I know nothing other than when I went to school there in the early 90s there were some seriously hot blondes hanging with the team. Go Wildcats!

They had a massive fire that destroyed a lot of their gear a few years back. I was down there to compete a little over a year ago (fall 2010) and they had just received brand new boats. Wonderfully accommodating team and really nice people all around. For a team that seemingly got decimated overnight, they've done a credit to themselves getting back in gear (pun not intended). From an outside perspective I give them a massive thumbs-up!

You might learn to spell first, it's "wildcat" not "Wild Cats."

And the sailing team is not "cool" and no one cares about it.

Sorry, but I do think it is a waste of your parents money to send you to a college. I think that perhaps you would be happier in a trade school learning to sheetrock or perhaps roofing.

Then you could drink beer and smoke cigs with your friends at the bowling lanes during league nights.

Fawk an 11 hour drive, I think you'll regret that. That's 300 in fuel alone, if you get good mileage. Oh well. Enjoy the cold. Get a drysuit, a good one.

College sailors arent good enough for wespy. for wespy here, if you havent won the AC you just arent that great or worth his consideration. mind you, wespy cant sail dinghies, so, i would ignore a good portion of what he says.

While partially true that's also not relevant to this discussion. Also, I can and have sailed dinghies, I just choose not to.

I'm saying that just because UNH is in the best district in the country does not make them a good team.

Not a strong team, but their coach is nothing if not enthusiastic about the sport. Relative to other NEISA teams further south in the beantown area, they don't really compete and are never ranked in the top 20. That being said, you will still have a great time sailing and with any luck help the team to getting ranked.

"Hyaluronic framistan replanaration" is the thought coming to mind at the moment, since you were kind enough to ask!

And after that, alkylcarbonyloxymethylation, followed by prompt defenestration. Well chilled, shaken not stirred.

Let's get back to the issue. Why would someone go to UNH to sail? Is this equivalent to going to Miami to ski?

Someone pointed out the chicks at UNGH would be a good reason. According to the recent US News & World Report on college rankings, the football players have control over the hot chicks, the hockey players have control over the rest, and the sailing teams are all gaye.

Au contraire monsieur deux.

Many prep schools offer a post graduate year. A student who attended grades 9-PG would spend five years in a prep school, conceivably without even flunking a class.

dorag how does it feel to have no friends and no life that you have to judge people that you do not even know? If I wanted to go to a trade school I would not have already spent five years of my life in a private college prep school where I had the opportunity to sail in high school nationals more than once.

Be advised that prep schools are four, not five years........

WTF?

Au contraire monsieur deux.

Many prep schools offer a post graduate year. A student who attended grades 9-PG would spend five years in a prep school, conceivably without even flunking a class.

And the point of a five year high school would be........?

I can think of alot of reasons, another year of banging high school girls legally for starters, another year of not doing anything really important except being big man on campus spending daddy's money, and most of all, another year of high school sailing, so you can really get ready to be a force on the college sailing team, especially in one of the coldest parts of the country.

Also gives athletes another year to mature and grow before competing at a collegiate level... can also give you a year to boost your GPA at a private school to hopefully get you into a better college

Rather artificial, isn't it? If you can't earn your GPA in the normal time, then perhaps college isn't for you? Sounds like the strategy by some parents to hold their kids back a grade in the early years so the kid can better compete. Fact is, the kid that needs to resort to those tactics will never compete. He will end up flip[ping burgers and reporting to some dude name Raul or Paco.

Again, trade schools are OK, they are dignified ways for one to enhance their self-worth. This kid, er111a, has demonstrated time and time agin that he lacks the intellectual capacity to benefit from a college education. Yet he insists on wasting his parents money (or, horrors, taxpayer money)so he can go......sailing? He will probably also look to BHO for forgiveness so that his student loans won't prove burdensome in latter life. Er111a personifies the direction of this country and the decline of the culture that made this country great. He, not GWB, also caused global warming and percipitated Iran's development of nuclear weapons. Er111a sucks. Yet the US taxpayers will be forced to underwrite his four years sailing at UNH.

I don't understand that sentence.

What exactly is it that you are trying to say?

First, he's asking why he should stop posting the phrase "it's this douche here." Admittedly, he wrote the possessive "its" rather than the abbreviation for "it is," but still I think this is what he means. "This douche" may be the forum, or perhaps any of several individuals on it. It could even be some completely unrelated douche he is experiencing. It is unclear.

I believe the next intended sentence means to communicate that he asked an honest question.

The last intended sentence seems to express a paranoia that you are trying to ejaculate in his direction or perhaps even onto his person. Ugggh. It is an irrational fear that would have better been left unmentioned.

And until you develop the wisdom that sumpin projects for you, please send some time with Strunk & White or another writing guide.
Even by the low standards of this venue your posts are painful to read. Perhaps more importantly for you, they suggest you will have only 1 semester of eligibility.

Please post the name of the school so that other people on this board can be sure not to send their children to the same school.
Your posts here are embarrassing and you lack the awareness to realize it. To make matters worse, you forge ahead with the aforementioned unawareness and continue to drag down the reputation of UNH and your high school. Others have politely and gently suggested to you that you back down and spare yourself further embarrassment. Your refusal to accept this sound advice leads people to question your judgement in addition to your intelligence. You are not helping yourself by continuing to respond. You are only harming the reputation of the high school that inflated your grades and the college that accepted you. Did your entrance essays contain so many grammatical, spelling errors or did you pay a service to write them for you? If the latter, pay them a little more money to write a graceful exit post from this thread. If the former, just stop posting for a while.

Yikes!

Now, let's look at this from another standpoint. Here we have young Nimrod wanting to attend college, mainly for the sailing. Let's be honest, young Nimrod is not the brightest light bulb on the planet. Whatever.

