My understanding is that Thistle dinghies are still being manufactured. Does anyone know where a new one can be had? ... i have heard that there is a builder in Jacksonville who makes new ones, but I can't seem to locate any such company. Thanks.

Doug Laber in Sunbury Ohio owns Great Midwest Yachts. He's the long standing builder of new Thistles. Last I saw, the builder in Jacksonville bought the Fox Molds and modified them a bit. His boats have (last i knew) not been approved class legal yet. I think the Fox mold boats are fast. Mike Ingham has a Northwest One Design boat which I think was also made from that mold and he wins EVERYTHING. He probably would with a GMW though.

Good luck on the new boat! New Thistles are a FREAKING piece of furniture! BEAUTIFUL boats!

Lots of good newer used boats around unless you want to drop cash for a brand new one.

Doug Laber is the guy.

Not to hijack this thread, but I am looking for a really, really dialed up late-model Thistle on the East Coast. I'd like to find one with unvarnished teak woodwork if possible -- I just think that's a lot easier than varnished mahogany or ash. Must include really superb trailer. Budget $14K. Send me a PM here, or an email to cicliste666@gmail dot com.
