Will Rob bring Akimbo down for Airlie Race week?

Not sure, but I know he's dropped his big Kite in to see if it can be stitched back together after shredding it last winter series..

It's not too bad with the wind being as light as it is. Couple of years ago we (Akimbo) gave the marker at Breaksea about 2 meters. A fair bit of current there though.. It was just after that that we found the crack in the Leward pontoon and our race ended. Gybed over to pump it out and sailed back to Harvey Bay..

A quick revision of the last two pages shows the following guesstimates of T.A.s finishing time

Plywoodboy 2.05 am
Ybar 2.15 am
Auscat 2.30 am
Trimaraner 3.00 am
Greenboat 3.15 am
Darkhorse 3.30 am
F15aus 4.00 am
Shaneo 4.15 am

Sorry if I missed anybody, or typed the wrong time,
add your guess to the list

Prizes to be determined, how about no more bets after 1am

Boss has shown there is more wind close in (experience helps)
Chil pil has seen this and headed for the surf.
agree with you shaneo, seaway around boss would be interesting about now.
Monos appear to be doing that boring direct down wind course
was wondering if TA would do a long gybe to busted

Chill was doing great hanging with Mojo but not beating them I guess the just had to go FOF.

Nearly as much fun as sailing this, but cant beat the party at the end.

its just coming up to 1am

Vodaphone tweeted this week, they were upset that the race that kept them away from the B2G was cancelled due to floating debri from Rena

More trivia if you are interested, I measured Saxby new slightly smaller bag last week. He reduced a few rags to get the rating down and knew that this would be a gamble. The angles he is sailing in the lighter stuff now would back that.
Mojo are doing superb to be there. The boys looked pumped at the start. Julian ain't limping any more, and the smiths had a wheel each to stop the arguments. They were blasting around at the start with a furled screacher, big furled headsail , and a furled inner staysail to cover all possibilities. The boat is superlight, swinging the featherlight cardboard doors inside the boat plays tricks on your senses. She was floating a lot higher than Chill, which still looked rootable without beer goggles.

More wakey stuff, this is one of the 18s upright for a demo race at Shorncliffe, looked pretty good when we were heading back. The others were not enjoying the jelly fish and a few choctops embarrassed them.
Head of the APC main looked pretty ordinary Dark Horse, get on it next week eh?

They had a start down the leeward end that was not pretty.

The course looks a bit spooky from here, red arrow indicates a special windward leeward, and Mickey Mouse looks really scary.

I really think our finish times should have all been in before the mid point was passed but hell, next time we could be better organised and actually have a prize! Like a ride on TA sounds pretty right to me. Now with the benefit of the latest position update looks like 3.25! Just kidding. 16 nm to go at 16kts, 5 mins for gybes, manouvers, drop outs, traffic, etc and its all over for another year. Going to need 20 to 30 kts of steady breeze to beat this one! What a great ride it must have been. Cheers all.

I just hope if the greens get a few more seats in government, they ban motors from being used while racing in the vicinity of the Barrier Reef (and me).

Sorry couldn't last, big day on the tools, gave up just after 1:30am.
Congrats to Sean, have seen him spend a lot of time and money on something that generated criticism in the harbour town.
Sean is a keen multihuler, always was interested in Martin Riley and the Berg boys efforts, always said he would convert

Hope this shows the way for a few more single legged sailer to join the fast lane, wish/hope I win the lottery so I can get me one of those carbon tubes.

Good call darkhorse, to everyone else here's a hint wait to the very last moment to quesstimate, this almost worked for me in the BP5 guessing game. Should be a happy day at Gladstone marina, with the schionning's and the Boss doing well.

Boss is now heading up the Harbour - against the tide..
Mojo & Chill pill are still ahead of the Motorsailors... Good stuff..

My call on the TA time was also based on predicting 16 1/2 hour race record for them at Sailtech on Thursday.. not far off
So good to see 4 Multi's ahead of the monoslugs..

Good on Boss.. amazing how they get that boat going..

I feel the Boss and Mojo pain. That last trek in when you can smell the alumina, see the dying fork-tailed catfish, and tack through 120 degrees no matter how fast your boat is will stick with me always.
We had time in the drains to get pissed, sober up, and start again.
Then they get to head home into this system forming next.
Maybe the keyboard wasn't a bad place to be ?

Oh how the outgoing time can hurt, especially with lighter winds..
I feel your pain Boss, Mojo and the remaining Multi's..
Motor sailors have missed their Race Record.. Maybe TA will get more media coverage as a result.. one can only hope

Still miss being out there... next year..

We may have to start the multis a couple of hours later so we can get film of KA finishing in daylight?

