Rand, do you know their position??

Going SE, even at 3 knots, they should make Bermuda today..

in spite of urgings, unless sinking, medical emergency or crashing ashore, Stowe will not divert for bermuda. he would risk scampering crew and invoke a very expensive pit stop's clearance fees. not going to happen unless the situation is utterly desperate.
come out with it RW. he won't cooperate, or you're just waiting to say i told you so.. what is the fking point?
you are the armchair dick. sailors aren't ambiguous to score publicity. they state their position, course and speed.

AFTER temporarily jumping back into this long running mega-obsessive crack smoking spec ulation thread on all things Reidian, as much as I would love to join the goofy and at times funny comraderie (especially liked Tabman's gonna hit that--- someone should set it to music, a reid Stowe rap) got to tell you, some of you guys are truly & frighteningly nuts. It makes me think that it would be understandable to possibly prefer bilge pumping poop deck shitting sail sewing turn buckle cotter pin inserting mug gluing rudder fixing rice and beans and sprouts eating sailing on a leaky ship than to hang with some of truly crazed wackos right here.

Pip et al I know less than u all for I am not as obsessed. Talked to R Stowe in the flesh a couple of weeks b4 he left. Sent him an email after the rudder break wishing him and the crew well. You poor lost reidites, desperate to know more, looking for a leader to guide you to the ghostly ship Anne off at sea. From the obsessively addicted interest shown here alone, I think this trip and the Guyana refit should they make it there, would be reality tv of a kind that has joisey shore potential for hit making. Some smart entrepreneur type should pay to put good tv cameras on board. Carly Rachel Reid Soanya Darshen Andy and the boys would be riveting tv. Better than watching the fishermen risk life and limb in the Bering Sea. I am telling you, if you never met the guy, Love him or hate him, he'd be compelling on the tube.

"These fake sailors sitting on their asses talking jive shit are frankly talking much too fucking stupid 'n crazy to try to make much sense of any of the crap which passes for truth here. The usual lies, slurs, viciousness and dumshit innuendo. I regret having reappeared if only for the momento. You may all go back to yer usual state of utter confusion, apathy, and dumbshitness which would make forest gump a Rhodes scholar candidate by comparison. It is truly a shame that Tempesta allows this sort of crazed bad mouthing crap to flourish on his erstwhile sailing site. I suppose the 'tude starts from the top dudes. The casualness of the caustic behavior portrayed, beyond a shadow of doubt, has been and continues to be, to the detriment of sailors in general, and reflects poorly upon the sport of sailing itself. It remains an unfortunate study in the abnormal psychology of the anarchic infantile days of the Internet experiment.

Tuba the shillerman is soooo far off the mark, he couldn't find a proper course well enough to beat the fully loaded rudderless schooner Anne around a race course, even if he were racing on a hobiecat on a blustery day.He couldn't find his own dick to beat it off if he had just overdosed on a major swallow of viagra. He couldn't figure out what was coming if you stuck him in a locked cage match wrapped in Israeli flags and blown up photos of bibi netanyahu, with Bullshit Gaytor and AkaGeorgeGoebbels as the tag team opponents."

Just keep telling yourself that.

I am with you RW. The show should be called ' I am a fringe dwelling unemployed no hoper who wants to be a celebrity - get me out of here.'

'Survivor' could work as show title too, but the way things are panning out, that may be a tad optimistic.

'nite Pip. Worrying and stressing will never help you if you are sailing nor in daily life. Action when possible, preparation, calm and considered problem solving. Your being worried bout those aboard the Schooner will not help you nor them. Wish 'em well from afar p'haps, send some good vibes their way if you'd like. Me, I don't think I am being insensitive to say I imagine they will work their way out of this fine mess, and at some point get a good long break in the weather to calmly assess the situation as well. Worry all you want. It does seem funny though, that your expression of real worry and concern for Stowe and his crew is coming from the epicenter of the we hate Reid Stowe and everything he stands for on the planet Earth, the world infamous SA thread.

sleep tight.

It's a simple concept really.
Drama SELLS!

Whether it's careening headlong into the side of a commercial vessel, watching as standing rigging clevis pins wear to the breaking point or a rudder malfunction, it's drama.

Trouble is Reidy... NOBODY IS BUYING.
If RW says he thinks they'll make it through this, I for one can rest assured it isn't as serious an issue as we've been led to believe.

Carry on.

Not a regular poster, but heck, I'll toss my 40,000 - 50,000 off-shore miles into the pot...and, hey, I even sailed in from 500 miles out with a busted rudder once. (Note: Sailed in and not carried on. That is possibly one difference between rational behavior and "Stowemanship". Although, I'm not sure that the bondo-scow could actually sail back home from their current position until the weather system changes to southeasterlies.)

What Stowe has accomplished, without a doubt, is the record for the least distance sailed per day on the water of anyone in recent (or likely ancient) history.

As for your tag line. I've always preferred to go down to the sea in a car and then take the ship from there. Although I guess it would be kind of fun and perhaps even "brave" to take the ship down to the sea. Hell of a squeeze at the toll bridge, though.

