Will Scott Babbage finally get a 1 on his sail? How many Europeans, Yanks or others can squeeze an Aussie or Kiwi out of the top 10?

My Form Guide
I doubt the euros or poms have a chance but maybe if it's light they may go okay.
I think the yanks will be a lot better this year as they have an aussie or 2 to train with, so now from the out side at least they have a good core group to train with and should battle it out in the top 5.
The aussies + a kiwi no longer have so much group training plus some are tied up with olympic campaigns so who knows if they will even be there. If Nathan & pete turn up I reckon they will win races but not sure about the regatta. Scott and Rob should be right up there plus probably last years runner Joe if he is training hard over in WA.
Expect amac to pass all the contenders like they are anchored at some stage during the regatta.
Whether the finish is up or down wind could also be a key factor.

Or you could look at who's been doing what on the water, what the specific conditions expected in campione at the end of august are likely to mean to the individual competitors etc etc etc
or we could save a lot of time and say it's going to be a professional sailor from a country where everything that moves can, and probably will, kill you.
RIght, that's that sorted. Now we can all get back to the VORG which her indoors loves so much

Of the Aus mothies attending the top scorers at the Mornington Nationals will have to be top picks. Rob Gough, Scott Babbage, AMAC for starters. But there will be about another 15 AUS boats attending so the competition will be tough.

I'd agree with that. Especially bearing in mind that 12th place at the Belmont worlds couldn't get into the top 5 at the Europeans last summer I'd say there should be a few european sailors in the mix...
The sailor in question finished 7th at the recent nsw states that only featured Babbage from the belmont top 10. Also from blogs it appears (you would know better than me though) that simon payne is right on the pace in breezy conditionsover there, at belmont he wasn't that quick in breeze so does this mean if it's windy the Europeans will struggle?

if it's windy the Europeans will struggle?
Probably! Thankfully We're not going back to Torbole and I think conditions will be a good mix so hopefully everyone will have their day.

I can only agree with that. Have done some DIV II training in the old days in Campione, about same time and at other times. It had never been really windy. Just a nice breeze around 4 Bft. Not much waves. The kiters, which you see on photos are benefitting from the wind channeled down the canyon in Campione. A nice hiking track.
My bet is on the English, Simon and Chris leading the pack with Peter B. having a word too. Amac with some "secret developments" and a rowdy to save energy on shore, might be in for a surprise. Scott might spoil the Brits party at the front end. As GSJ said, there is not enough information available to write up a proposed ranking. Nobody seems to reveal his form nor technical developments in a blog these days.
Smooth sailing!

Unfortunately I can't imagine that many people will be weighing their boats down with significant amounts of graphics
....how are developments going in this aspect of the event?
...some significant prizes for the midfleeter who does!
....could come down to adding a single stripe across the sail

awwwright,,one more,,and there's a 'race'
...kuuudos to th'folks at ZEEK** for their efforts/sponsorships in the sailing world
...as much as sailors try to 'anonymize' their boats on the startline,
,,,this'll add some flair to the fleet if it gains some traction,,
,,and boats/sailors will become a bit more identifiable for us armchair sailors
**sorry for the 'typo',,,I'll fix-it if yer send a big sticker and some swag for my 'couch'

Not many entries yet, nearly half from AUS. entries 28th may, Only 5 GBR and no USA?
Seems Europe's mothies are as slack as they are everywhere when it comes to paperwork.
Obviously it is the list from May 28th and it is not possible to get the latest one from the WC Website. If you are able to detect an actual list, I would appreciate it.
Cheers

Can you encourage the organisers to put up a current list? Hard to run a book when you don't know who's running! We had similar late rush of entries for Belmont and ended up with 110. I think the Europeans may top this number at Campioni.
Glad to see someone's having a go at Mothapalooza, hope it's on at next one too, it'll give me a chance to win something other than the wooden spoon. At Belmont, the only way my friends at Coal Point could tell me apart from the crowd was by the lime green cuffs of my wetsuit.

Up to 47 entries this week, and I know of another 8 Australians not yet listed.
Entries at 28th June
Only one USA entry? Surely the Yanks are coming!
BTW, how many will be using the new MSL16? Where does it fit with the 10 and 13?

68 competitors now, just over a month to go.
Only 2 yanks? Perhaps there'll be a late rush?
Absolutely no wing news, perhaps Bora has kept a class legal, noslots wing under wraps? Appart from the durability issues, the last one did pretty well at Belmont. Smoother lake water might suit it better.

No Japanese either and I saw this on Facebook today, 31.4 knots. Top speed record territory I think?
I am always a bit sceptical about believing top speeds ondisplays only, after all I've seen some that have said 33-34 but on the tracksthey didn't check out and were "just" on 30. Especially when there is a large difference between peak and max. Never the less I am sure he was going bloody fast.
I am sure many contenders have been trialling various techon rigs, foils & aero. Whether any has proven fast enough to be confident onusing it is another thing.

Also some of our mothies are doing quite well in England this week.
Moth World Champ and twice AUS champ Nathan Outteridge wrapped up the 49er Gold last night (Our Time), along with sometime mothing mate Ian Jenson (9th last WC), Their part other time mothing mate Tom Slingsby (7th last WC) won the laser Gold as well. With past AUS moth champ Matt Belcher leading the 470s it makes us feel proud. Unfortunatley none of these will be at Garda due to AUS Olympic team commitments,
But New Zealand's Silver medal 49er winner Peter Burling (4th last WC) will be racing at Garda and no doubt recieving hearty congratualtions form the worlds Mothies.

If the breeze blows, Bora wins. No crew to melt down for this one and he will be enjoying himself, which is when he does well.
Gough second
Babbage third
Then again, the biggest breeze they saw in Garda last week was 18 knots in August...that's not the Garda i know.

So that's (L to R) Scott, Rob Gough and Josh McKnight. The first two are certainly top 5 and overall contenders, Josh should make the top 10.These guys are going pretty well...
Are the US sailors outsiders for this one?
What news of the Europeans? If it's light, I'm sure a few of then will do very well, and don't forget the rocket from SYC!
