My wife and I stopped at EYC yesterday after a extended hiatus from racing.I was really impressed with EYC's race management,orginization and the do what it takes attitude to make racing at EYC a great experience for the competitors.Was more impressed that they seem to have very competitive fleets with a great turnout on a weekly basis.That comes about with commitment from the sailors and hard work from all of the volunteers.Keep up the good work.

Have raced in the Cleveland area for 30 years plus out of MHYC.Work took me south for a bit but I'm back in NE Ohio for good.Will be racing with a old friend of mine out of EYC on his newly arrived T10 starting this weekend.The boat was not ready last weekend.Was so impressed with the changes and improvements at EYC my wife and I are looking at becoming members.I have to follow up this weekend with some contacts I spoke with last weeknd.

Ah, that answers my question re: the new 10 listed on the entrants. Welcome (back) to the knucklehead-ery. And remember, if you swap paint you have to throw the protest flag immediately or get your protest thrown out. Looking at the boats on the line the possibilities are somewhat smaller than last weekend.

there is a brand new J70 down at ewyc yesterday and today taking interested peeps out for a sail

went for a ride last night - pretty nice, quick and well built boat
was suprised how stable it is and still responsive

Lakeside Yacht Club proudly presents the 82nd Regatta and Ruhlman Cup. LYC would like everybody to come join us and come enjoy the great event that is planned. We have some exciting new ideas to make your regatta weekend even more enjoyable. These include multiple races on a single day (with possible longer distance race), music as soon as you get off the water (Saturday) and more to come.

Thanks for that catch -- I'm embarrassed to admit this but, after loading up all the new docs... I didn't update the links to the 2012 files. To be fair, it's not like I took any website classes in school! Should be fixed within the hour.

Also, for CYC peoples, the entry form will be available in the CYC clubhouse lobby... for EWYC and other clubs, I have asked their respective fleet captains to kindly distribute via email.

Here's the electronic forms for the SA bunch as well -- if I did it correctly, you should be able to open up the PDF entry form and just type directly into it.

Shameless bump -- with the race exactly one month away, looking forward to seeing everyone! Whomever would like to take their swings at the new Mrs. Ed on the JAM start line... will get their chance!

Pending on fleet splits, yes, planning on having the JAM fleet(s) start early around 0800 or 0830... followed by the PHRF fleets probably closer to 0930 or 1000.

Right now, I am praying for some more wind in the forecast, especially if I am on a Beneteau.

How come nobodies bitching that the scores aren't on line or something? Oh wait....thats because they are and have been.

Schockstar's new home...From the SA from the front page:how to train your dragon - The Schock 40 was both one of the more adventuresome production 40 footers and one of the worst. Canting keel, forward rudder, sketchy build, As famously said in punk rock documentary, the Decline of Western Civilization, "it was fucked, but it was great." Anarchist Pete just bought one and below he describes the joys of learning how to sail such a creature during Ullman Sails Long Beach Race Week...As for us, well this is a learning experience with the new boat in our first regatta.  We had five new people on board including two dinghy sailors from UCLA.  While talented they quickly found that handling a 1,650sf A2, the size of a large 2 bedroom apartment is little different than a 29'er.  The twin foil, canting keel Schock 40 is different than any boat I have ever sailed.  If there is anything we have taken away is how to tack the boat in heavy air.  The twin foils on this boat are narrow and deep and when you tack if the main is on hard the boat wants to round up.  When it does, you lose flow and the boat immediately  goes in irons and literally starts going backwards.  This happened to us three times in day 1.  Note to self, back wind a few seconds on the jib to bring the bow around and ease the main to keep the boat on its feet.  And broaching is a wild experience.  With the keel at a 60 degree cant the boat rolls and you bury the weather rail and getting the boat to come out of it can be quite tricky.  We sheared off the clutch handle on the tack line in one wild one.  Fortunately we have a spare.  We went 4-4-4 for a total of 16 points.  There are two boats tied for 2nd with 15 points so 2nd place is within striking distance if we have a good day Sunday.  I would consider a second a very successful first regatta. 06/26/12

Damned if you do damned if you don't... it's already a big spread between the Farr 400 and the Henderson so... I maybe would have thrown Capers into A if only for the sprit... but where do you put Blue Dog? Move them to E with the 75 and 78 and 90 class? At that point at least you have a level 72 class, but you're still going to upset Capers and/or BD.

Level 72 was not advertised. Splits are not easy when we have boats so dissimilar. Capers did not fit. I could not see them in A. We had 7 Farr 30s registered. 6 of them paid. Jim, you had one once you know the situation... Interesting that I did not hear any complaints from the "level 72" sailors..... Are we going to have enough 105s at Bay Week to have them on the OD course?