Why didn't you sign on for the mission to Guyana delivery to a third world boatyard? How many off shore miles in your ledger, fucknut? By your own logic, if you don't have as many off shore miles as Reid, you have no business commenting .... so shut up.

No shit, RW, your obsession with Reid and this thread is creeeeepy. Read the past couple pages of this thread and do a bit of introspection.

The reality show would be a great idea, RW, but Jersey Shore was first to market with a parody reality show. Maybe a show about how drifting around the world's oceans on a piece of shit will lead to a world full of love and the betterment of humanity would get some ratings?

I know you must miss Reid to the point where it hurts, but anger at others goes against his teachings. Embrace your loss and move on, friend, knowing that through the positive aura of Reid's love-vibes, you'll never be apart when looking at the same moon at night, and that he is always there to give you a magical, mystical reach-around.

EDIT - Thank's Life Buoy for the levity. I love this place.

If you add up all Stowe's offshore nautical miles on one side of the ledger, and then added up all of the offshore nautical miles of the all the SA regular Stowe thread posters on the original thread and this one, I wonder which way the numbers would tip! Do you really think he's about to go down fer the last time cause his terlit's stopped up and his rudder dun busted?

I think Rail Meat did a Bermuda Race once. This is adding up.

On a serious note, Reid had a problem on his last trip where people here actually gave some good advice. I forget what the problem was, but if Reid has serious stearage problems, he should post the specifics on his website. The specifics will end up here and there's no doubt in my mind that the experienced haters here will give him much better advice on how to fix or jury rig than he'd get from his friends in NY.

Just sayin'

This very atmospheric old photo was sent to me by a French couple who took it from their sailboat. In 1974, I was with them on their sailboat on the Amazon River when we were captured by pirates. We were tied up for three nights and two days while the pirates stripped the boat and argued amongst themselves. They let us live and left us tied up on the floor. We untied ourselves and sailed out of the Amazon to Martinique. My little catamaran TANTRA was left anchored alone in the pirate's den.

Everyone is aware of the danger of pirates today. Around ten years ago, the world's most famous sailor, Sir Peter Blake, took over leadership of the Cousteau Society and was murdered by pirates on the Amazon River close to where I was captured many years before. It is dangerous to sail to the wild places of the world, even today.

Four months after my pirate experience at the age of 22, I went back to the Amazon and stole my catamaran out of the pirate's den. I sailed up to Martinique where I rejoined my French sailing friends. That was when they took this photo of me on my catamaran. Imagine sailing to four continents on this 1,400 pound, 27 ft boat navigating with an old brass sextant and having no motor, no electricity, no radio, or life raft. Those were the days! Those years of sailing set the stage for me to conceive of accomplishing the longest sea voyage in history.

Oh yes, as did the story where In the early 90's he was captured by "police"....

One story's source is Reid himself, and the other source consists of mere court transcripts.

Maybe it is bull shit? Remember the author. He tends to exaggerate a just a little bit, and when reality doesn't get him the attention he wants he makes shit up. Hell, even Charlie Doane acknowledged that Reid could not have met Moitessier in person, even though Reid claims he did.

Google - "narcissism" and "delusional" and you'll get 3,000,000 hits.

I had a 3 way with Princess Dianna and Cheryl Tiegs in '96. Elton John held Prince Charles' Yorkie.

The same goes for you, Aloha 27 (EDIT: Thanks for the tutorial!). Your description was actually more helpful, because it described how one could actually keep changing the rudder's angle to the transom, although this would require one or two people to slacken and/or tighten two separate lines. That is why you call it a temporary/emergency fix. Not suitable in gale-force winds, when a quicker response may be required! ;)

You are so full of shit that Reid's head on Anne is a breath of fresh air by comparison, even with the shitloads of puke stinking up the saloon. I used to think that sailors as a group were good. Since I met Stowe, and then had to deal with the likes of him, you, and your yapping yapping minions, my opinions are sadly tainted by the aberrant behavior that passes for anarchy on this accursed site in cyberspace.

Sailing is an activity that involves some assumed risk. Quit your incessantly ill tempered group whining for five years that Stowe's about to die and kill all aboard his ship by his incompetent sailing which has thus far successfully braved more of the world's Capes and whose home built hull has beneath it more nautical sea miles than any of you will do in three lifetimes in all likelihood.

Let us not forget, in the PAST SIX YEARS the Bondo Barge has a DMG of one trip around the marble. Not a lot in the grand scheme of things.

Here's a clue.
IF you happen to hit it big at a casino, it's not because they are thrilled for you that they offer you a high-roller suite for comp. They simply want you to stay in their establishment because they know for certainty that over time... you WILL crap out. And I'm not talking about the poop deck either.

Carry on.

The endless spew of semi-coherent profanity is getting kind of creepy. One wonders at the mind behind it.
Some kind of odd projection maybe about "us" being to blame if this comes to a bad end or maybe the pills ran out early in the month?

RW is about two posts from full meltdown...This is like watching a slow motion train wreck.

is the little boy tied on to the poop deck to poop too?
or do they grant him a bucket.
this is horrible..