So, the younger n imrod heads off to UNH, with a sailbag filled with sailing smocks, booties , Dubarry's, and sailing sunglasses. OK. His parents, sensing the worse, say "go forth young Nimrod, study and sail hard. And, BTW, you need to fund those four years with student loans." So Nimrod the Younger goes forth, successfully becomes crew on FJ #2 for UNH, manages a B- average by taking suck ass classes as the history of sailing, black studies, and the role of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egyptian politics. He actually does graduate, much to the surprise of his parents. However, he is now $80K in debt. He finds he is unable to secure a reasonable job as, well, let's be honest, he isn't all that bright and he didn't set the world on fire with his achievement of making the B sailing team at UNH. No prospective employer was impressed.

His first job pays $25K. Nimrod the Younger discovers that those wages barely cover an apartment in the 'hood, food, and gas for his moped. He then realizes that BHO, during his second term as POTUS, will forgive student loans that prove to be "abusive" (note that any loan that is expected to be paid back is, by definition, "abusive"). Anyway, he gets the Government to intercede with his contract with First Marblehead, or, even worse, those greedy bastards at the B of A, and lo and behold, the taxpayers are forced to pay for Nimrod the Younger's "education" and sailing performance on the "B" team. At UNH.

Lovely.

SA'ers are outraged by this and call for justice! Equality! Freedom!

A Nimrod Protest movement will start, state capitals across the country will be subjected to poorly dressed folks eating smelly sandwiches in the lobby and farting a lot. Our country will be brought to a standstill, enabling the Arabs to launch an attack and take over. Israel will standby and watch, as they never liked BHO anyway. There you have it folks. The destruction of modern civilization soley the result of this moron, Nimrod the Younger, wanting to go to college to sail. And have someone else pay for it.

I'm not saying one can't in some instances hold down a job while getting a graduate degree in the sciences, but at least in the typical PhD program they don't want to know about it, and it would be hard to do, because one works full time for the professor while doing the coursework as well.

As for good pay, if I recall right I made $440/week from the university.

Pretty much matches with DoRag's $25K, if assuming pay is a little better now.

EDIT: Oh shit, I think it was $440 per 2 weeks. I'm pretty sure of it. You're screwed! :)

Congratulations on your massive achievement. I'm sure this is a large step up from your perennial acceptance of participation trophies. However, you still fail to understand why you're getting abused here.
1. Since the beginning, you have been harassed for your inability to construct a sentence, yet you respond with "hey Dorag guess who just got on NHS." WTF does "got on NHS" mean? Why can't you figure out when to use punctuation or capitals, and why do you continually respond with ungrammatical text? As more than one person has suggested, Strunk and White is cheap and it's a short read.
2. Nobody gives a shit about the trivial achievements you're posting about, yet you keep offering up new material for abuse. It's clear that you think these things you're claiming are a big deal, but they're not. Nobody outside of you and Mrs. Nimrod care about this or want to hear about it.
3. You're not going to get a job in microbiology or any other field if you can't construct a sentence or type a coherent, grammatical, spelling error free resume and cover letter/introductory email. You resume will get thrown aside before anyone has a chance to judge you based upon your senior speech and other fine merits. DoRag apparently has a hang-up about student loan bailouts and similar concessions, but he also has a problem reading drivel from unintelligent, unaware, and uninteresting people. Putting aside the student loan commentary, he's mainly bashing you for being illiterate, boring, and unimaginative. He and many others are disturbed by reading posts that do not add any value to the forum.
4. You're young, obnoxious and very unaware of the world beyond your village and whatever drivel you absorb through your TV. It's irritating to be exposed to your utterances. Some people have a stronger reactions to this than others.
5. You're naivete is insipid and boring. Your assumption that you won't get kicked out of a microbiology program within the first year or two seems overly optimistic. I know that it's not a tough degree, but anyone with any life experience knows there are challenges ahead. Of course, anyone who has read this thread is well aware that you, in particular, are going to face even more challenges because you come off as unintelligent, arrogant, and naive. You also seem to lack judgement and the ability to take advice.
6. According to US News, UNH has a 73.4% acceptance rate. It is ranked 46th amongst public schools and 101st amongst national universities. These statistics do not portend wild success. You only had to beat out one out of every 4 applicants to get in and I'm fairly certain that the other applicants were not sending applications to Harvard.
7. I'm too fucking bored to continue. Just STOP!

It's doubtful that whiz kid has ever worked a job, but that's not worth discussing because it's highly doubtful that an illiterate child from a mid to low-tier school would be accepted into any PhD program. The last I checked, PhD programs do not have 73% acceptance rates.

But weren't you planning on the microbiology degree as the means to enter graduate school?

I'm not saying one can't in some instances hold down a job while getting a graduate degree in the sciences, but at least in the typical PhD program they don't want to know about it, and it would be hard to do, because one works full time for the professor while doing the coursework as well.

As for good pay, if I recall right I made $440/week from the university.

Pretty much matches with DoRag's $25K, if assuming pay is a little better now.

EDIT: Oh shit, I think it was $440 per 2 weeks. I'm pretty sure of it. You're screwed! :)

It's doubtful that whiz kid has ever worked a job, but that's not worth discussing because it's highly doubtful that an illiterate child from a mid to low-tier school would be accepted into any PhD program. The last I checked, PhD programs do not have 73% acceptance rates.

I do not think that is a fair statement :( I work a hard summer job during the summer that pays 375 a week and also "play" around with stocks. Also if you want to attack the school please keep in mind that I was also accepted to: UNCW, Washington College, Baylor University, Christopher Newport University and am waiting to hear from University of Delaware.
