Injured 29er skipper Tess Lloyd has returned to her hometown of Melbourne to continue her rehabilitation following an accident at the 2012 Australian Youth Championships earlier this month.
Since the January 10 accident Tess had been receiving treatment at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane until her condition improved enough to allow her to travel.
Late last week Tess’ doctors and family decided that she was healthy enough return to Melbourne and be close to her family and friends.
Tess is now receiving intensive rehabilitation at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne where she has ready access to the necessary experts. Tess has already made great progress and continues to show signs of improvement every day in her speech and memory.
The Lloyd family would like to thank the excellent doctors, nurses and ambulance staff that have played such a big part in Tess’ recovery, as well as the wider sailing community for the support they have shown her.

Keep it up Tess!

In a year of heartwarming stories for the Australian sailing team, perhaps one of the best was saved for last.
In January, Tess Lloyd, 17, spent three weeks in an induced coma with swelling around her brain and fluid on her lungs after being knocked unconscious by a windsurfer at the youth sailing championships off Brisbane.
The then 16-year-old was competing in the 29er skiff class when the windsurfer hit her boat, planed over the vessel and hit Lloyd square on the skull, knocking her out and into the water.
The Melbourne-based sailor was taken to Brisbane's Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition - and there were real doubts as to whether she'd survive.
And on Saturday, she won the 29er skiff class with crewmate Eliza Solly, 17, at the Sail Melbourne World Cup regatta in Port Phillip Bay.
"It's been a big year for me," Lloyd told AAP.
"But I think it's been really good for me - I've been working really hard on my sailing.
"I'm more determined and really enjoying everything."
Lloyd, who wears a protective helmet when the wind blows above 15 knots, was cheered on by her mum, dad and uncles.
Lloyd and Solly, who are rated among Australia's best young sailors, turn 18 next year and say they'd like to campaign for the 2016 Rio Games in the 49erFX.
The 29er skiff they sail is the youth version of the 49erFX.

Well done to the little "Blonde Bombshell". Great way to finish a tough year. Go Tess.

I well remember assisting Tess at a Sail Sandy regatta not too many years ago when she dropped the rig out of her Minnow (Blonde Bombshell) We towed her back to shore where she promptly "negotiated" the use of a replacement mast from another competitor. No sooner was she back on the course than that one fell down too and she promptly burst into gales of laughter where most kids would have been devastated. She's come a long way since those days.
