The Oakville Yacht Squadron (www.oysqn.com) will be hosting the event as part of its annual Mercedes-Benz Oakville Regatta this coming August 11th & 12th, 2012.
In attendance will be the four local J/27s, plus we are expecting between 4 to 6 other boats from the rest of the Lake Ontario Fleet.
If there are any boats still out there who have an interest in attending, and have any questions or need any assistance, please drop me an e-Mail at andrew_riem@hotmail.com.

If the owner says no, do you know of of any local boats that might be available to charter?

Cobourg has no lift to get "Gong Show" out of the water and onto a trailer. My only option is to sail her to Oakville.

BMoved over from the J70 thread.

I have a pretty flexible schedule, so if I am not moving one of the Collingwood boats down(havn't decided which one, if either), I might be able to give you a hand with the delivery.
let's touch base at the start of the season.

I have to see how the boat comes together in the spring. I believe I have all the rigging assembled.

One-Design & Class Rules
One owner enquired about how strict we were going to be about Class Rules & One Design. Let’s face it…there’s no class anymore so hard to say there are any class rules. As far as One-Design, a summary of my response is as follows:
“Most of us have the Cascading Backstay, Increased Vang & Outhaul Purchase, Solid Vang, Windward Sheeting Traveller & Adjustable Genoa Cars, Faired Foils/Bottoms & Additional Forestay Toggle. Otherwise...we also all have our interiors, coolers, cushions but no stove, head or anchor. Rigs & Foils are all standard. We normally race with motors off, on the cabin floor & 4 to 5 on the rail. As for the sails...I suspect we all have big roach mains by now. #1’s should be between 153% & 155%. #3’s should be between 100% & 105%. I think the biggest variation would be in Spinnakers and suspect most of us have a larger than class PHRF Spinnaker. So that's sort of the defacto One Design J/27. If yours fit within that then I think that's One Design enough. We're certainly not talking about measuring sails or weighing hulls/crew.”
I think everyone wants to test themselves against each other in equal boats and, given that sentiment, assume everyone will work within the spirit of One Design.

24 was her hull number, but that is not the Baby, unless someone did a shit ton of work to her. They would have had to repaint her topsides, her deck, took off the solid vang, removed the cascading backstay and took off the adjustable genoa tracks. I would love to track her down and find out what is up. Last I heard she went to virginia. Sail number used to be 25018.

Probably the last update until the event (as I need to get back to working on the boat and actually sailing)…so here goes:
Numbers
We have a verbal confirmation from seven boats (5 from Oakville + Northern Seitz + Monkeyshine) so there will be our own start/fleet and 1Design racing. At least 3 other local boats have indicated their intention to come. We've even had interest from a J/27 as far away as Texas. All I can say is the more the merrier and re-iterate my offer to help anyone with the logistics of getting into a boat and/or getting their boat here as needs be/in whatever way I can.
Registration (Now Open)
As opposed to me tracking and harassing everyone, I suggest everyone with the intention of attending simply register at
https://www.oysqn.com/index.php/weekend-regatta/regatta-registration-form-paypal/. Knowing the numbers early will ensure we get our own start, help work out mooring requirements for everyone, and ensure we have enough swag to go around.
Swag
Speaking of…I am budgeting for 5 shirts per boat and if each of the owners could drop me an e-Mail at the time of registration indicating sizing for their crew, I’ll try and ensure we get the right sizes for everyone.

WHO CARES WHAT WAS WHERE. AWSOME TO HAVE 11 BOATS AT A OD REGATTA, MOST OF WHICH ARE 25 YEARS OLD! Great job Andrew on the organization and keeping everyone up to date. Looking forward to it, going to be fun. Now lets all hope we don't get the Light Airs of Augaust on Lake Ontario.2002 were in Buffalo. 2001 were at Larchmont

As for us on Starlet, we had a great time! We didn't really buy the boat with the intention of doing much racing aside some JAM club racing with the kids but this weekend might make us change our mind on that. Even though we were shorted handed after dropping off 2 seasick crew on Satuday, the downwind rides were a blast! Sunday was good, fun tight racing as well!
Can't wait for next year
MH
P.S. Thanks for sailing with us on Saturday Piglet, even is we did much better without you on Sunday!

Mike...welcome & congrats...good to hear your made it back home safely. We expect a counter offensive next year about this time and expect reinforcements from both sides; I understand others are already mustering the troops on both sides of the border...you may have the trophy but thanks for leaving the womenAndrew, the eye is back to you, great weekend plenty of sailing and more fun. These boats love wind and waves and we got to play on Saturday, The Americas have retreated today and back where they belong. We had a blast and will be talking about this regatta for quite a while.

First of the video footage is up on the Contour.com website, search for J-27 & you should find samples of Sat & Sun from the Whitefeather POV camera here:

Clearly I need a taller camera mount, Rain-X on the lens & more weight on the rail.
Thanks Andrew for all your work in bringing together a fantastic crowd!!!
