Who can figure the TAX Value it would rate bassed on being a 2012 / 2013 65' Kat ???
I'm Sure the TAX Man would not slight Hot Rod for the Integrity of the Vessel or lack there of
$300,000 ???
He'll have to get a Survey to Challenge the value the State sets
Who would Survey such a craft ??

Don't forget he's heading to one of the many "thousands of islands" in the south pacific once the boat is in...The tax man ain't catchin no Hotrod catamaran...so when do the SA'er and TAX Man come along to get their share of "What" value

Will this thing actually float if he drops it in? ...I mean, I know it's made out of wood and all, but???
After looking at his build pictures; I can say with confidence yes it will float.
It will most likely break apart and the parts being made of wood will float for some time.
It will also rot. Non pressure treated board will soak up salt water like a sponge. He can look forward to building it again next year.

It will be intersting to see if he can move the cat to the launch area without damaging it structurally.
I think we should start a pool on how far he gets it from the build site before it suffers meaninful damage. Put me down for < 2 boat lengths.

Global warming: Sea level rising faster than expected
Posted on November 5, 2012 by Bob Berwyn
Climate feedback loops at play in accelerated rate

This map by Emanuel Soeding, of Christian-Albrechts University, uses NOAA data to show possible impacts of sea level rise to the U.S. Coast.
FRISCO — Sea level rise is one of the most obvious signs of global warming, but climate scientists have been trying to figure out why the oceans are expanding faster than most models predict. The 2007 IPCC report forecast global sea level to rise between0.2 and 0.5 meters by the end of the century, but with the rate accelerating, that could increase to as much as 1 meter.
Sea levels are rising faster than expected from global warming, and University of Colorado geologist Bill Hay has a good idea why. The last official IPCC report in 2007 projected a global sea level rise between 0.2 and 0.5 meters by the year 2100. But current sea-level rise measurements meet or exceed the high end of that range and suggest a rise of one meter or more by the end of the century.
“What’s missing from the models used to forecast sea-level rise are critical feedbacks that speed everything up,” said University of Colorado geologist Bill Hay, explaining that the models may not be accurately accounting for feedbacks from Arctic sea ice, the Greenland ice cap, and even soil moisture and groundwater mining.

Freshwater is the problem. Saltwater pickles the wood and inhibits rot. Some wooden boats are built with a "salt shelf" the length of the hull under the shear clamp. When the deck leaks in the rain (or snow), the water passes over and through rock salt on the shelf and turns fresh water to salt, preserving the bilge and other areas where water collects.

On Google Maps Locate: Leith Lane & Loch Lomand Dr. San Rafael, CA
Then zoom once and I think you'll see the beast
Right next to the street name "Leith Lane".
The boat ramp is to the west and south of his location on the empty lot. Looks like he might squeeze onto the ramp. Best chance would to put about a hundred skate boards under it and ease it on in..

I haven't gone through this thread, but would presume that the structural ribs etc. are probably there for show, not for go. By putting stays for the masts out to the corners of the hulls, when that thing starts flexing in seas, the tension on the wires will cause the mast to break through compression. I'd love to see that thing out in 20" seas with a good helicopter and a better video cam to catch it on.

Right.
Whats an offcut?

Naw. No doubt he has been "consulting with" (read: watching) the local Oracle boys testing their cat. He understands a little "flex" in the platform is not a problem and can in fact be good. He's not worried.
Don't forget, he has studied lots of designs (looked at boats in marinas). Therefore he is now a master designer.

Shuffleboard on the aft deck? You'd want something nearby that floats, just in case. A liferaft, for instance, but it would probably be useless when the beast breaks up in the parking lot.

It was in the harbor at Pier 39 last time I saw it. But an odd piece of cockpit gossip was that Tiger Woods purchased it. There may have been drinking involved with the initial information transfer, so fact checking is in order. Pat