I dont the trad press and the mono crowd, they are happy to see a 100 foot motor sailor racing a 4KSB but get sad and depressed when a cheaper smaller boat goes well, simpy because it has more hulls.

7 sponsors Wild Oats, 9 put a breakfast show host on Leopard, maybe 10 can now sponsor Langman? Media wise it would have to be a great deal and then there might be some exposure on at least one network!
Get Vodafone over and put Craig Lowndes or Jamie Windcup on it...media heaven.

HI again fellas,
You are probably saturated by now, but found better pix of start in my own camera. Boss is starting to wind up in 2239 heading towards us. There was a fair bit of barging all round, but all were nice about it.
Some nice shots for any wanting to build a Mojo or a Chill.
Better coverage tonight on news and I have a phone promise of good Courier Mail tomorrow.
Enjoy, and have a sleep tonight unless we all play Virtual Skipper together.

And how do you know what we know about Gunboats? I love all these mirrorball readers on this forum ;-) it's awesome!

No one seems to know much about the gunboats, I know a bit about them, i see the competition and I think that is where it would come. Try and find someone who has sailed on a gunboat and doesn't rate them.

Really happy to welcome him and didn't dis him at all, and I have high regard for gunboats, but I also have high regard for JG and the smith brothers and the boat and their sailing talent. All I think anyone said was that we weren't sure how he could say he would definitely beat MOJO, Chill Pill Boss etc without ever having raced them, I would have loved seeing the gunboat in the race, I would have loved seeing some footage of the freshly baked scones being served at 25 knots, but it didnt happen this year, perhaps next.

Just returned home.

Great race on Mojo, only topped 22knts, not bad for a cruising boat . Got hammered on Saturday morning, missed the tied and got stuck in the transition wind period in the morning. Lost to Boss for going east of the line, but that was a call we all decided as we thought the wind was going to come in from the east, not to happen! Carried the new staysail the whole race, worked a treat. The chill Pill sailed well close behind, also got smashed out wide.
The numbers were down, bit of a bummer. Shit hot to see the the big tri in a fly shit of action because thats all we saw, about 5mins before the start then 5 mins of there transom, that was it.
Jules at vidpicpro was at the start in a chopper and at the end and we had her gopro on board with us and she has some shit hot stuff, so check her web site out.

Mojo is off cruising now, heading north, so keep an eye out for .
Cheers Julian

Congrats on the 3rd, 2nd and 2nd. Thanks for the quick update
Mojo and Chillpill has to be of interest to a few tilted sailers.
Me thinks we'll see a bit more of those fast schionings.

As at 10am on saturday morning Team Aus, Mojo, Chillpill are ahead of all the mono's
Foxy is within sight of those expensive sails, says something about multi sailing even with a very small fleet this year.

with an out going tide as they enter gladstone harbour, my money is on foxy, go shane pretend you are on your nacra.

Mate, they were never even close to being in front of the leading monos.

Interesting comment oomum, were you facing backwards when you made the observation?
If you took the monomotorsailors out of the sailing event, even a Hobie would have beaten the fastest leadmines.

I am sure the poor suckers on the pumps on Lahana would disagree.

Was on chill pill closest we got to the maxis was seeing glimpses of their stern lights in the distance. Think there were some tracker issues. The chill was a sensational boat to sail a tonne of fun.....

There was definately a problem with the Leadmine's tacker system. I followed it all through Friday night and the whole night and most of Saturday showed Mojo & Chill Pill, Boss & TA all ahead of the lead Mono's.. Wasn't until lunchtime that I found out that the lead mono's had finished earlier even though their trackers said they were still racing.. and the Mono B2G site also went down..
Turns out only TA beat the 3 fastest leadmines in.. by about 5 hours tho..

Was dissapointing that the Mono web sites were so far out. MYCQ seemed spot on..
I'll have to find a way to be out on the water next year...

Rushour race report.
While in hospital on Thursday night getting a finger screwed back together I figured we would not be having a great race. I was right from the aspect of wind and boat positioning. We first got stuck under a cloud at Tangalooma along with Foxy and Renaissance. Attitude just managed to slip by in front of us and escaped never to be seen again. For a while we were down to about 2 knots of breeze and the breeze then stayed light till Caloundra. Breeze came back and we were off. We made a descision to go east of the rumb line but by about 1.00am the breeze dropped instead of increasing. (aparently you should never leave the coast)On a side note we had a large gentle swell running of about 4 m so when we were in the troughs we ran out of wind because we have a short mast. Anyway by the time we got back to shore Attitude Foxy and Rennaissance had all gone. Wind was under 10 knots for the next 20 hours straight from behind. From a positive point we had great weather, full moon, good company beer and plenty of food. Negative was coming into Gladstone going up the channels in the middle of the night against the tide took forever. We finished at 5.00am. Maybe next year.
