Yeah... Dana would love to go with me. Funny thing is that when I lived there, I was a bartender in Texas City. The guy who owned the club shut it down and became a titty bar manager. He did very well in that business. Not sure what happened to him.

DK, You've got Tookie's. It's a beer, burger and pizza joint right on the corner that is pretty decent. Excellent onion rings comes to mind. There are a bunch of places if you go over the Kemah bridge.

I finished my college days at U of H at Clear Lake. Lived in Bacliff for 3 years. I think the turtle club is still there but looking for the good food that isn't touristy at the kemah park.

outriggers, under the kemah bridge on the canal - excellent spot

for breakfest, go to skippers. over the kemah bridge, second right (same road west marine is on) - about 1 mile down on the right.

classic cafe of course. You'll need to go there after dinner for drinks. 1/2 mile up on nasa 1, on left before the turtle club.

We'll be down racing in the HYC leukemia cup

I'm driving back to Austin but thought I'd say congrats to Dave Ellis, sailwriter, in his Raider for winning Summer Solstice 2012. I was very impressed at how good he is! Mostly a light air event with lumpy water but I had a great time with great people.

I left a little early since I had to get back to Austin but curious how many they got in today.

I'd also like to add kudo's to Sailwriter on a job well done. Thanks for making to trip from Florida to come play with the Texas Centerboarders! The Raider sailors are going to be really psyched up now!.

Congratulations to Kent also! You are doing really well with the Raider and your getting to be a force to be reckoned with :P. I may have to bite the bullet and go canoe! Excellent job to all the TCC'ers for making the event!

See ya'll at the Branch Long distance race on Canyon. How many of us are going to be there Tuesday night? I sure hope we get trapeze breeze so Rojo can stretch her legs! It coukl more then likely be a bob and bake fest

Yes. Dave sure showed us what the Raider II can do. Now if we are all sailing in 50 years I might be able to replicate his performance one day!

And even though the raider looked like fun, I'll stick with my CF toothpick, just wait 'till my AC comes! Spinnaker is the only way to go!

TCC'ers and anybody else who wants to view, here is a link to some pics from the Summer Solstice Regatta on flickr. most of them are from race 2 and 3 of day one(Sat), sorry race 1 I missed and race 4 got distracted at the clubhouse, so there is just a few sprinkled in from 4. Sunday was just too far away to get any.

the photostream itself probably isn't in order, but the Set for 2012 Summer Solstice Re.... should be in order, starting from the race 2 start

Hey Crumps, (or anyone else that might be interested)

Here is the NOR for Lake Conroe this coming weekend http://www.conroeyc....._boat_race.pdf

Back on May 5th they had listed in the results:Rusty Smith

Weta 14

87.2

Rusty wasn't there June 2nd. Is the Weta 14 the same Weta that your sailing? Look at that D-PN number!
<br class="Apple-interchange-newline">
They do 3 races, starting at 10am and we get off the water around noon and everyone sits out on the club patio eating and drinking while the PRO calculates the results. It's a very friendly group.
We will have 3-5 going up there from Clear Lake Saturday so it could be a nice size Portsmouth fleet. They also have a Sunfish fleet. Here is the results from 6/2 (http://www.conroeyc....boats_races.htm)

Let me know if you decide to make the drive Saturday. I've been letting their PRO know how many people are coming that I've talked to, so they can plan.

Howdy Kent, Art and interested participants,
Your going to have some company hombre. I am planning on making it, I believe that Crumpie and DaveK are going to be there too. Not sure about our canoe buddies from Dallas. This one might be a tad tricky if the wind gods don't participate. It is still a little far out for semi decent forecasting. Some things to think about. There will be a good amount ( a fucking bunch) of motor boat traffic and jet ski chop. It is very likely to be hotter then hell and a drift and bob fest.

Is anyone planning on going up early and hanging out at the club Tuesday evening?

I'm guessing this is Mike who sails a Laser. He races in their Open( Portsmouth ) fleet.

I have seen one forecast put it at 12-15(http://www.windfinde...e_conroe_willis ) for Saturday but I believe the 7-10 (http://www.windfinde...e_conroe_willis ) forecast more.

I just watched the news this morning and the little girl said 10-20; not the best source for real data but sure enough to get pumped up about sailing on Saturday! 11-15 knots, as forcast by Windfinder, is 13-18 mph. Perrrrrrrfect for a Laser with and old guy like me...

Mike

You raced your Laser against Rusty Smith on a Weta 14 back in May. Was it a white tri? If he's out again, please find out the hull number. I'm looking for the mysterious owner of hull #370. Point Rusty our way if it's a Weta 4.4.

We had a little rain on Lake Conroe but were able to get all three races off. The winds were light, probably no more than 6-7 knots max but it was fun. 8 Boats in the open fleet with the Raider II's dominating the field.

I would like to say that the racing on Conroe was great but it wasn't. Had to wait almost two hours for any wind to come up. By that time every idiot who owns a boat with a motor was going back and forth at half plane. With light air and a washing machine chop it was almost impossible to sail. We usually try to get started by 10 AM to beat the motor fools and the breeze is usually pretty good in the morning.

