Well done to Sam and his team for a win yesterday it was an interesting day with light and consistent breese for 70% of the race, we found the first hole in which Zippier were able to take advantage of and took the lead around the last mark, on the final leg we found another hole and the rest of the fleet sailed up to us and Zippier and then the breese came in just enough for us both to stay out in front and then once we finished there was a total glass out with half of the fleet not finished so it was a tough day at the office. The breese is up for today currently 20 to 25 kts and about 12'c Yum

Sounds like a great day today, but 12 degrees your all bloody mad! 83 can you write a decent story for Mr clean? Or encourage a few others to put in snippets and I will try and put it all together for a Front page Anarchy story. Maybe if highlights can be provided and I write it you can pass it around and make sure it is a true representation of the racing before clean posts it on the front page! Thoughts???

I will try and put it all together for a Front page Anarchy story.

you should join the association or Bellerive Yacht Club before you start talking for them, they should be given the right of their own publicity

Cleans recent history 'Front Paging' Aussie event news from Third party or Unauthorised sources is not what an org would risk

I'm assuming you are aware?
------------

now theres an idea he could do something on your boat sports 8 XX and building plans, it being the fastest ever, or even something from your racing/club ?

Mate just trying to help and as suggested I could forward the collation of feedback to someone down there..Forget it! It is all too hard.

Curious rig mods for Go Majik. Following the RL24 style of high aspect mainsail, with the spider 22 style of cut down headsail, and no bow pole. Thats a lot of unused boom. It'd be good to get some thoughts on how that worked for them in the light. Were there restrictions in this race in relation to changing mainsails ?

Ummm, spend a bit of time in the ASBA proposal thread, see how well it's worked for them. That is their standard main.

Sportboats are a rating rule so measured main has to be used unless you bolt a smaller one on!

I say rating rule loosly, if you make your boat rate well, you will be banned!

race 5 Kaito, tickety boo then Blokes World
Race 6 Tickety boo, blokes world then Monkey Business

Good day for Tickety boo` as lickety split holds third overall only a few points ahead of Tickety boo. There looks to be a race now for Third and first with Blokes World just one point ahead of Kaito.

PHS has it first Tickety boo from Blokes world and Monkey business.

Still 1 race to go today so check back later.

WindsWest to northwesterly 10 to 20 knots, possibly 25 knots at times during the early evening.Seas0.5 to 1 metres.

Monday 9 April
No wind warning for Monday for Derwent Estuary
WindsWest to southwesterly 10 to 15 knots tending south to southwesterly 15 to 20 knots around midday.SeasUp to to 1 metre increasing to 1.5 metres around midday.

Weather Situation
A cold front will cross Tasmania during the evening bringing a colder southwesterly change. A low to the southeast will combine with a strong high south of the Bight to maintain a cold south to southwesterly flow across the state through Monday which should ease on Tuesday as the high moves closer. The high is then expected to move slowly to the north of Tasmania during Wednesday and Thursday maintaining a westerly airflow.

Saw a couple of awesome wipeouts today.
Top Gear managed to bowl out with the keel on the wrong side and seemed to stay down for a good couple of minutes.
The tip of their rig was well and truly under water.
Go Magik showed the keel off a couple of times as well.
A couple of Shaws were showing off thier bulbs at times.

Tazj, thanks for the pics, great job!

Here's hoping there is a managable breese down there today for the guys to get 3 good races in, no gale but still cold by look of it!

Qld boat to win, magic a bit like anthrax, all false hype and fear!

You wont belive the weather up on morreton bay today, 10knots, no cloud and 30degs!

Good luck guys!

With one race to go Blokes World has a 2 point buffer over Kaito! With the 3 Shaws a further 9, 11 &17 points behind!

Good luck Blokes World & go Queensland.

Who would have thought, 4 light boats and a M24 in the top 5. Looks like a great series, drive carefully home!

Big wipeout for blokes world near the finish of last race. DNF I think.

2 races today.

31 knots max recorded, but more breeze up the course I'd say.

