Spin Cup is 'overnight' only if you are in a 4ksb (like me).
Most if not all races have a shorthanded option (except Windjammers, I think.)
OYRA events are SH/DH or Crewed
SSS events are SH or DH only
The most fun is the SC and Monterey races I think. The schedule is pretty front loaded in the spring. You can do a partial set of the pre-July OYRA series as the Pac Cup Prep series.
Unfortunately, the OYRA does not include Spin Cup, Windjammers, or Coastal Cup in their season. But that is another topic I guess.
March
17 OYRA Lightship 1 (*Sponsored by YRA OYRA)
24 IYC DH Lightship
31 BAMA Doublehanded Farallones (*Sponsored by BAMA)
April
14 OYRA Full Crew Farallones (but has DH also)
28 OYRA Duxship (*Sponsored by YRA OYRA)
May
12 SSS Singlehanded Farallones Race
25 SFYC Spinnaker Cup (*Sponsored by SFYC/MPYC)
June
9-10 OYRA Drakes Bay (*Sponsored by YRA OYRA)
13 EYC Coastal Cup (*Sponsored by EYC)
25 OYRA Half Moon Bay
July
14 OYRA Jr. Waterhouse (*Sponsored by YRA OYRA)
August
11 OYRA SF Approach
25 SSS Half Moon Bay Race
31 Windjammers (SF to SC)
September
22 OYRA Southern Cross (*Sponsored by YRA OYRA)

- You have some good heavy kites
- You have some good downwind drivers
- And you have some good kids to bring the boat back

P_Wop, coastal cup and HI race are certainly on the docket for next few years, just not this one.
Keep coastal cup at the top of the list.
Pogen's right, ditch run isn't in an ocean-it's in a river. But it sure is fun. Do it

Thanks Pogen, so assuming you only had time for 3-5 events, what would be your favorites?
What's your time limitation? The calendar spreads out over 6 months. Also it makes a difference if you are full crew or not -- you do not say. I kind of like the ones that go somewhere -- SC or MRY or Drakes, or even HMB. Good party at the SSS HMB race last year! I haven't done Coastal Cup, bailed last year due to lack of crew and not wanting to deal with the delivery. This year our focus is on PacCup, which is another thing also.
There are plenty of people on here with more experience than me also.

probably look to do 1 or 2 double handed events and 3-4 fully crewed events.

Good luck with at time constraint. If its windy enough to get you there in a hurry, you're probably not going to get home until it blows out.Life is all time limitations I suppose. Only have so much time for sailing these days. Trying to allocate that time across team racing, match racing, buoy fleet racing, and hope to squeeze in a few offshore/coastal events, so fun is the name of the game. Have done the spinnaker cup, really like that the event is really only a 18-36hr ordeal round trip.

Lots of people were pinned down in SC waiting for the 35kts on the nose to abate.

I'm a Pac Cup vet who has been on the podium 2 out of 2 times (1st in '06; 3rd in '08)and am looking for a ride this year. Any crew needs? Are you taking the 36.7?

Yeah it took me 4 days to get home SH from MRY the last Spin Cup - I chose to add an extra day in HMB to sleep, rather than push through the night and be a zombie the next day.![]()

That is the nice thing about having a trailerable boat..60 mph head winds..

DH Farralons
Duxship
Spin Cup
Windjammers
Any thoughts? Spin Cup and Windjammers might be too similar?

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm well aware of the schedule and the Bay Area scene. Point of the post was more to figure out what events people most enjoy. More a poll of what 4 or 5 would you choose. Coastal cup is out this year, just too much time and money. Schedule I was thinking of was:
DH Farralons
Duxship
Spin Cup
Windjammers
Any thoughts? Spin Cup and Windjammers might be too similar?
Here's a link to DHF
Deadline is March 28st which requires boat pic, epirb registration, crew info etc.
Price goes up after the 21st I think