On a possative note the folks at CYC where impressed with the sailors that ventured up from the bay and appreciated politeness and sportsmanship. When you all went out the gate there was a comment about how great it was to see sailors actually traveling to one of their regattas. Where else can you get a well run race, bratts fresh off the grill and cold beer for $10? This fall should be a lot of fun up here, better breeze, cooler air and colder beer!

Howdy Y'all,
Just a word of note. For the Branch Long Distance race on Canyon lake Wednesday you have to pre-register on-line. I registered yesterday. We've got five boats signed up so far. They are having the annual LCYC BBQ at 4:00 pm and trophy and awards at 6:00 pm.

I should add that late registration ends at 11PM on July 3rd.

Looks like a fun day is in store. Wind forecast is looking good for this time of year. May only be around 8 knots at the start but increasing to 13 knots by 1PM. Very slight chance of rain or t-storms.

Naw DK, Crumps doesn't want to show off and win two years in a row. I don't think he can hang in the 15-25 that is forecast much less give ya another lesson in Weta sailing!

Branch Distance Race
Well the results are in but not correct. They have no portsmouth # for the sunfish and DaveK so they tied for first with a corrected time of 0. When Larry should be 1st. I guess nobody bothers to take 3 seconds to look at the results to see obvious mistakes.

Correct results should be:
Larry
DaveK
Art
Mike
Sunfish
Kent
Mark

Well Kent,
Bubba, did not show us the results. They hadn't been posted at the club before we left. We didn't get a chance to peruse them. I probably should have asked if he needed any help with the scoring. He had finished the scoring about 5:50. You remember him asking for everyone's rating at the skippers meeting. So he was provided with the ratings for DK and the Sunfish. He did admit to seeing the error's.during the awards presentation and he had the same order of finish that you have shown here.. Cut him a husk... He had one long ass day bobbing on the committee boat. Next event is the Centerboard regatta at AYC!
Hasta amigo,

Bubba apologized to me for not catching the mistake before he announced the results. And then he apologized to all during the presentation. He felt bad because he loves having the TCC race at LCYC almost as much as he loves Mike (which is plainly evident). He'd been on the water setting marks since about 7AM so at his age, I can understand how tired he must have been at the end of the day.

Mike had an amazing race for someone who started some seven minutes late. And I'm still surprised that I managed to catch Dave at the very end after chasing him for some ten miles.

Gerardo (on the fish) showed me examples of the trophies he's going to make. They'll be ceramic tiles with your boat photos on them.

The best part of my day was getting to hang out with you all for so long after the race.

I just looked up Bubba... He has a facebook page and is 85 years old. Amazing how active he is!!!

I had a great time as well. It's fun racing with Tuna since we are about the same speeds. Seems we finish together often on these distance races. I have video soon and Solstice vid is about done.

I just went into email a little while ago so he hasn't had a chance to respond. And it's siesta time, anyway. But I'll get any pics he sends out to everyone.

In a few days, I imagine he'll post all the fleets to the LCYC smugmug files.

Hey,
I know it isn't Tx and it isn't your all's portsmouth racing but the Oklahoma City boat club is sending 9 lasers to the White Cap regatta in Wichita Kansas. We have one open spot on top of a 4 stack trailer.

If you can make it to Oklahoma city by 6pm on friday you can throw your laser on top of our trailer and ride up with us. You don't even have to pitch in on the gas from OKC to wichita.

We are expecting almost 30 lasers on the line! We are all camping and from what I hear there will be alot of beer!

First person to call me 405-213-5850, gets the spot! Probably have room for 1 on top of the sequioa if you get desperate so that might make 2 spots.

same 79.1 this boat beat me at the midwinters boat for boat against my AC. Refloored by Hungry Beaver boats. Redecked by Don Brennan. PITA is not longer a pain in the ass but a very nice older Nethercott. Need money for stitches. DG

Hmmm...wrong number? I noticed Arrested Development was scored at 79.1 at Wurstfest 11, same as Ortega's IC. So I went to the tables at ussailing and there's nothing for an AC. Guess the RC took the IC when they couldn't find anything else.

http://www.regattane...TBY=SAIL_NUMBER

Guess that explains how in the single, solitary instance I've ever been able to stay with him in a race and then cross the finish together, he still beat me. I owed him time!

Didn't affect the outcome of the regatta, so no biggie.

I have a rating of 76.1 on my AC, vs. 79.1 on my two IC's. The Wetas number should be 82.4 and if it is blowing hard and crewed should be a 84. I should be giving you time regardless . Talk to Mickey. Let's get this changed. DG

Here's the Branch race.. Sorry but it's mostly Tuna and I. Ok, it's all Tuna and I. I didn't get to the start until 1:47 before start and wasn't ready with cam until after mark 1. Fun race though, had Red beaten down about 1/2 mile ahead after mark 2.
