Here's the Branch race.. Sorry but it's mostly Tuna and I. Ok, it's all Tuna and I. I didn't get to the start until 1:47 before start and wasn't ready with cam until after mark 1. Fun race though, had Red beaten down about 1/2 mile ahead after mark 2.

TCC Website Standings updated with the Branch Race results and the HOT Regatta has been added to the schedule.

We will be scoring the best 7 finishes this year.

At the half way mark, Big D has a commanding lead in the overall standings but the fight for the 2nd position is wide open with 5 regattas to go.

That fella with the big white truck showed up and sailed lasers last night in Austin.

After coming back to shore he told m ome blabbedy blab about his boat drifting away from him.

I Was sympathetic and happy he caught up to it with no bad results...

but

Here I sit five hours later realizing the fishing fella probably got excited and stepped off the side while forgetting the boat had no trap.

I wish I had seen it...But I was too busy ramming other boats.

I'm confused on how your doing the scoring for DNC???? Since we have 12 members of the TCC shouldn't a DNC be 14?

The max number of boats at any one even was 11 so the DNC is currently counted as 12. If the max increases then so will the DNC value.

A heads up for TCC'ers. The flyer for our next event (Centerboard Regatta) is up on AYC's home page but nothing as far as NOR, SI's or on-line registration yet. It is September 1st and 2nd. When I get word that early registration is up I will let post it here. We've got a busy couple of months coming up with five events left on our 2012 schedule. I hope to make all of them and see everyone there!

Ditto what? You coming out Friday night?????

We also want to launch the boats some weekend downtown on Lake Austin and reign some terror on kayaks and canoes. Seriously, there is a bunch of people down there and zero sailing. I think we could draw some interest that way and have some fun.

Cool... then you'll do the beer can too! It's really more of a parade than a race. Although the last time I was out there. a certain individual in a San Juan 7.7 was taking it a bit too seriously.

We just round 3 marks in any order or direction you want.

Looks like we'll have 3 boats from Clear Lake Sailing Club at Austin. Art and Pam with their V15, me on my Raider, and Dennis on his Raider II.

Robstercraw(Rob) is heading to Florida on Thursday to pick up his new Raider II. He plans on bringing it to Stillhouse on the 22nd.

Looking forward to an exciting fall with 5 events in just over 2 months!

Yeah.... that really increased my coefficient of drag. Arnold asked if he could go and it was blowing early on so I said yes but then the fan turned off when we got out there. We finally figured out how to huddle together on the bow to get the ass out of the water and could actually keep up with Jenny. 2 up in light air on a Weta is sloooow.

Updated results are posted http://texascenterbo...g/standings.htm

I calculated the standings with 2 throw outs and it changed things a bit. Crumps is now 1 point ahead of Mikey for 2nd... Big D is still all alone way out in front.

Waiting For The Great Pumpkin Regatta NOR is now posted! http://clearlakesailingclub.org/

We are trying to get one design fleets for Sunfish and Lasers this year. I liked how RCYC ran the separate start and finish lines and we are working to make that happen, if we have more than 1 fleet, so the races can start as soon as a fleet has finished and not have to wait for other fleets.

Why Fred is a good guy;

I was approaching the windward mark on port tack with another boat on my hip to starboard. We both tacked on the lay line to starboard just at the 3 boat circle. I tacked first then the boat on my hip. A third boat already on the layline and on starboard called "three boats" on both of us and protested even though I didn't cause him to change course (the boat on my hip did). This fellow spent half the downwind leg yelling at me to do turns; I yelled back and considered punching him on shore.

Same race I'm on the next beat up to the weather mark on port tack. Out of nowhere Fred shows up and I yell "starboard" just as I T-bone the shit out of him. He say's "I think you're OK, I didn't hear any crunching sounds and oh, by th way, I'm on the other starboard"...

I clearly fouled Fred and his responce was basically to make sure my boat was OK and couldn't care less about the foul. Stellar attitude.

I'm curious who that other laser was??? For the first time in my life, I actually protested a laser for a p/s incident. I was too late to actually file said protest but we went thru mediation anyways and I wasn't very happy with it. Even thoiugh he admited to being going downwind on port while I was upwind on starboard, said I didn't call starboard soon enough and there was a boat to leeward of him. Neither of which really matters since he could only duck me by heading up. The only reason I protested was he didn't acknowledge me what so ever.

I can add to why Fred is a good guy. My goose-neck broke during the 4th race on Saturday and Fred fixed it for me at 8 Saturday night so I could continue racing Sunday.

Thanks Fred!

The other Laser you refer to was sail # 44. He was recently reinstated to race after a years ban for being a total asshole; looks like the suspension did not work. I was fouled more than once by the same boat with the same results.

I was chasing Dave down and saw the incedent when I heard him yelling starboard. I unfortunately did not get called as a witness. We now know what the horn blowing means when RC gets to the dock though.

What I'd really like to know is, whatcha gotta do to get banned from sailing in the Laser Class?

It's funny, the guys up front in the fleet mostly sail around anyone at the bottom of the fleet without issue. It's the guys at the bottom of the fleet who look for ways to either break or inflict the rules on whomever can better their results. Those are the sailors who ruin it for many. If I'm going to have a shot at a trophy then maybe I say something if someone really screws me up. But if I'm in the hunt for 9th or 10th, shut the fuck up and sail.

