Thank you soak Ed. Although I have no memory of lesbian robot nor of being a lesbian robot, nor of being a lesbian, nor of being a robot, I can still appreciate the comment infinitely more than being accused of being a meth head or worse for the millionth time by those who would accuse rather than attempt to try to defend their own indefensibly bullheaded endlessly abusive commentary.

I assure you, to be mentioned in the same breath as the fabled LR is high praise indeed in these parts. Although I can understand how Reid's narcissism can piss people off I cannot understand how it has risen to the levels it has here except that RD et al apparently lead impoverished lives of quiet desperation in spite of their repeated protestations and their constant bleating that Reid "made them do it!" Besides, I said he was approaching, not there. I mean on the Mohs scale of hardness, diamond is 10 and corundum (rubies, sapphires) are 9 yet a diamond is 4-5 times harder than a ruby or sapphire. I was just giving 'Poon something to strive for.

Supanam

There is one fisherman we know of in Supanam who specializes in catching humungous catfish. Catfish several feet long! Anyone who has caught catfish in the US will tell you this is huge. The fisherman dropped by one morning to show us. He uses a very big hook tied to three eighth inch line and tells us proudly that he pulled it in by himself. He reminds me of Earnest Hemmingway's Old Man and the Sea except he manages to get his monster onboard and bring his catch to the market. We hear that the fish is chopped up and soon all of it is sold. We have eaten a little bit of fresh fish here, but mostly we eat salt fish. It is very cheap and personally, I like it more than most fresh fish, especially as a daily course.

Mar. 12, 2012 Supanam

Alex and Rachel have now left the schooner to go on their own adventure. They worked hard on the schooner and we couldn't have gotten away before winter without them. Now our little family is left to survive where the natives tell us only one boat with a mast has been here before. There are many hardships and dangers here but we still think it is a beautiful place and the right place for us as we work hard to repair the boat. Soanya has relatives that live just down the road along the coast of the Essequibo river and I, more than her, marvel that this is her roots. The Essequibo river is by far the largest river in Guyana. The shallow mouth of the river is wide and hundreds of islands dip their jungle trees into the muddy waters. The smaller Supanam river that we are on has much darker and more clear water. The locals drink this water, but we stick strictly to the rain water that we fill our tanks with. The bamboo leans way over the water and whispers to us but the leaves don't touch us. So how do the frogs, tarantulas and other creepy crawlies get onboard? Darshen loves it here and is on a very busy schedule. I row him ashore and ride him on a borrowed bike to school. We dodge cars and goats as we say good morning many times. DArshen comes home at noon for lunch and quiet time. Then he is off to play with the neighbor's children and other kids around the village. On the schooner, Soanya and I work with young men to get the boat in shape. For the last weeks, the Anne has been leaning over to port so we could make fiberglass repairs along the waterline on the starboard side. We have hardly begun grinding the bow where layers of paint and fiberglass were worn down by the years of waves we cut through. We are busy getting rid of rust everywhere while we also sand our woodwork for varnishing and begin to bring the schooner to brighter more dressed up times. The tropical hardwoods are calling me more intensely and I see praying gods and goddesses starting to emerge. It will take a brave and well planned leap to escape back to the open seas and are open to communicating with anyone who wants to come with us on the adventure of a lifetime. We still need lots of financial help to repair the schooner and look forward to communicating with everyone who will help us. We hope to post our updates more regularly but reception here in the jungle has proven to be intermittent. In the photos, Soanya stands in a green halo while Darshen explores the jungle with his Daddy carefully guarding him.

I remain at my computer in a state of utter and complete disbelief at your attempt to group me together with those that are obviously Hovians of the purest genetic strain.

Although I, in the distant past, may have thought of Capt. Stowe as an enterprising, somewhat determined and mildly interesting individual his true skills became woefully evident when he entered a military exercise area at the onset of HIS "Mars/Love Voyage". This to me was inexcusable.

My commentary has been insightful, (will he head N in hurricane season with only family aboard and no rudder) direct, (pipsqueak was mysterious first wife Anne) and inquisitive, (what became of squawk) and in no way has lent itself to Bongholio being labeled as Hovian.

Capt. Stowe has managed to put his family, crew, vessel and whatever reputation he had at risk by embarking upon a voyage on a vessel that any competent mariner would consider a future artificial reef.

As you well know Mr. Albatros, Capt. Stowe now finds himself in what, I believe, will become his greatest challenge. Can HE paypal his way out of HIS predicament? Will Soanya get straight and bail for the benefit of herself and child? Will the CORE Hovians dig deep, find a mark/benefactor to restore the historic vessel ANNE(pipsqueak)? Will Mr. Regatta Dog be the future curator of all things Stowe?

