Who's in for BAMA ( Bay Area Multihull Association ) 33rd DHF on Sat. March 31st ?

Check : 33rd DHF 2012 for updates, details, online entry link.

Per the NOR, Coast Guard requires 406 beacons. Time to buy, borrow, rent one of these great aids to the CG SAR teams.

Since 406 beacons need to be registered to the yacht on the course, entry's need to be submitted by the Skippers Meeting

Skippers' meeting/entry deadline, Wednesday March 28, 2011 7:30 p.m. at the Oakland Yacht Club. All skippers are requested to attend. Any changes in starting procedures, course limits, division placement, etc., will be announced at this meeting. Each skipper is responsible for acquiring information of such changes. Participation mementos for skipper and crew will be available at the Skipper's meeting and/or Trophy presentation.

If your old DHF shirt is wearing out, more available at the BAMA Store

"Have a great race!"

New bottom, some new sails and rigging gear since last time. Same old tactician, though.

We are looking to bullet in the dad-daughter division, and will be on the startline bright and early with our game faces! B)

I Have a serious craving to attend this race. If no crew spots open i can try scrambling one of my old trustfull friends from back home..but then i'll need a ship.are there any boats for charter for this race? Prefferably monos as that is where i (we) have by far most experience.

I'll pay full ensurance for the race and market price for the boat rental depending on shipshape of sails and foils

Will John Craig explain how a couple of dozen weekend warriors mostly in 4ksbs can venture outside the Gate and mix it up with whatever is out there while "the best sailors, the fastest boats" are going to be stuck inshore on a comparatively tiny course? Cause I'd like to hear that. Maybe they couldn't get insurance? B)

Now play nice :-) and he'd be the first to smirk at that comment I'd guess from my interactions. My understanding is that logistics and tv productions (for the business model of this AC) are the limitations on the course.

DesaRae will speak on CG perspective on water events including AC and on the safety /SAR aspects of offshore.

Better than last weekend Posted Image
At least there's wind. and less/decreasing chance of rain 0.05 in. in the city link above which also indicates wind clocking to more typical wnw.

That is from SailFlow, which this far out is using the GRIBs.

That is the great thing about forecasts, if you don't like one, pick another. ;)

I have mixed feelings about having a chance to deploy my new storm trysail in anger.

One reef in a SC27 with a short hoist #4 blade was pretty good in these conditions..or 2 reefs.

I talked to someone who did the 82 race. They had 2 reefs in the main- bald headed on a SC27.

And the forecast is moving about..so keep a watchful eye..

Calming down fast?

Saturday:
WSW wind 17 to 19 kt. Showers. Mixed swell...WNW 10 to 11 ft and SSW 3 ft. Wind waves around 2 ft.

Saturday Night: W wind 14 to 18 kt becoming NNW after midnight. A chance of showers. Mixed swell...WNW 13 to 14 ft and SSW 3 ft. Wind waves around 2 ft.

We are getting a bit closer to a time frame with a forcast I'll put some faith in but give it 12-24 hrs before I'll start looking deeper at it.

Pulled the boat in the AM and hit Ole's Waffle Shop ! Got in just before the rain hit. It was already blowing 20s, gusting to 30+ in the bay and although only hitting 25+ at the bucket it was suppose to get worse. Heard only 5 of 55+ started. US Coast Guard said they would not send out the 47' rescue boat but would scramble the helicopter if needed.

Thanks Trevor. Having to leave a kid home alone today was a factor for me at least -- in case the Bar shut down in the afternoon and we had to divert to HMB or something. Though I'm kind of kicking myself as the forecast seems to be a bit overcooked, based on current (1500 PDT) buoy reports -- 9.5 ft @ 11 secs, winds in the high teens.

Wow, great video. Any insight as to how they mounted the camera? Looks gimballed (and somewhat off-level due to the wind), plus it held pretty steady in some active conditions.

Wow, great video. Any insight as to how they mounted the camera? Looks gimballed (and somewhat off-level due to the wind), plus it held pretty steady in some active conditions.

I asked. Standby.

Send in T-shirt size if not already provided. Need that info to schedule Awards meeting

Sorry for the delay in the awards. We had several personal/family issues in those that were involved. We also had difficulties in getting GPS tracks which we wanted to include in the T shirts design which hopefully you'll like.

Its almost too late- but not yet if you haven't sent them.
Here's how How to download send GPS track

If you didn't tell us T shirt size- please do so or you'll get what we choose :-)

Thanks again for your participation!

Well it seems we finally got the shirts and trophies done. It would be nice to have the awards event before SSS Transpac.

Any suggestions on time?
Agenda
Distribute T shirts Preview shirt
Watch GPS replay with comments
Awards of course
Discussion on DHF 2012 and DHF 2013 in light of LSC and Aegean

Thanks for your participation and patience!
