I am still undecided on indigenous communities hunting them, ditto for the dugong.

could you ask the whales to stay out of the way while you're at it dreads

nothing like belting along and seeing a pod bearing 001 going fast in your opposite direction. while yer at it could you ask them to stop doing that surface alongside the cockpit and blow stinky whale breath off the back of a sail in the middle of a pitch black night.

and that whole jump out of the water like a mack truck across the bow of something smaller than they are....that one has to go too.

Love seeing them out there...happy to maneuver around them as much as is possible. It's a fairly decent migration again this year. So far very high numbers...could be a record? Up and down this coast for 100 miles either way they were a rare rare sight in the 70's. There's even Killers again now....been a while. Southern Rights up big time. Dunno about the Minke's or Dugong but that's about sea grass. Not native hunting

Yep diplomacy has helped control, but environmental terrorism will help stop it.

Yes, as a diver who has done a bit of travelling I have seen it first hand. AWARE has had a big campaign on ray and shark fining for several years.

You called me a liar when I said that the slang term "wife beater" is used in Australia, even when I provided references.

I've still yet to hear it in the Australian vernacular. I would never use it. You can if you like, that's up to you.

We're becoming too Americanised as it is, proliferate it if you like.

Did you know Mantas were hunted for their gills? It's not finning.

I don't believe it is australian slang term. I have never heard it in general conversation. And honestly, due to the job you do, I'm sure you've seen the result of said slang. It's poor form Dreads. And I doubt you'd use it as 'slang' anywhere else other than SA

I mentioned dugongs, only because there has been a push for indigenous communities to have the right to kill a quota of dugong and turtles.

Once again: I don't use it or like it. But as I said previously upon returning to Australia in 2009 I heard the term used on many occasions. Last time this was discussed I produced a link to Aussie slang terms which listed "wife beater" as an American term that was gaining usage in Australia. Can't be fucked googling it again.

Bob, even in your thiamine deficient VB marinated brain you know there is a difference between slang (offensive as it may be) and downright racist. I get that you have trouble spelling, so let me stop you before you Korsakoff's syndrome causes you to confabulate further.

If you care to scroll back you will see I said I am not sure. I acknowledge indigenous culture and history, my concern stems from the dwindled dugong population due to decimated sea grasses and recreational boating etc.

The local Makah do a bit of traditional whale hunting.

A few years ago, they were doing their "first in a long time" hunt, and some protesters were harrasing them.

There was very clear helicopter video of the protesters running over a whale in their RIB.

My point was just this, that politicians and whaling commissions have set a quota. I, like greenpeace and sea shepherd believe there should be no killing of whales. So here is where the problem lies. Do we trust the Japanese to only take their agreed quota or just say fuck you, leave em alone? I am fairly in the fuck off and leave them alone side. I am still undecided on indigenous communities hunting them, ditto for the dugong.

We're about thirty some years into ocean activism. Before they went mainstream, Greenpeace used to fuck with the whalers like mad, and they were far more hated than Sea Shepherd.

Sea Shepherd gets to go after poachers (rather than whalers) because of the open ocean anarchy that Greenpeace delivered decades ago, which then put the need for whale conservation onto the U.N.'s radar.

Sure, diplomacy codified the rules of conservation. But it's the height of historical revision to suggest that there would have even been diplomacy without maniac anarchists in RIBs putting themselves between harpoon guns and animals because they so deeply believed that whales were worth saving.

Greenpeace got out of that business model because their own success put then in a place where they could make more money for their nonprofit by being less controversial. But back in the day? Crap, those Rainbow Warriors made the Sea Shepherd crew look like a gaggle of accountants in comparison.

Aside ... my wife calls them wife beaters without any irony, it's just what that are. They're called wife beaters, like egg beaters, they whip the wives into a frenzy when they see us in all of our hairy, sweaty, stinking glory. We don't beat our wives, we just prefer clothing that makes us look like we still have that option.

In fact, whale the Makah killed demonstrated that the Tribe's members didn't care for the taste; most of it rotted on the beach, and some meat was distributed illegally, even across the Canadian border.

"By SAM HOWE VERHOVEK
NEAH BAY, Wash. -- Some jubilant Makah Indians feasted on the blubber and raw whale meat and declared themselves spiritually transported back in time. Others spat the meat out onto the beach or struggled to wash it down with that most traditional of beverages, Coca-Cola."

I wonder what smoked whale jerky tastes like....euhhh!

Wife beater is slang, I appreciate you don't like it, not a fan of it myself as I have said on numerous ocassions. But you are a cock smoker if you continue to deny it, you can google it, but i will post a link to help you, like I did last time:

Agree 100% Grumps.

Having been to Malaysia now and seen the palm oil for myself, its a bit closer to home.
There was a good show on Aussie TV a few nights ago about the myth of palm oil and additives to petrol.
What a joke.

Should be stopped.
We wont use anything with palm oil in it now.
