YOU ARE ALL ENTHRALLED WITH STOWE!

Considerably more enthralled with the "Starting Another Dart" thread, Sparky. Call me silly, but it appears somebody other than Weed is making a hand made boat. Granted, whacky materials, probably store bought, with the deck clearly lacking that classic 1973 Steinway baby grand soundboard patina most seek in a quality handmade boat. But handmade, presumably incorporating historic lessons learned from Maersk world record holders.

When you get done talking to yourself, please give a shout-out to Andy (via a Telex to Weed, if necessary and local telecom gear allows). Andy's last update was top notch stuff.

So you personally find Tabman to be erotic for you in a homo way? Or possibly specifically his ass, as you're focused on that?

I have to call this "information overshare" on your part.

If you're like that, it's not that there's anything wrong with that, but it's a waste of space on the forum.

But I guess that never stopped you before. In fact, applying that concept would end your very existence.

the boat is unloaded, and miraculously, at the same time money is found to start "repairs", which doesnt focus on the rudder, it focuses on an internal rebuild.
The repairs include building new storage compartments.
Even though this is occurring up a river, miraculously power is found to operate power tools and run lights to do the work at night.
Reid is already preparing his alibi by not personally doing the work.
All the hallmarks of yet another smuggling operation.

As I understand it, the individual with Narcissistic Personality Disorder prefers to supervise rather than actally perform the work.
In this way, if the effort is successful, he/she can take credit for having "supervised".
If a failure occurs, then blame will be shifted to the person/people who actually did the work.

Additionally, the person with narcissistic personality disorder may:

•React to criticism with rage, shame, or humiliation.

•Take advantage of other people to achieve his or her own goals.

•Have excessive feelings of self-importance.

•Exaggerate achievements and talents.

•Be preoccupied with fantasies of success, power, beauty, intelligence, or ideal love.

•Have unreasonable expectations of favorable treatment.

•Need constant attention and admiration.

•Disregard the feelings of others, and have little ability to feel empathy.

•Have obsessive self-interest.

•Pursue mainly selfish goals.

Suspect $$$ were received, probably from the beneficiary of the hardwoods. Stumps and gnarly bits of hardwood are prized by many woodworkers, particularly those who fancy themselves "artists" as they can clean it up, accentuate the grain and unusually shape and command a fortune for as furniture, art , etc. So Weid takes a chisel, wacks the wood a couple of times, crates it and declares it "art", not protected as a pure hardwood import.

Father in law is a woodturner who now has two barns of wood, much of it, I would consider crap. But every month he attends a local woodturners meeting and brings along a couple of these "scraps" that they auction off to benefit the organization. Crazy money.

Just sayin. Would think every waking moment would be spent on the repair of the Schooner. Not art.

Stowe is a celebrity now?. Good God, Poon, you have completely lost it. He is the William Hung of the sailing world, the freak show exhibit in the dark tent at the circus. He is a Kardashian sister on a low budget reality tv series set in Gary, Indiana, the Vanilla Ice of the rap music genre.

Harpon, you are the last person on the planet that should be giving lectures about sanity or journalistic integrity. In 2009, you made the mistake of admitting on here that you were ghostwriting the 1000 days site, and in frustration for not being paid for it, you admitted that you had engaged in a serious lapse of journalistic integrity. (see below). You also admitted being the ghostwriter and self proclaimed media guy on your facebook page. Realising what you had said, you then tried to conceal who you were and what you were doing, by locking your facebook page and by a number of name changes on here, not realising that a name change history is readily viewable.

You are a hypocrite of the first class. Honesty ? you dont know the name of the word. Your history of attempting to trade it for money is well documented.

Your grandstanding is laughable, but your anger and lapses into dark sexual inuendo, reflects a deeper psychosis that seriously needs some help.

Minor word fix: A "lapse" in journalistic integrity would require having had it in the first place.

Speaking of... if NS is considering a change of venue, perhaps she and Harpoon might hit it off. They could be quite the team.