Allana, the women kicking the pants off 2/3 of the men in the Lasers, had a great way to avoid any issues; as she approached others on starboard she pounded the deck of her boat a couple of times. That way the others knew she was there. Very effective and smart.

BTW, I had zero issues with anyone from the CB fleet; about got cut in half by the Moth once while he was approaching 150 mph but to him it probably wasn't even close. I could surf a lot better than him though...

Peckover pounded the deck once on me when I was headed downwind. I just pointed behind him and I guess he got the idea. John loves to strafe people in his love flying craft which doesn't surf at all. Good to see him finish in the back end for once... lol.

Good to see the CB fleet behaved... and again, I have zero desire to proptest anyone. Just wish he had looked at me, held up his hand or something as he went by.

I too want to know what it takes to get banned from sailing and if so, why return to it?

I had the same result with Doug, and even though on starboard, I ducked him;as I knew he was in front of his fleet, never had any incidents and can olnly imagine what an asshat you have to be to be banned for a year! Half the fun of sailing is seeing how close you can get without hitting!
Big d talks about never having a protest in 15 years of canoe sailing, even at the worlds!, guess that's why I sail one;gentleman racers.

The guys who yell, scream, bully, and don't play well witb others, probably have issues elsewhere in life.

I am not the most level headed fellow on teh planet and used to be lots worse than I am now, but if I ahve learned anything in teh last decade or two, it is that I sail for fun and when that fun stops happening I should PERSONALLY take stept so make it fun again.
F olks who don't really have full control of their boats or know the rules well are not going to have more fun if I notice their plight and pile on misery

About the starboard port whack described above. We were both deep in the fleet. I was on Starboard not quite crossing. he saw me at the last second, he said ( not yelled) starboard. There was a clunk...His bow slid off the back of my boat as I had planned the inpact before he hit and tightened my mainsheet and bore off to aviod teh bow snag situation developing.. and then I giggled..."I'm on the Other Starboard."

he asked about turns and I said we had already pre penalized ourselves and ought to focus on catching up with teh fleet. he offered to fix my boat. I told him there was no crunchingand things were fine...not even a smudge on either boat.

If we had been tied for first or second instead, he would heve done his turns and we would ahve gone to shore to laugh later.

I loved it.."The other starboard" I have been waiting all my life to use that line!!!

Gigles while sailing horribly and getting a beat down...The event couldn't have come at a better time.

Fellow TCCer's

In December the Kettle Cup Regatta will be held in Florida (http://www.flalmsa.org/?page_id=77).

Dave Ellis won it last year and since he spanked us at Seabrook this year, I am sure he will win again but I am going to go there and put up my best effort.

Art said he's going to look into making the trip with Pam and his V15.

Anyone else interested in making the trip to Florida?

We'd love to have a chance to meet some TCC'ers in Sanford for the Kettle Cup. My wife and I sail a 29er there with the Lake Monroe Sailing Association. It's a great bunch of people and you will be made welcome. I've got an IC here that I can make available if someone wants to race it. We can also provide a place to sleep for 2 (4 if sofas are acceptable). Come on out and race with us.

Truth be known, I have ulterior motives for attending the Kettle. When friends and family ask what I have been up to, I can say, "Pam and I raced the noted "Kettle Cup" in Florida". Traveling halfway across the states to race sailboats would lead said friends and family to believe I'm better than I actually am. Little do they know, I could capsize a barge in one-foot seas.
When they ask, "Well, how did you place? Did you guys win a trophy?" "Oh, we placed just out of the trophies." Speaking in relative terms works every time. Perception is everything.

Alfonso is outside right now trying to make Tapley's boat ready for this weekend.

it will be.

There was a "little leak"

The walls of the trunk were reinforced around the pivit bolts with blocks of compost.
The wood cap on the trunk was not fastened to the thwaRT . the WOOD CAP WAS BROKEN IN HALF AT The FRONT SO The PRESsURE WENT ENTIRLELY TO The LEEWARD SIDE OF The CAP.

THE outer HOUSING WAS TORN AS IT WAS NOT DESIGNED TO HOLD The BOARD PRESSURE WITHOUT HELP FROM BOTH ITS WINDWARD AND LEEWARD WALLS,..OOPS!!! the damn caps lock is too close to the a key,

By around 6 pm there will be a new reinforcement around the pivot bolt...and some new glass designed to replace teh busted front end wood block...wood blocks under teh thwart to ho,ld teh trunk cap in the center.

and the cdnterboard was split entirely apart in the entire top foot. I have no idea why it had not sheared off at the hull. Craig is looking for another board, We epoxied the old board back together

Tapley is a MUCH better sailor than you guys realize. His boat barely was floating.

I didn't see y'all capsize as much as me, but then no-one does!

From previous dunkings I know we don't do well when I try to gybe with the main all the way out so I suggest we sheet in as I run down and turn the boat through the gybe. We almost made it but my steering being a bit erratic on occasion assures us of a refreshing swim.

I think I see the reason ortega wants to sail the Kettle Cup.

Looking forward to the HOT at Stillhouse, even if the winds turn out to be a bit light.

Looks like a pretty good line up so far! Ortega and his Canoe, Pam & Art on the V-15, Kent in his (liable to kick some arse) Raider. Tap in either the Fireball or Cyclone, me in the Contender, plus Larry, Curly and Moe in their Weta's. :P

You both swim a lot with your boats. The line from that scene in Casablance is, "I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship."
