I Have a serious craving to attend this race. If no crew spots open i can try scrambling one of my old trustfull friends from back home..but then i'll need a ship.are there any boats for charter for this race? Prefferably monos as that is where i (we) have by far most experience.

Will John Craig explain how a couple of dozen weekend warriors mostly in 4ksbs can venture outside the Gate and mix it up with whatever is out there while "the best sailors, the fastest boats" are going to be stuck inshore on a comparatively tiny course? Cause I'd like to hear that. Maybe they couldn't get insurance?
Now play nice :-) and he'd be the first to smirk at that comment I'd guess from my interactions. My understanding is that logistics and tv productions (for the business model of this AC) are the limitations on the course.
DesaRae will speak on CG perspective on water events including AC and on the safety /SAR aspects of offshore.

Better than last weekend
At least there's wind. and less/decreasing chance of rain 0.05 in. in the city link above which also indicates wind clocking to more typical wnw.

Interesting, PredictWind is showing moderate NW'ly.......if the pretty picture above is reality there won't be many boats racing.
That is from SailFlow, which this far out is using the GRIBs.
That is the great thing about forecasts, if you don't like one, pick another.
I have mixed feelings about having a chance to deploy my new storm trysail in anger.

May I suggest a Double Reef+ Main and a #4 Jib or Storm Jib..... or just the Reefed Main.
Saturday is not looking good for anything but a thrashing....... be careful out there.
One reef in a SC27 with a short hoist #4 blade was pretty good in these conditions..or 2 reefs.
I talked to someone who did the 82 race. They had 2 reefs in the main- bald headed on a SC27.
And the forecast is moving about..so keep a watchful eye..

With that and the new #4 we should be good on the way out.........I think I still have my old 1.5oz spin from my Ranger 23 should I bother looking for it??

Thanks Trevor. Having to leave a kid home alone today was a factor for me at least -- in case the Bar shut down in the afternoon and we had to divert to HMB or something. Though I'm kind of kicking myself as the forecast seems to be a bit overcooked, based on current (1500 PDT) buoy reports -- 9.5 ft @ 11 secs, winds in the high teens.
Yep.....but we make our choices and live with them and WE made the choice!!

Yes only CG assets to be deployed would be helo which means say goodbye to the boat and a basket ride up and away if you're fortunate.
Storm front blew through before/during the start.
14 starters
Anduril-Cross 40, Rufles-11M, Truth-open 50, US101-M24, Papillon F27, PhatJack- E37, SeaStig- SC40, El Raton-E27, Red Sky O34, French Kiss- Oceanis350, ZsaZsa- 1D35, Relentless J3200, Plus 16- O911, Bullet- E37
Bullet dropped out within 2 mins.
Other boats since then Relentless, Red Sky, Phat Jack, El Raton, Papillon
Definitely cold front---brrr
Truth finished about 15 mins ago- lookin good! They reported that after they rounded the mark, Ronnie was leading ZSA ZSA approaching the mark (about 1:20)
Zsa Zsa finished 4:47, Rufles at 4:52, SeaStig 5:03.

Good point. And the parents from the non-parents......when it's nasty.
This DHF separates the men from the boys and the boats from the toys.
Well done Truth (and anyone else who showed up, even if you turned around)!
Actually one of the reasons that made me buy a toy instead of a boat.

Wow, great video. Any insight as to how they mounted the camera? Looks gimballed (and somewhat off-level due to the wind), plus it held pretty steady in some active conditions.

T-shirt design w GPS tracks looks good- send them in- maybe your crew has them in a personal GPS if you didn't.
Send in T-shirt size if not already provided. Need that info to schedule Awards meeting

Sorry for the delay in the awards. We had several personal/family issues in those that were involved. We also had difficulties in getting GPS tracks which we wanted to include in the T shirts design which hopefully you'll like.
