EBYRA 2012
#1
Posted 11 February 2012 - 12:47 PM
Members of the board of EBYRA successfully blocked Espo from membership into a rival club; in an example of cowardly, petty, unprofessional and childish behavior (this being the EBYRA board though it should be expected based on their past performance). Not to be outdone Espo's plan B of membership into Morris YC came through followed by an appointment as the MYC Alternate Rep to the EBYRA board.
So now the fox is in the hen house and maybe the sailors of Eastchester Bay will have an association that is managed with the premise of actually fostering and promoting yacht racing, a novel concept and one lost on the prior leadership. Change can either happen when an organization withers away and dies, as is the current trend, or it can happen from within with new leadership.
Let the season of whinging, bombast and oh yeah sailing begin!

Bringing J-24's back into the fold, expanding or introducing/encouraging more one design sailing (even dinghy sailing) in Eastchester Bay, expanding the Wed night series or just slapping a couple of ratings that invoke his ire?
Sad to see the continuing decline of the state of CI racing. Don't know if it's simply a reflection of broader national trends however good luck.

So what positive changes does Espo plan on invoking in the EBYRA?

Thanks btbotfa.Espo being involved at that level can only be good -I think he actually cares about the quality of what happens there on Eastchester Bay--used to be so competitive and a real crucible to learn in and now looked on as a bit of a joke--help them raise the bar John.
I have already secured a $500 sponsor from QUANTUM SAILS Long Island "Thank You Peter Sherman"
Working on another sponsor a local CI business.
Talking with the head ofa local Viper 640 class to hopefully get some sportboat racing on the scene for Wed nights.
This will be both fun and challenging, I just have to get some of the old timer dead heads involved to see where sailing is gone too, then I can make some progress.
It will be great to see Morris Y&B hoping on Wed nites with winning skippers, If I have anything to do with it!

Thinking about it
Will you be sailing your boat on Wednesday nights Espo?
Why not use Hustler to help train a whole lot of EBYRA people up to make them better. Put together a bunch of people who race together on Hustler and that you and a few other people teach in an honest, helpful way. Improve the level of the crew in the fleet so that the fleet itself gets better and more competitive. I'm sure you've got a lot to teach people so why not haul out a few old woodpile covers and kick some moderate ass but also help EBYRA in another way.

- The meat in the shite sandwich (in between 2 and 5)
- The port tacker with no clew, no reef and no crew

Gee, I only wanted what you did for Jeep back in the 90's, promised him the HYC rep spot if he quit Morris Yacht Club. From what I heard, John applied for an associate membership at the Harlem Yacht Club but wanted to make that membership conditional on being the HYC rep to EBYRA. There are many of us at HYC that think that the EBYRA needs to make some changes but we did not think that we should promise a spot on the EBYRA board as a condition of membership. One of the issues concerning EBYRA is that it is supposed to be an extension of the area clubs but some members of the Board have been more concerned with staying on the Board than representing a particular club or seeking guidance from their club. Promising someone that they would be the HYC rep if they would join didn't seem like a great way to turn this issue around.
If you don't believe me just ask him he boasted about it back then

~50 sec/mi delta between the next boat in the division might be the reasonI heard that they are trying to make Andiamo sail in her own division? WTF is up with that?
#47
Posted 07 May 2012 - 02:09 PM
i expect them to win every race, unless the breeze fills in- hah, yeah right
we raced against them last year for a couple, they would basically be finishing when we rounded the last mark. fast boat.

If you strip out the J/111 the ratings band in Div 6 is 33 sec/mile from fastest to slowest boat. With the J/111 it's 78 sec/mile. It's like a thoroughbred racing against donkey's. No disrespect to any of the other boats/skippers.
There was a fairly productive discussion about this at the EBYRA Skippers' Meeting last week but I'm not sure what the result ended up being. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

1. Give the 111 a neg provisional phrf rating?
2. Have them start after all the other classes?
I am not sure there is another way around it.
Sail safe!

Why doesnt KP do EBYRA anymore, they have 2 swan 42's they could send out there.

Based on the races he enters, he doesn't want to race on par with any other boat. The term "no talent hack" comes to mind.

WLIS PHRF has already given the 111 a 39, when everyone else gives it a 42.
Get the KP 42's out and make another division. Or just get Paul drunk before the race.
Or just force them to keep sailing with the bowguy they had on Sunday. Putting up the kite sideways twice should handicap them enough for the rest of the div to catch up.

Bravo EBYRA. 1st time I have ever seen scratch sheet from them that is based on rating only... usually much more political. Maybe a new mindset?
The problem with EBYRA is that the hack sailors from CIYC are like a bunch
of high maintenance cunts. Someone has got to explain to them that if
you're not good looking and don't give good head, no one is buying the high
maintenance attitude. In other words, "If you're a bunch of hack sailors,
STFU and learn how to sail." The only racing sailor they had was the "dick"
on Hustler and it seems he quit and joined the beach club down the road
along with the several other CIYC members over the past few years. Rumor
has it that CIYC is going to lose definitely one, possibly more, members to

Then it's probably good that they don't sail in EBYRA races.

No, I felt there was less current there with the tide ebbing, and looking at the flag pole at KP there looked like more pressure. When we got there and tacked we were lying the weather mark and looked great, for 5 minutes then we got knocked 15 degrees and then another 5. We didn't look so good after that. That is the first time I have ever seen boats go that far right heading to the J mark and make out. I guess luck pays off sometimes. The breeze was also a bit spotty on that leg and some times you have to roll the dice.
My other thought was that when TM went right to clear there air Whirlwind followed to cover and all the others just followed because that what they do every week follow the leader to the right. I am sure TM and Whirlwind are not paying to much attention to us, and for good reason, we are not sailing in the same breeze 5 minutes after the start If i were to do it all over again I would do exactly the same thing. I can't worry about thoe other boats when we owe the closest boat WW 45 sec per mile.
What boat were you on?

For some at least. We prefer the view from the back of the fleet.