No. That wipeout pictured was in the first race today. In the second race it started in about 5 knots then built. We started with new #1 heady. Fast off the line, crossed in front of BW. Think we were in front of them at mark 1. Didn't look like they had broken anything at that stage but had just lost out in the shifts. We tore the masthead on the drop. Then on the 2nd work the breeze built to 30. We'd already broken battens in both our #2's and didn't want to destroy the #1 so went home. Nothing (more) to lose.

So, in a nutshell, we didn't see what happened to BW.

On behalf of all Tasmanians I'd like to apologise for the weather (and I never normally do). That was not normal Hobart Easter weather. Certainly destroyed our game-plan.

But congrats to Kaito. Two kids and a local teenager on board plus Heath, Darren etc freezing their nuts off. Commiserations to Brett and the BW team but above all bad luck to Sam who sailed a brilliant regatta in a new boat. He had no local advantage. The Tamar and Derwent are much further apart than Boags and Cascade!

First few pics showed the assy still set, dragging the mast down, the keel down, and the bulb intact. The last shot has a wave in the way, but looks like either the keel retracted, or the bulb fell off...

Bad gybe and they went in! Not in the hunt in the last day apparently, Kaito was the better sailed boat on the day and the results showed that. Impressed by the Kaito crew in the tuff conditions.
They spent some time on their side balancing they boat "skiff" style trying to get the chute in and sails down!According to BW crew!
All good there off on a weeks holiday in Tassie now!!

BW broke their rudder, deliberately kept the boat on the side whilst dropping sail and gathering kite.

yeah in the photos you can clearly see crew out on the mast area holding it down

dunno barney, WHERE WAS Blokes relative to the (line honours) Zippier before the breakage, they had the necessary Time break ...

and then some

I reckon BW had it

Kaito stepped up to the task in hard conditions hey, bullets on the latter 3 (of 4) days kinda telling

Okie

all BW had to do ( given K scored 3rd) was beat the 4th paced boat on corrected time
No easy task as she was apprx 5 min behind at the completion of an earlier lap ( according to photo data)

exif data on james photos ( they are in time sequence ) shows they were on track somewhere between 1:30 & 2:30 mins behind Z and similarly ahead of 2nd place MC

(MC 4:19 behind Z at finish, race data not photo)

very close

original 'date & time' photo data has appropriate shots, Z finishing, BW in the water, MC finishing w/ BW splashed in the background

& oh yeah, bloody 'awsome race' to Zip ( the double!) and Mustard Cutter

Blokes World were the stand out classy sailors every day except the last day, I suspect they didn't eat their Vegemite.

They finished several minutes ahead of 2nd place in most races, with a max gap of about 7 minutes in one race.
Everything Blokes World did was close to perfect on the first 3 days, I only spotted one sloppy kite drop, but even that was no worse than the average drop for the fleet. On the last day they were struggling by their standards, perhaps they had equipment issues well before the wipeout.

In the first race of the day they were only one second ahead of Kaito (who had a brilliant day)

Zippier zipped everything together on the last day from my point of view.
For the record the course was shorter than every other day.

I didnt see the first race of the last day but did manage to watch the last race.
Blokes World had a shocker of a start and Zippier & Mustard Cutter made massive gains on the left hand side of the course.
Blokes World did make up a huge amount before the rudder went.

The boys on BW said they kept it on its side to get the sails down so they didnt flog themselves apart with no reliable way of steering away to keep the rig pointing the right way.
Once the rudder went it was all about boat preservation.

It's Fred Barrett's FBYD 6.4. He broke the rig in the States a month ago so decided to cut the cabin top off while he was at it. Great job to get it finished in time and the rig tune is great as it seems a lot faster. It does look a lot different with the flush deck. We've been ribbing him about his Not Sure 640.

Trev, Fred designed the flashy very pro Van Munster-built GP 26 prior to this sportsboat, similar to what Jim Donovan did ( GP26 >> 20somethin SB)

6.4 appears to share a bit of a FB signature look, if taking the GP into account

Brett sailed with Freddo at the Nats but pretty sure the 6.4 was drawn well before the GP26. The drawings were on the wall at the Hood loft in Hobart in 2006 if I recall correctly.