Frankly I think you are in love with the guy, and your envy of his "hedonistic" lifestyle made so you envious it turned your unrequited man love to deep seated hate. Or perhaps not. Sculpture in the Jungle Saturday, 14 April 2012 April 9, 2012 Supanam In the midst of surviving in the jungle, I have been creating tropical hardwood carvings from the local wood that I find. On my first voyage to Brazil in 1973 on my catamaran I made carvings from abandoned canoes. I shipped some of the carvings back home, but the biggest one, a boy riding a dolphin, I carried over the pontoons. When the weather got too rough, I sacrificed it to the Gods of the Sea. That act familiarized me with spirits in the world culture of man that dwell in the artistic creations of man and help us adapt and thrive on the earth as our souls venture into space. It has become a necessity for me to create art objects to aid our survival as we adventure into the unknown. Of course we are busy working on the boat. Now is the time that we must work to save the schooner. She needs and deserves it. After her epic voyage, she is worn out in every way and rebuilding an aging schooner is demanding work. It takes all my time and is a challenge for me after the physical feat of departing the terra firma longer than any man. I thought my time of extreme physicality was over and that I would never sculpt again. But the mystical spirits call me and visions of gods and goddesses appear in all the wood shapes I see and I must answer their call. On a full moon extreme low tide, as we landed our dinghy, we stepped out on an old smooth holey three foot wide black plank. Four of us pulled it up and sawed it up into four foot pieces as we hauled it up on the river bank. The first statement I made was cutting a big circle out of the plank. Much to my surprise, I found it was purple heart wood! I have had a love relationship with purple heart wood since 1971 when the solo sailor, Klaus, showed me the purple heart wood from Guyana in the interior of the little cutter he built on the beach in Bequia. When I sailed to Bequia a few years later, I began carving in purple heart. Now we see the jungle through a polished circle and are taken around the world to zen-like spaces. A praying goddess subtly appears in what looks like flames coming out of the circle. I have several more pieces in progress, both on the shore and on the schooner. The tall slender form of a mystical creature emerges from a piece of heavy mora wood. Can you imagine that I actually hear and sea in my mind’s eye the jungle around me thank me for carving its wood and lifting its presence above domestic and commercial uses towards eternal callings. This is part of what compels me to create even when the realities of life and the huge job of rebuilding the schooner overwhelm me.Posted ImagePosted Image

Though, he may sound a bit odd, the sculptures shown here actually look pretty good. The guy's different alright. I like him. A modern day artist/sailor/adventurer/explorer we need more of them and less strictly fast as you can go racing sailors in plastic production round the buoys with the boys boats. Variety is what makes life interesting, ain't it you Stowe obsessed hell thread hangers?

Nothing wrong with sailing and exploring, Poon. Expecting other people to fund it is another thing entirely, especially when you don't follow through on your promises. Grandiose proclamations about all the wonderful things you are doing for humanity are even worse.

Face it rd, this group is obsessed with Stowe, and you are the chief obsessor.. Frankly I think you are in love with the guy, and your envy of his "hedonistic" lifestyle made so you envious it turned your unrequited man love to deep seated hate. Or perhaps not. Maybe ur simply an egotistical jerk, with a self serving unwarranted sht causing mean streak sticking your dullard's wet nose into everybody buttocks you can, sniffing all around town, just cause you like to keep those flaring wide nostrils a sickly smelling brown.

I just drop in on occasion to see if there's anything worth Photoshopping or making a sarcastic comment about. SA could have a thread about "Mothballs in Grandma's Closet Faster Than the Moths" and the same creative fucks would congregate on that thread.

You take all this shit way too seriously.

Lighten up and get over it.

Edit -

you can bet that he didnt ask anyone first before he helped himself to the "äbandoned canoes" or the jetty steps of this latest fiasco. More power tool use without electricity huh.
Hell, I put a whole tree through a mulcher this morning, but Im sure the world doesnt want to know about that. The difference is, it was my tree, my mulcher and my electricity.
I didnt nick it.

So why on earth does he think the world would gape in wonder, at what can be done in 5 minutes with scrap wood full of termites/ borers, a jigsaw and a drill mounted wire brush ?

ho hum. Go ahead and put a spin on it Harpon, for gods sake. You know you want to... Its as boring as hell like it is...

This is the latest from the Cheesemonauts:

Saturday, 14 April 2012
April 9, 2012
Supanam

In the midst of surviving in the jungle, I have been creating tropical hardwood carvings from the local wood that I find.

This is part of what compels me to create even when the realities of life and the huge job of rebuilding the schooner overwhelm me.

Why would he return to Long Island City?? Jesus and Mohammed put valuable pieces of hardwood at his fee, Darshen is away during the day being socialized, he has many helpers to restore the boat, gather the gift woods from the heavenly mystical forests and Soanya's burden is "housekeeping on the boat and communication".

