Awesome!!!!! The SSS guys are indeed a tight group. I did two SSS events in the SF Bay for fun and really enjoyed the dinner and discussing the SSS related challenges getting boat systems set up so the single handed efforts are workable etc.

NICE FING JOB Ronnie!!! The decision Derk had to make is one of the worst decisions any sailor makes even more so when it is their home they must leave! No doubt about it both you and Ruben deserve a big big thank you from all of us given I would want the same effort done for me if I ever faced leaving my boat adrift and knowing my fellow sailors would do all they could to recover the boat for me.

Enjoy the Island!!! Major Respect!!! AGain!!!

And another THANK YOU to the Guys for the grab - probably nobody in the Islands will say it, so THANK YOU for not letting yet ANOTHER boat come to grief on our shores.

Great work, everyone involved & especially to the 2 guys that climbed aboard.

Nice work everyone involved...whether an active or $$ participant. I am sure Derek appreciates it, & hopefully his illness is under control.

Awesome effort by the west coast short handed community. Hats off to those who made the arrangements, and to those that executed.

JumpingJax! This is Alex Mehran from Truth here.

I just read your nice posts. I should take you out sailing sometime - I am pretty sure I could make you wet your pants in short order. Handling a 300 square meter spinnaker on your own is a little different than sailing your Catalina on the Chesapeake.

You sound like someone who sits behind a computer a lot so a piece of advice. Sit down and think of something you think you can't do, spend years of your life training until you think you are ready, do it and see how you feel when you finish. These stupid chat rooms wont matter so much to you after that.

And change that stupid handle.

OK, time to pick your favorites:

Alex Mehran on Truth will find the race highly rewarding, no doubt.
It's always super to triumph over the lame, the weak, the halt. To the victor go the spoils! If you charter a boat to race, always hold out for a performance level that can't be matched by anyone else in the race. Got to go a long way if you want to beat an Alberg 30!

I don't get it. Were there supposed to be other boats competitive with the Open 50 in the race? Did they score a dns? Was he jilted and left at the altar? How is this fun? I guess it looks good on the resume if he tries to go pro and apply for an AC or VOR-65 berth. Team managers for those efforts won't know any better. They'll be greatly impressed that he beat a Vindo 31 and a Triton. WTF? Even the "Fast and Fun" group isn't in his league, so again, WTF?

Yeah, I know, sailing half-way across the Pacific single handed is quite an accomplishment. And the bigger the boat, the harder it is to do, most times. But then again, it's always a lot easier on a boat designed, built and equipped, right from a clean sheet of paper, to be a short-handed racer. So in many ways, Mr. Mehran will have an easier time of it than others in the race. It would be a disgrace if he is not first to finish in the fleet. It would be a joke if he isn't first overall on corrected time, whatever weather is given and whatever measurement is being used in the "race." But, of course, he will be last in his class. Except that he has no class.

Don't let JumpingJax get to you, Alex. He's just a jealous tool and the real sailors on here shut him down pretty well. You sailed a fantastic race and it was fun to watch the miles disappear so quickly under Truth's keel. (Now, if you want to share that boat ride sometime I promise to try and not pee my pants!)