Regarding the issue of PHRF C and the seven 72's I don't know if I speak for the other 6 but while it would have been nice to only have us in the class we were really only racing each other anyway. The 120 was gone early in each race and going its own way and different angles. There have been some years past where RC was able to keep it all 72 and that was great but I understand there was no other good place to put the 120 and 115.

In the bigger picture CRW 2012 was a super event as usual - great job again by Titge and company on the water. EYC is a good club and we even got a dock spot right up front!

Too bad we missed out on a beautiful sail through the inner harbor on Friday night - but the chili was ready!

These include multiple races on a single day (with possible longer distance race), music as soon as you get off the water (Saturday) and more to come.

There will be a keg, pop, cash grill tomorrow evening at Topsides, our pool deck bar at the center of the island. There, I will be putting together scratch sheets as fast as the entries keep pouring in, as well as partaking in several adult beverages.

By 8pm I expect to have splits and start times all worked out. I will also be passing out parking passes for skippers' cars only (sorry, out of my hands), and CYC will be running a shuttle from the top of the hill Saturday morning.

As for the race on Saturday, I will be starting JAM first (one start) at approximately 0930 (maybe 0945). PHRF will likely have one start as well (if I get a plethora of last minute entries we may have 2 starts) at approximately 1000. I will hold a skipper's meeting at approximately 0800. By the time the boats leave the rivermouth the finish mark will have been set for anyone that would like to motor by it and plug it into their GPS -- otherwise, all marks of the course will be found in the SI's (with their GPS coordinates) and available both Friday evening and Saturday morning -- if you haven;t already printed them out from our website.

I will be requesting the first boat(s) to call my cell phone approximately 1 hour out from their finish. One reason is so I can have the keg from Friday night set back out for rehydration purposes.

Sunday, we will host awards under the tent -- where there will be another keg, pop, and we will be serving our delicious gyros (made famous at our Fall Regatta). I also welcome anyone and everyone to check out our new display and refurbishment of the F W Roberts Race trophy in the main lobby of the clubhouse. This past winter we worked hard to get a larger base built and finished, updating each year to reflect up to last year's winner, First Tracks.

Was a great day on the water but when ETA went to independence day on the western buoy with 5kts of on the nose flow, the engine was deployed for a most pleasant motor back to CYC. Congrats to whomever endured to finish.

Oddly, the juniors sailing @ Mentor had 20kts + of wind for nearly an hour around 11am. The most we saw was 11 off the crib.

The breeze looked solid at the start. No fun with the air turning off on the way to the crib. Had some issues getting dialed in rounding the crib. Tracks heated up inside and legged out ahead. We tacked out just before the AL power plant on a header and came out pointing just off rumbline to the EWB. Tracks and Vamp went with us but then went back over. We didn't cover figuring we were in a good spot doing TWS and pointing right at the mark. We saw both boats dissapear and figured they were following Rugger's MS Paint map. We saw 5-6 kts boat speed with a decent lift to the mark. Wind cut out right before the buoy but then filled in about 10 miles off Lorain. Saw 8-9 kts boat speed through the breakwall then about 9 average on the reach to finish. Good fireworks, decent moon and nice temps all the way to finish around 11:15. Congrats to all the teams that hung in until the finish. Thanks Rugger for keeping this great race rolling.

Thanks to all for attending the 2012 running of the F W Roberts Race at CYC. Congratulations go out to:

Bobsled for winning the Roberts Race Trophy in PHRF, with Fever and Blue Dog taking 2nd and 3rd overall, respectively.

Mrs Ed for winning the Hurlbut Trophy in JAM, with Cotton Blossom and Sirocco taking 2nd and 3rd overall, respectively.

Speaking of Cotton Blossom, as the R Class has been a proud and historic tradition at CYC for over 50 years, I sound off a loud thank you and congratulations to them for representing their class well in this year's race. Here's to seeing them get a OD class for 2013.

For those that stuck out the light stuff, I hear the dusk/night time leg along the coast was a great ride home. For those that got done in by the sunshine earlier in the day, I thank you all for coming out and certainly hope to see you all again next year.

I haven't found the results online either. From glancing at the results after the race, PHRF A and overall winner Badfish, PHRF B winner Infrared, JAM winner Lunasea, Multihull winner Myira. Great race with a rich history and a challenging course around the Lake Erie islands.

Our Captain instituded a massive physical fitness program as you can see... Joe and Chris have slack'in at the gym and spending wayyy too much chasing "skirt" so they were put on awards ceremony detail while the rest of us were putting in hours at Urban Fitness...