Stowe's sculpture is a temporary escape from the enormous job of rebuilding the Anne. The amazing part is that he's doing it on a limited budget and scarce resources. Never underestimate Stowe, he has an uncanny ability to get where he wants to go!

Looks like the Teredo worms have done a fair bit more carving on that piece of wood than Reid has. Personally, I don't rate his art - his technique is amateurish, and his rationale is gibberish. His art is a bit like a cargo-cult, he goes through the motions without knowing what it is he's doing, except perhaps attempting to make a fast buck off people with more money and less sense than he has (OTOH, quite a lot of artists do this).

I'm more interested in the piece of wood he found - a 3' wide plank of anything is highly unlikely to be recent, it has marks that indicate that it used to have some sort of ironwork attached to it (possibly hinges or banding of some sort), and the teredo indicates that it's spent some time in salt water, but probably not for at least a few years. It may have had some sort of archaeological significance, but as he's taken it out of it's context and sawn it up to play at sculpture, the world will never know.

It is truly amazing that this group can take the most innocent act of picking up an old piece of driftwood and turn it into an archeological crime committed by Stowe. YCMTSU!

In my view the sculpture is a decent piece of work, better than most I've seen of this type. I like the relationship of the circle to the rest of the piece.

Our opinions of Reid's art will have to differ.

I admit it's not the greatest of archaeological treasures, but there was definitely information to be gained by knowing about what it was and where it was, and that information has now been lost. As I don't rate Reid's art work, I regard that information as being of significantly greater value to humanity (I've also been conditioned from three years at university sharing houses with archaeology students, who can get a bit worked up about stuff like that).

That being the case, it will undoubtedly burst your racist bubble to know whites such as yourself easily account for the majority of crackheads, dumbfuck.

My comment referred to Weed's operation, as indicated by "Telex to Weed". Weidiculous, I understand, as Weed's texting capabilities probably aren't that advanced yet.

Granted, Weed does cut a pretty decent circle in purpleheart with a jig saw, assuming that isn't a snapshot of an art project Darsh completed at day care.

Too busy working to cover my nut. So busy, in fact, that I have time to devote to art. I spend 14 hours a day watching other people work on my boat while I run a circle with a jigsaw and fuck up nature's own work.

Some people, on this thread, spend too much energy wording their responses...

get a life...

It is not only welcome in this day and age to see the written word done well, but also amusing.

Piss off.

You're the fucking whitest guy I've ever heard of.
Idiot.

Hey Harpoon,
Do me a favour, jump over to the Aground at the Farrallones thread for me? Have a read for a moment.
I hope you realise how trivial the above all sounds? Really, find another purpose mate.

It's even more annoying to see the thread back on page one, wonder if anything of consequence had occurred to make it so, and to see the inconsequential idiocy which passes for conversation and posts here. Two or three people saying ugh to each other can put a thread on the front page evidently. Let this pos be properly buried in the back pages. It- like the South, is not worthy of rising again.

Mission accomplished.

Huh... I actually like it. Though whether it's Reid's doing, or the wood had all the key features in the first place and just required some smoothing which any monkey could do, I don't know.

Looks like he let "lesser creatures" from the jungle do all of the work. He just put a big hole in it. Just like with the boat.

Seriously, are there any black guys on SA? Or is it still predominately & unfortunately so lily white, sadly not unlike sailing itself, that a white supremacist nazi worshipping Jew hatin cretin like bullshit gator feels proud to be a member in good standing here and can get quoted in more mainstream press about ocean racing in his ignorant curse laden bullshit as a worthy rep of the sport---as recently occurred?

It is a fucking shame what this place has unleashed. Someone should put in back in the box.

Dumbass, everyone knows black people can't swim.

Just knowing that that simple act caused your reaction made my day. Thanks Poon. Btw, I've been sailing twice in the last week, and will be out again tomorrow. Not quite mystical and a bit chilly, but I'd rather sail than talk about it any day. You?. Done much sailing lately?.

Another update from the Cheesemonauts: (note this update is unique for its absence of dragon hats, mystical this-and-that and the usual nonsense. It almost makes them sound like a normal family doing normal things.... except the bit about doing the work of titans while someone else is fixing the boat and serving the meals)

Every morning of the week, Darshen and daddy row across the river and walk through Nato’s boatyard. DArshen has his own paddle custom made with his name on it. He proudly helps to paddle ashore. We were inspired by the local Native Americans who paddle their families under colorful sun umbrellas. Even the smallest girls help paddle surprisingly efficiently like their parents. We’ve seen only one canoe on the Supanam river. Most of the river boats are made from chain-sawed planks, but the motor boats used to ferry people are quite finely made with bows that swoop way up.

