Airlie Beach Race Week 2012

Sportboats urged get entries in as there is a push for our own pens again like last year!
4 signed up allready!
"Airlie Beach Race Week 2012 is the 23rd annual regatta at this Whitsunday gateway.
This year's regatta dates are August 10th to 16th and the organising authority is the Whitsunday Sailing Club.
The Notice of Race is now able to download from the event website at www.airliebeachraceweek.com.au and online entries are now being accepted.
As Abel Point Marina is in receivership there has been a change in arrangements.
Whitsunday Sailing Club Commodore Rob Davis explained The Airlie Beach Race Week entry fee has traditionally included Abel Point marina berthing but not this year.
The flat entrance fee has been reduced. Competitors will now need to book directly with Abel Point Marina to secure their berth.
We have negotiated discounts for Race Week competitors as we recognise this is a difficult transition year for the Marina receivers.
A Free bus service will be provided from the Marina to the Whitsunday Sailing Club festivities and parties, which will all be held at the Whitsunday Sailing Club this year.'
Davis continued We would normally have had our entries open earlier. Our apologies for the lateness of this notification but we do urge entrants to call Abel Point Marina as soon as possible to make their berth bookings.
We appreciate the keenness of everyone involved to continue the long and harmonious relationship between the event and the marina operators.
We look forward to competitors being able to berth at Port of Airlie, close to the Whitsunday Sailing Club, possibly as soon as 2013.'
For Notice of Race and online entry go to www.airliebeachraceweek.com.au "

Wonder what they will do with the sport boats will Abel point Marina allocate a pen ? Do you need to make sure you get a berth before you enter ?
The recievers have been complete pricks about the whole event, but it's still the same girls in the office and they have to live here once the bean counters are gone. So the girls have been worded up and will do their best to get a similar result on berthing as last year.

If you are more than 50% going, please enter now so we can get the allocation as right as possible and also the cheapest berthing. Entry fee can be paid at the event or in the first week of August & if you can't make it, you are not out of pocket. 8 boats entered so far. Big fleet of 25 expected.

That's not as silly as it sounds. Anywhere we can leave our keel cranes semi-securely at a pier closer to WSC so we can wind-up each day and go in to the club? Not much point being at Abel Point if the regatta's not based there.Thats why we have lifting keels my friend

It may be possible for sports boats to moor up at the new marina just behind WSC. I cant remember what its called? Port of Airlie? It might be worth asking the question. Last time I was there they were also in receivership (Meridian owned it too), although it looked as though they were getting bought out so may be possible, anyone on here from WSC???

It was great having a tent set up on the headland in front of the club and the facilities were pretty good. Launching the boat in front of the WSC resulted in less time between the boat and bar and the tent meant a short walk from bar to bed.

ASBA has struck a deal of sorts with the marina mob so aproach them if still thinking of entering, all the sportboats should end up in one area, not slotted in amongst all the cruisers!
And the 40 pounder Rum bets are starting to flow!
The Magoo has one down with the new Raptor, whilst Mark B was being fed his quoter of Rum last night, we talked him into a 40 pounder bet, the 1st of us to Cone island on day 1 !
Ahhhhh Magoo, its like taking candy from a baby!

Magoo crossed every boat except raptor and kaito i think at some stage, but wind coming in from behind and way righter than we were made catch up a bit harder! 15 + knots of wind eventually came in for a quick ride to cone island! A bloody shaw and a leech beat the T7 in a reach to cone, the shame!
Well we know Raptors weaknessess now, its on!
3 W/L races today!

Take advantage of the light Turks and put a T7 on the podium.Breeze is supposed to start dying through out tomorrow for the rest of the week! See what that brings, keep in mind the lightest race today was the biggest winning margin, with the supposed wrong 'small' heady up! Not looking good for the rest of the fleet!

Doing 3/4 of a turn waiting for a bit then finishing off the first turn at the start thinking you have completed your penalty only to have other boats letting them know that it is a 2 turn penalty and then not doing the second turn until towards the top mark is not very good form when you are totally dominating the fleet.
Anyway great boat with truck loads of horse power.
The Blokes World is praying for big breese and the Magoo is praying for no breese so we will se who gets their wish.

"Sports Boats Series leader Raptor, Mark Buchbach's Stealth, looked impressive with the hard working crew constantly talking to each other and shifting their weight around the boat, making the best of the conditions. Bob Cowan's Stealthy and Brett Whitbread's Blokes World followed, both tacking into Pioneer Point.
Vitesse, the Melges 24 skippered by David Farrimond, lost her rudder near the top mark and drifted back into the beach. She made emergency repairs and returned to the marina. No one was injured in the mishap. "

What sort of shit is this, it says nothing and your find out nothing about what happened in the race. Surely you guys can help us out
"Sports Boats Series leader Raptor, Mark Buchbach's Stealth, looked impressive with the hard working crew constantly talking to each other and shifting their weight around the boat, making the best of the conditions.
Yeah wait till next week .......... 'celebrity chef update, fashion report, wine tasting' .............. oh fuck sailing, yeah I think there's a bit of that.

Thankfully all boat damage is superficial and only our pride was dented, another ABRW done and another sailing lesson learnt!

Goggles wins the most consistent award with only 4 places between his best and worst places
Sailing a clean race isnt whats needed anymore!
The more fuck ups during the race, the further you win by! For some!
Dont belive what you read in the papers!
Ha ha ha ha ha, Last W/L today we got hosed by a minute by a much better sailed boat that started a minute late, nearly fell over, put the shute in the tide and had to re round the bottom mark! Go figure!
Its a farce!
Weather is still nice, 15 knots most races, but real shifty this year, not the same not being from the marina, and cause of it numbers are down in the beer tent when crews bother to turn up.

Maybe that crew were hard working constantly talking to each other and shifting their weight around the boat, making the best of the conditions.
Where is the beer tent compared to where the boats are

Club is as allways doing a great job, but the marina in receivership just threw a little spanner in the works!

oh
jungle drums are saying you had a meltdown under the pressure
Yeah so much pressure!
Mathmatically impossible to gain a spot or lose one on the last day, and with ramp issues at low tide was an easy decision.
gave us time to put the boat on the market!

Can you include evil symmetricalsI think we start the RSL division. Redundant Sportsboat League, where boat weight is not heavily penalised and esky size offset to handicaps

Look its none of my business which way you swing your pole but if it means more boats are on the start line then all would be welcome at the RSL

Don't mention the chance of Turks getting a root.

Whilst on our round oz trip we realise at this stage the kids are more important. Def not to update. We love the old girl, she might just sit in the shed yet!!!Why are you selling Barman? updating?
Great Bang For Buck fella. A few cheap ones around, like mine.
Hey Barman, us being ex A10 sailors ( after 19 years), thanks to GFC and various other financial calamities, thinking E7 is the way to go,What is your thoughts re the E7 to do just a few regatta's a year , lack of time and money being the main criteria. cheers
I wish we were there slapped, oh hang on, E7 are banned! There is no way we could sail to fast pace of the mighty sports boats though. Way out of our League. I'm sure with the appropriate donation to the the cause, you will be welcome back to CBH fella. Good luck the rest of the series, can you enlighten us to the forecast?1344685814[/url]' post='3821258']
The results show, only 1 boat is being sailed correctly!
Who would of thought eh!![]()
The end of the world is nigh!
In other news! Weather has been fine, cold at nights, and the Rum still flows and there is backpackers here this year!
