I realize that many of you are cleaning up after Irene, but I just wanted to let folks in the Annapolis area know that I have the Spike Burgee and I'd like to circulate it around for signing. We can meet as a group at a mutually agreeable place and time, raise a glass and sign the burgee, or if I have to, I'll drive around and hit as many folks as possible, individually.

Please PM me, and we'll get something set up. Let's keep it moving.

You'll have noticed (I hope) that the Womboat is doing the Heaven Can Wait ..... is there any chance of getting the Burgee to Sydney before then ? I would love to fly it through the race.

Burgee arrived today kdh, safe and sound, thanks.

It was quite sobering actually to open it and see all the signatures. I got a feeling of being there at the wake, it was a nice feeling.

The best thing is we antipodeans get a whole side to ourselves! The Europeans couldn't afford the postage!!

Bad Tony.

No...and I can't explain it. I wasn't comfortable with it in the house. It's almost like it was too important for me to be trusted with it.

Still have his balls?
He's looking healthy. A biy bony in the aft quarters though. What is he an IOR bull?
Don't forget the blanket on these chilly nights. Give him a shot of scotch now and then and tell him why.

That's not him. That's a cow. He's doing fine. We actually have kept him and brought the kid in - they didn't have the know-how, facilities or funds to raise a calf. The kid is doing it through FFA, which we sponsor.
He is over 800 pounds now. Still too young for scotch.

Besides, if I bought a bottle of scotch, I'd take a nip and be in trouble with my wife.
I have a problem with being wrong but believing I'm right and getting really annoying when I drink scotch.

Love the stuff. It doesn't love me back.

Austin:
Here's what you do. First off I knew damn well that was a cow. Hell they all look like cows to me unless I can see their junk. I know cows. I've seen a lot of westerns.
Now, when it's quiet at night sneak my bull into the basement. Make a soft place for him, don't forget his blanket, then pull out the bottle of scotch and sit next to him with your arm around his neck and you drink the scotch while talking to my bull.
I can just see it. If your wife cathes you it will so cute she won't have the heart to get mad. Trust me I know as much about women as I know about cows.

I am glad you are keeping him. He's a growing boy.
Bulls like beer.

I had the same issue with Spike's burgee...it spent several days on my kitchen counter as I admired all of the signatures...even after IB came over and signed it which was the first excuse. I felt guilty for keeping it so long and finally signed it and sent it on.

Ad: a few yaesr back I had a weird spot on my leg. I went to the dermatologist and the nurse showed me into the little room. As she left she picked up a booklet and handed it to me and said, "You should read this." The title of the booklet was SKIN CANCER and YOU. Fuck! So I leafed through it while waiting for the doctor all the time thinking "Fuck!" The doctor walked in, looked at my leg, looked at the booklet and said, "Why are you reading that?" I explained the nurse had given it to me. He said, "You don't have skin cancer. You have psoriasis." But for ten minutes I thought I had skin cancer. That was a long ten minutes.

Glad to hear you are fine.
I hope your implants are not the "hub cap" looking type.

Come on up and bring scotch. I am not afraid anymore of having a wee snort on occasion. I do enjoy the scotch but now I have grown to like the feeling of going to bed stone cold sober at night. I have now lost 27.5 lbs., 12.5 kg. I'm starting to look like Jon Eisenberg. I have another burgee here at the house you can sign if you don't get that one. Two more weeks of crabbing season.

Thought so, the bloke I won Geelong with. Great days, and before the Cone. The Cone came from those days. We were wild, and not just a little bit. A lot.

Awesome to hear of the weight and the snort or two.

Burgee is back in the air tomorrow!

I don't see breast implants. Are you hunching over a bit?

James is every bit the gentleman when he is here. He brings flowers for my wife and a bottle or two. But I get the impression that not long ago he could have been a terror. I'll prod himk into telling me some stiries when he is next here. He seems to always have a lady on hand. He has been renting my son's mother in law apartment behind the house and Max says James seems to do just fine in that department.