Work boats carry sawed planks down the river. Barges of logs float down the river using cross-trees as pontoon arms to keep the heavier than water logs from sinking. A five foot long snake swims briskly againstthe strong current next to the schooner lifting his head right out of the water to try to find his way onboard. There is an eight foot tide that would normally make getting onshore a muddy affair, but split and warped planks spill out of Nato’s boatyard and gives us a sort of ramp we can walk on. This is where many village ladies sit waist and chest deep doing their laundry in big brightly colored buckets while their children play and splash around them. This is the colorful jungle river we cross many times a day.

When Darshen and I get on land, we borrow Nato’s bicycle and head off to nursery school. Everybody says “Good Morning” so we say “Good Morning” twenty times on the way to school. It surprises me how many kids call out “Darshen” when they see us. He is a well known boy in town and is oftern called “Ocean” because he came in on a boat from the ocean.

We are the only people who live on a boat here. In fact, we haven’t seen any signs of anyone else living on a boat since we got to Guyana. It is not easy, but we love living on the water and that makes us unique.

I feel that I do the work of titans and I tire as lunch arrives. I row my young crew of workers ashore, jump out, hop on the bicycle, and ride off to pick up Darshen from school. He will be four in July and we see him experiencing the things of life for the first time. This evening, we went up the steps of his friend Raj’s house and found him watching cartoons. I wasn’t there to hear, but he was going to ask Raj to come out and run with him. Within minutes they and other village kids were running in circles chasing each other and letting out high pitched squeals of joy.

I interrupted the fun to get Darshen home before dark. He insisted I carry him because there were too many hopping toad frogs. I put his life jacket on and rowed him home to Mommy for a big dinner in the cockpit and a bucket bath from the river before bed.

Well, compared to drifting for 3 years doing absolutely nothing, including from the looks and results of it absolutely no boat maintenance, he probably does feel he is working like a titan now.

I mean, what he describes above could tucker a fellow plumb out.

after a 4 year reprieve, welcome to the world of childrearing where even idle unemployable grifter narcissists have to HTFU and grow up. Another 12 months and Darshen will be old enough to be exploited fully as child labour, without the need to go to school, just like the other kids who dont go anymore, now that Reid has lured them away from their books. The community (especially the teacher) must really appreciate having a boat demolition site exploiting and corrupting child labour, polluting and blocking their river, right on their doorstep. Still waiting for an explanation of where the mystical funds have come from....

You really give Reid too much "credit" and "power" over your world timbo and doggie et al. When he remains with Soanya raising Darshen in his unique lifestyle, sharing with him the very different life they've chosen, travelling the watery world while living aboard the man's large and unique schooner, your only assessment of his responsible commitment to child raising and continuing to keep his schooner seaworthy, is to proclaim him a sort of evil pied piper, destroying the innocence of children, raping the land, and acting in ways which appear to be products of over eager imaginations by some sickly obsessed deliberately distorted and manipulative minds on here. You have taken your critcism of Stowe to new levels of psycho dreaming.

Makes me wonder if any of you guys have ever explored anywhere on a boat with a family where few others have gone. Doubtful.

Back to weekend regattas, attempting to beat out all the other guys, drinking beer on the manicured lawns, and enjoying a life of privilege without compassion nor concern just condemnation for any who may have less, having chosen a distinctly different path.

Definition of BIGOT
: a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance

That definition perfectly fits the core attitude of this site towards Stowe, his family, acquaintances and friends, although in reality it would seem a more mild criticism than is warranted.

That's the best log entry I've read in years. If I ignore the self aggrandizing "work of titans" thing, I can see a proud and loving father. It is refreshing to see him focus on his son. Perhaps he's realizing that his true legacy lies not in the Guiness Book of World Records, but in spending quality time with Darshen and raising a descent kid.

Good on Reid.

Good on you for recognizing that RD.

Good on him for recognizing that Weid is doing what he's supposed to do, the very same thing hundreds of million people on this little globe are doing on a daily basis without neeeding any formal acknowledgement... or paypal buttons.
What comes as a bit sicko to me is not the report in itself, but the impression (also further developed by their PR director 'Poon) that the idea of "uniquely raising this kid in a unique way in a unique environment on a unique piece of floating crap" seems to become yet another unique selling proposal to lure people in the direction of the paypal button.

unique is the new mystique

Yup, great post.

