another link at the bottom to the photos of RR.

Heard from HullFlyer: boats/dock from the metroparks broke loose. CYC is still without power and still closed to members. Tree took out laser racks.

Whiskey is open but the docks are roped off. Lots of damage, including a 20ish foot sailboat on the rocks. The blue retaining barrels broke loose so the marina was more or less wide open for the high water. Boats are smashed up against each other. A lot of the docks are ripped apart.

Thanks Corey -- I, along with several others, have our Highlanders, etc dry sailed there on trailers... and wanted to go check them out. Hoping they're okay!

Got down to WIM last night... it's like a bomb went off. The dry sailed boats that I could see were all okay, minus a few minor things here and there. Who knew my 40 yr old Highlander could survive a superstorm/hurricane?

Pics from upstream of CYC yesterday. Emerald Necklace docks from and including gas dock south- gone. 12 boats reportedly swept out to lake. Some boats damaged at CYC. Some docks and boats damaged at Westlake Hotel Marina damaged. Some of the docks in the pic are what's left of some of Emerald docks as they floated across the river to the WM docks. Overturned boat is in lake off Kensington Oval park. Probably form Emerald Necklace

I would contact Skip Dieball - he knows a "ton" about these boats...
Or maybe Jim Titgemeyer, he's been interested in them for 50 years...
From what I've heard, they're mostly not as stiff as some of the others...
But I'm no expert...

Dog, contact Nick Turney down at North Sails/Sailing Inc ( 216-361-2594)
Nick has been a long time Thistle sailor, among all other small boats. Has a great knowledge on all builders and designers. Knows what numbers are worth the price and which ones will hold you back.

Some of our North Cape sailors were out for a Thanksgiving morning sail and reported that they could see the bottom in 15-plus feet of water. Absolutely unheard of for our part of the lake.

frostbit one day at EYC about a month ago, perfect sailing 8-11 SE. water temps low enough that sinking or getting seperated from the boat would be a likely fatal mistake without on-hand safety support.....

It will be great to see more sporties on LE this year! Excited for the "Tripple Crown" also, hopefully it will bring some more 1d racers to the area. Went to the PHRF meeting at ILYA and it looks like they are moving in the right direction and talking about a way to get the J70s and M24s on the PHRF course legally if there arent enough for one design. Keeping my fingers crossed. Any other LE boats headed down south this winter for KW or CRW? Things are looking good for LE racing this year.

My guess is that he has left the sport. When they won't let you race your M24. For many owners, this "revelation" by PHRF-LE is going to be too late.

Spaceman and mini spaceman will be down there. The 400 is already basking in the sun and the J70 heads that way in a few days, on a very interesting flatbed trailer that includes another J70 and the Spaceman gear trailer. Should look pretty cool.

Can't wait!
