I guess you can take any town's name and name your business after it? Too bad.

You can name a business pretty much anything you like.

There is a company named "Seattle's Best Coffee". It's not. Posted Image

There is a company called "Sailors NYC" which does nothing more than collect money for nothing at all. Posted Image

There is nothing to stop you from creating a company named "altruism.org" and have all the donations go to straight to your bank account.

Just got a call from the Better Business Bureau. They said I qualified for a "premium rating".. But they wanted me to pay them for it.
This has nothing to do with thisbut it came just as I was reading this thread.

i cant find the actual written case- any legal whizzes wanna take a stab at it? also, not sure if a civil suit would help to prove criminal acts.

I would think that truth would be an affirmative defense, and that ruling would be probative on that issue.

Certainly all discovery in that lawsuit would be useful discovery for an affirmative defense in this case. So would all documents and testimony from First Marblehead corporate officers and staff regarding DM's resignation related to the "improper gifts" he admits giving an officer of a client company. So would all investigations from the client company (Bank of America), which from my understanding sacked that officer for violating their ethical code of conduct. And this is only the admitted incident, so discovery from ALL of First Marbleheads OTHER past, concurrent, and current clients needs to be obtained to determine whether this was a pattern.

That's just for starters.

Gonna need more harpoons and a bigger boat.

I would think such documentation would be available as public records, being that the companies we're talking about are publicly traded. Not to mention court records to back it up. If Meyers did lose this $45m lawsuit, why is there no record of it? Surely one couldn't just 'delete' court records without being labeled as a grifter now could they???

The BBB is like any other business. It serves its members. It does not have any reason to serve the public or those who are not members.

BBB is one of the single most successful scams going and managers of similar scams like USSailing and IYRU and any One design class should consider them as a model to be imitated.

I'm just curious to read the case, that is if it even exists.