No, he just fills his boots. Sonya must be in charge of emptying them. This must also be why the head is jammed with puke. Or maybe it's just sprouts and cheese and it just looks and smells like puke.

So he has 2 days to cover about 110nm, with a favorable breeze. Odds he'll pull this off, particularly given his Galapagos-tortoise-esque pace so far?

110 nm to Guyana? Oh, you mean Bermuda. Can you imagine manoeuvering the sprout ship through the reefs of Bermuda? Hope they get video of that. I can see the bondo barge parked on St. David's Head now. They better get on Bermuda Harbor Radio right now and have someone bring a slab of sidewalk out to them so Reid can swim down and attach it to the rudder stock. Otherwise I think they should skip Bermuda and just keep drifting to Guyana. They'll have to have someone come out beyond the reefs to pick up all of the crew who have figured out Reid and want to get off. When they get to the Caribbean, they are going to blow around in the trades until someone figures out how to steer the cheese scow. At some point they are going to have to pool their resources to see if they can pay for the impending, inevitable helicopter rescue.

i took it to mean that was the distance to get below the low approaching. he needs to slide down south to stay in light winds according to the forecast. (long range so subject to change).

If you add up Stowe's offshore nauticals miles on one side of the ledger, and the added up all of the offshore nautical miles of regular and repeat posters on the original thread and this one, I wonder which way the numbers would tip! Do you really think he's about to go down fer the last time cause his terlit's stopped up and his rudder dun busted?

I, for one, would be more than happy to see the way the results of that "ledger" would tip.
Stowe has more offshore miles than I do, but everyone here combined?
Good luck with that.

Have to concede that in the drifting department he is A#1.

So far with this adventure, it's all "mystic this" and "mystic that".

One online definition of mystic is "someone who believes in the existence of realities beyond human comprehension".

I think Reid's reality is beyond my comprehension.

turnbuckles so new they unwind themselves

I suppose this is my fault because I failed to donate some cotter pins.

I hope that last post was just made up bullshit. If all that is really true then Reid should be banned from ever being near a boat again for subjecting his "crew" to this voyage of the damned.

Their nojob descriptions required that the crew reflect Reids ethics, and be as accommodating to Reids needs as possible, while holding little or no experience in anything. Its as though hes dialled Rent a Clone and been put through to the no-work-experience section of Naive Incorporated (their subsidiary) .....

So, Bermuda lies almost dead ahead for now, unless the wind changes.Your boat has some significant problems and your crew would welcome setting foot on shore, cleaning up and regaining strength after a trying period at sea.

Nevermind. Why subject your documentation to Bermudian scrutiny, you don't have money to effect real repairs or for dockage and most of your crew will scramble from that leaking vomit and feces encrusted "yacht" at the first opportunity. Press on....Void Ho commands our heroic captain. On to the riches and fortune that await in the South American Heart of Darkness.

I'm glad I'm not a parent of one of those young people. I'd be worried sick after reading the updates.

More agreeable weather awaits so soon Weid will be singing his songs of love, blowing his conch for the young ladies (and perhaps young men) and a little steam will yet again escape from the kettle.

Welcome back Regatta Wolf. Once again your input has made this thread more entertaining. Didn't mission control scold you for engaging the SA "haters" during the 1000 day bit? Well, they're not around now (no surprise) so have at it. Fuel the fires.

You know the show they put on for tourists downtown St. George's, dunking a sailor or two in a supposed historic recreation?
Well. If Reid plays his tarot correctly, you could sub the Schooner Anne as a ship which easily looks a few hundred years old, and put the crew to paid daily work as a tableau of historic shipwrecked in Bermuda sailors and their stoweaway wenches. Just need special dispensation from the Guv, a very likeable man. Might even get Reid and crew some pocket money, and some time to work on needed on board tasks, reconnoiter, reassess, and make it to the next landfall under less stress.

some kids really take to it, one can't imagine them on land. i've met content sailing babies too.
i never sailed with children, so i don't have any experience, only speculation.
i would think having their own dedicated space with all their stuff is important to them. at least all the sailing kids i met took up a lot of room and had toys and stuffies, books and their own bunks, sometimes even a whole cabin. i wonder what his sleeping arrangements are with so many people and deck leaks. they don't hot bunk it, they each get their own bunk, they hauled the stove out (maybe to sell the metal) to make room for this folding set up Stowe 'designed' for when he was going to charter in the caribbean. it can be bunks or come apart to make room for cargo.
now that there is no more trash bag mountains of 1000 day food, the place is probably like a ballroom with the 'art work' removed too.
but it is very moldy. Soy has mentioned that many times.

why do you keep acting as though it's a cinch to move into these tropical venues and go to work and earn money?
you enter on a tourist visa. you can't even sell your old anchor to another sailor over the radio.
you are soo out of touch with reality..
and i don't feel like typing right now so i can't be bothered to elaborate other than to ask you again..
where do you get such dumb ideas?
also bermuda does not welcome convicted drug smugglers..ow well..

Can't he drill a hole in it and steer with two lines from the trailing edge?