These questions are just a very small example of what has made this ongoing saga so interesting. To be labeled as Hovian after all these years is difficult.

We have hardly begun grinding the bow where layers of paint and fiberglass were worn down by the years of waves we cut through.

Erm, has Reid somehow been sailing through a different, far more abrasive, sea than the rest of us get to sail on? I've seen abrasion damage at the bows of boats, but only when they've been playing with river ice, and even then the ice has to get fairly thick (a couple of inches or more). What's the betting that his main problem is rusty metal causing the fer-a-lyte to spall off (in a similar way to concrete cancer affecting buildings)?

I'm also wondering how he's actually going to make effective repairs, as if he's just using the same techniques her used to build her he's going to discover that polyester resin does not bond chemically with cured polyester resin, so anything he slaps on is likely to crack off again sooner rather than later.

I have been sailing since the '60s and used to do quite a bit of offshore and one design racing. Taught sailing while in college. Did a bunch of deliveries in my 20s. I ran a family owned rigging shop and chandlery in the '70s. Later I was a representative for several marine equipment manufactures all of who you would know. Then I became sales manager for an autopilot and instrumentation company, after that on to a maritime safety company, again you would know both of them.

Later I want to work for a (gasp) company that makes power boat equipment. You see I have to make money to pay my way in life.

I taught my daughters to sail, and participated in Special Olympics sailing with one of them.

These days I am not sailing much at all. I have many commitments that I need to take care of so that I may return to it.

Eventually took to racing and raced locally on boat's in the 20-30 ft range. Began cruising on friend's boats and put about 20,000 offshore n.m under various hulls. Worked my way to watch captain. Did paid deliveries with inexperienced owners. Raced and cruised Bermuda, East Coast to Caribbean, Florida to Mexico, up and down the coast north to south, local round the buoy mid week stuff and various weekend regattas. Boats I've raced on as crew collectively have won enough pickle dishes to fill a large room. Did some sailing in the Pacific, one rounding of Cape Horn, and I don't appreciate being referred to as Tampoon Tabass.

I mentioned the 510 and Jimmy brought up a very good point about getting a free and clear title after he called his cousin Tom. As you know, Jimmy's cousin Tom is a lawyer down in Ellsworth. He advised not doing any business with Zeke until he can either sign the paperwork himself or has someone with power of attorney. Tom told Jimmy that power of attorney might be an issue as well, because Zeke has to sign that over too. I suggested they go on the internet and figure out how that famous physics guy in a wheel chair pays his cable bill. Tom's looking into it, but don't tell Zeke. We all know how proud he is.

I know it has been 20+ years 4th of July cookout at Zekes, but I'm thinking we should have it my house this year. I don't have a horseshoe pit, and that might make Zeke feel a bit more comfortable. Donna will bring some straws and a counter stool to put next to Zeke's lawn chair.

You're that Australian, feller, using Google Maps street view to "drive past" Tom's barn? You definitely aren't from here. If you were, you'd know that the nearest Guyanese village must be at least 500 miles from here, and we don't pluck chickens with our teeth. Actually since the day Zeke won the title of grand supreme apple bob champion, he's become pretty good at plucking chickens out of a boiling cauldron with his teeth. In fact, his wife (your sister) shares your bucktooth hilbilly genes of being able to eat an apple through a picket fence (or a cell wall). Comes in pretty handy at visiting times, or when the still breaks down huh ?

Just as long as the battery hen carcases you drop down the well dont pollute the groundwater too much... Hell, then we'd be getting visits from the clean water self proclaimed media guy (no not the dead one- the almost mentally dead one.. Tampoon).

Where were we again ? The merits of used drills over other brilliant harvesting machines designed by my ancestors, such as the Ripleys Stripper. Yep, seriously, google it.

Speaking of farming... this probably goes here.

It's the US' first house to be made from hemp, the fiber that's harvested from cannabis plants. ...

Mixing hemp with lime and water to create "hemcrete," the house was built by eco-friendly construction company Push Design, after successful builds in other corners of the world. In the US, however, the supply isn't that great as it's illegal to produce it, so the cost of importing hemp from Europe makes the whole project much more expensive.

This particular house was built using hemp from the UK...

Yesterdays news. Boat originally built from hemp proceeds, now being repaired with child labour. Reid all about it.

Yes we missed the coffee 'cause Clara's feet were acting up something fierce. We tried the vinegar, but all it did was stink up the place. Clara's sister Mert suggested soaking her feet in boiled kerosene, so we will try that later.

Actually Zeke seems to be adjusting well to his new hooks. But yesterday he tried to wipe his eye after some dust got in it, well long story short, don't say anything about the eye patch when you see him. Oh yes, his cows get pretty skittish come milking time.

I'll write more later, but right now gotta put that kerosene on the stove to boil for Clara's feet.