See Hovians, if you haven't figured it out by now, we're not all about speed crazed million dollar sailing pursuits. Splashing around in a little dinghy with your son builds precious bonds and memories.

OK, I'm even a little jealous. Neither my son nor daughter took to the waves. They decided to pursue and I fully supported other interests.

Have a 4 year old grandson about to learn the ropes. He's been out in a canoe but there is nothing like a simple little rowing pram on a light tether to develop the imagination and self sufficiency.

It is funny, I have as much fun cruising as I do racing, just different experiences. I don't do it nearly as much because of time constraints. The great thing about sailing is that there are so many different options. I have friends that worked hard for years and are taking a few years off for extended cruising. More power to them, they are having the time of their lives. What they are not doing is expecting other people to fund their experience and life style, or claiming that what they are doing is intended to benefit any one other than themselves.

Funny how the rats flee the sinking ship of abuse en masse, making wee lil rat noses trying to say, we never did it, we never went overboard in our abusiveness, even as their scurrying rat feet run down the anchor chains and jump into the mud that still sticks to them like it sticks to Stowe.

Stowe's fundraising is not all that unlike well known racing sailors who spend a great deal of time fund raising from individuals and corporations to be able to engage in their life dreams of competing/ campaigning in single handing circumnavigating races in a proper boat. His tendency for ridiculous hyperbole and self serving fact stretching has brought some of condemnation upon his head, as well as the unique strangeness of a home built slow Schooner and an unerring mind set of being an historic sailing figure, although the abuse heaped upon him by this crazed crowd defies its own hashish hazed imaginative powers.

Document one post in this thread or the previous one where I was abusive towards Stowe. Document one post where I criticized Soanya for anything other than being a neophyte when people claimed she was an accomplished sailor, or was abusive towatds her or Darshen. Your shrill assertions at least where I am concerned are just plain false, and you are far more abusive than anyone else here.

Racing programs have sponsors, usually corporate ones. Their purpose and stated goals are clear. People have a very clear idea what they are funding, and a clear choice whether or not to contribute. They are not, for instance claiming to be working with NASA, conducting scientific experiments and research, holding teaching sessions for kids. None of which Stowe actually did. That is not abuse, Poon. That is fact. Dispute it. Please dispute it. No deflection, no spin, no rationalization - prove me wrong. Provide links to published and accredited research from the Driftathon. Post any proof from NASA of research delivered. You can't. Perhaps the notion that others don't view drifting around for hundreds of days as a major sailing achievement is something you can't understand. Whatever.

If Stowe wants to drift around spewing psuedo spiritual proclamations on the Love Boat, more power to him. If people choose to fund that knowing clearly what they are paying for, that is their choice. But stop pretending that Stowe is doing anything for anyone other than himself,.and stop the atitude that he is somehow entitled to have other people fund the lifestyle he chose, or complaining that he is disadvantaged. He is fully capable of working for a living.

Life is all about choices, and consequences. You make the first, you deal with the second.

No less a sailing rag than Cruising World, referred to as the NY Times of sailing publications, put Stowe in as one of the notable sailors of I believe the last forty or so years. Although you may wish your denial to be true, it appears far more likely Stowe will get his wish not you. And despite absurd depictions of someone virtually single handing a seventy foot schooner for three full years non- stop, as a lazy drifting pole sitting grifter on this site and advanced unmercifully by its adherents wherever they could, it remains Stowe's singleminded commitment to sailing his dreams and the immeasurably hard work and suffering it has taken, that will indeed put his person into the annals of sailing history, however nauseating a thought you here as a group might well believe that to be.

it remains Stowe's singleminded commitment to sailing his dreams, on the dime of others, and the immeasurably hard work and suffering it has taken, that will indeed put his person into the annals of sailing famous con artists in history, however nauseating a thought you here as a group might well believe that to be.

fixed. I use the term "artists" very loosely

No less a sailing rag than Cruising World, referred to as the NY Times of sailing publications,

Referred to by whom? You? Themselves?

A couple of compliments on ONE of Stowes's posts ans suddenly the bands play , fireworks fill the sky and we should elevate Stowe to one of the greatest sailors of the last 50 years. Not gonna happen. Drifting, sails down, for months at a time still does not constitute ocean voyaging.

Nice try Poon.

That would be the same Cruising World edited by Charlie DoaNe?. Thought so.

Doane edits Sail Magazine. Your prejudiced ignorance is showing as per usual.