Thanks Bob,

OK.. maybe we should go for quality not quantity. I probably won't be back for another 10 weeks or so. Still renovating cottage with my snailpace skills. Justin and I won a sportboat nationals in 2003. (Hi Justin!) I can't wait to get back to Seattle and take up where I left off. ....and to sign Spike's burgee.

It sat on my kitchen counter for a weekend too. Austin1972 sent it to me on a Friday, and I shipped it to Bitches' on Monday.

It was sobering to read all of the signatures, and it felt good to know how many more would be there, before it gets back to Bob and Jill.

btw ... I know one other CAer who'll want to sign the thing (briartrtpd) .... Hopefully going to catch up just after New Year so that is doable ....

Ad,

Thanks for the phone call and emails. Hey, if you slackers hung onto the thing for so long I reckon we might just take the Spike B sailing on Sydney Harbour before forwarding on.

Cheers

A

whoa ... all this talk of silicon tits and vegemite is both disturbing and arousing ....

An eggselent idea Womby, no world trip should be without it. And you have the vessel to do it right! Not touching your vegimite/breast fixation.

So its coming to Tassie after Womby.
I'm at Kettering, so anyone who wants to sign it down here please pm me.
Any idea who gets it next?
Has it been to NZ yet?

No, I'm thinking its our brothers across the ditch next Ole. Can someone chip in with a destination address to Ole via PM?

Messaged KimB ...

Which bit concerns you Paps .... the vegemite or the silicon tits ? Honey is just so passe .... :P Tequila could be fun ...

Spike really didn't drink. He was an amazing bartender though and he loved making rum drinks. He just never finished one.
I bought a bottle of rum yesterday. I'm not going to drink it. Not now anyway.

So, after Ole if there are no mainlanders that need to sign, it should go to our cousins in the small offshore state!

Dutchy can you send Ole your details?

After that if I'm following this correctly it needs to go to the "loser". CL, can you please send your details to Floating Dutchman?

That is if there are no volunteers to take it to Hobart!! Which would be kinda nice.

It is very gratifying to see that the Spike Burgee has legs and is being flown on the other side of the world. Great to see more folks interested in signing it, before it finds it''s way back home

A big kudos to WHL for getting the ball rolling and organizing the mailing of it. Nice to ensure it got forwarded to the right folks, and is kept moving on a reasonable time frame. I am looking forward to it arriving back in the PNW so we can see all the signatures from around the globe.

If time could be found for it to make its way to the Middle East before returning, Mrs Leka and I would be proud to sign and sprinkle some desert sand on it.
I could use a good hand on the boat for a race and I'm sure Spike would help our crew work for a sail in Doha Harbor.

Maybe the Anarchists in Dubai would like an opportunity as well.

Not sure if there is a strict timeline on it to return to the PNW, but would be honoured if it came across this way.

Paps,
With the original circulation list, it was feasible to get it back to Bob and Jill by Christmas but given it's present position, I think the voyage should perhaps be the emphasis.
Thanks for your help in the routing down under.

PS: a Spike Burgee has now done the Marion-Bermuda Race (and back again), been flown during the R Boat match races in the Pacific NW, flown during some local regattas in the PNW and now doing the S2H !!!

TO ALL ADDITIONAL RECIPIENTS OF THE "SPIKE" BURGEE:

As there are more people wanting to add their signatures in memory of Spike, I would like to get a new list organized that can be circulated with the burgee. In the same manner as the first list was organized, it included guidelines on using ball point pens to sign it so that ink wouldn't bleed through the material. In addition, it requested that people email me when they receive it and when they pass it on.

Please can everyone interested in signing it from here on, PM me with their name, address, phone numbers, and email addresses so that I can get a new route list set up. Once I have it, I will email a PDF file to all the additional recipients.

Many thanks.
Tim.

Don't hurry the burgee on our account. Once it gets here it will sit unlooked at for a while anyway. Too many condolences at one time can be a bit of a downer. In time I will put the two of them up in the office, maybe in Spike's bedroom. For now it's good knowing that one is out there, traveling the world, hopefully doing what it says on Jill's license plate frame, "Put a little Spike in your life".
