It does seem to consume all your free time... I think in order to keep up front and stay off the rocks, you need team members in time zones 12hr different from you... need to set up a watch system and hand off control.

Both times I jumped hot, and then by 6 weks in to it, I was very burned out and quit...

So it starts at 6am PST tomorrow morning. I may start, but cannot do much more tomorrow morning. I will be on as Dixie, and perhaps will have a D2 to try other courses, but not for the beta.

If I recall correctly, I moved boats for MSG and Sol when they couldn't, and vice versa the last time around. Will we see a GoTheCatherine boat this time around?

Team work is certainly key.

I'm guessing the beta is as much for the VORG guys as it is for us. I'm sure they've made tweaks that haven't been tested by the masses.

I made it through the first four legs in 2008 before I stupidly also started a Vendee Globe virtual game and burned out on both. Wound up aground in Antarctica both times.

I'm back again this year and I'm looking forward to doing the race. The boat's name is "wbemus" and I I spent most of my 1000 credits on sails and auto angle/sail. We'll see how it goes!

Ive got the same, been doing 15 knots for 4 hours and havent got any closer to the finish and ranking hasnt changed.
AutoSail doesnt seem to work either, it keeps defaulting to medium spinnaker, no matter the conditions.

There was ention on the FB page that it had gone to UTC time but then someone mentioned that the time quoted in the top bar your the players local tme.

So not sure.

Ok, just worked that one out, as to my last post the answer is both. They are updating at 0600 and 1800 UTC.

The tme on the upper bar of the game is your local time for the update.

I got in 5 hours late. Lost 400 places today while I was out doing the real thing but I've clawed back 120 since I logged back in an hour ago. I've done all the easting I wanted to do in order to deal with this system and now I'm making a rush north along rhumb to try and get as far north as quick as possible. The forecast for 48 hours from now has a nice 200 mile wide wind hole we're going to have to cross and I want to make as much progress across it as possible to get to the new breeze first.

I started 24 hours later and am doing ok...a bit to the west and ahead of TA, which amazes me that the system pushed me along so well. I suppose I should use those free coins and get all the stuff beyond just sails and goodies for my crew. I would like to head east, but can't manage the comparable slowness. Is anyone using more than one boat for the beta?
