First being in Chicago you have a height problem if you leave the keel on as on a double drop, or a boat trailer you will be over 13' 6". The width isn't any problem as you can just permit it ..the height is going to be a problem... You won't need an escort unless it is over 14' 4" in Iowa, if you are you Need an escort. As for Nebraska your ok all the way across for anything less than 15'. Wyoming is a piece of cake. Utah you have a low bridge on 80 by Coalville. Fast lane you can be about 14' 6" if I remember. On hwy 15 south of Salt lake is a 14'5" overpass. And are fine through. Arizona and Nevada..don't really know about California.. So you need to be as low as you can..double drop trailers are about 20" to deck height.. Boat trailers are lower a little... Maybe 18". You need to get how high you are on the cradle and add the deck height for your overall height. On a boat trailer I know like for the Olson 30s are about 14"..from where the keel sits to ground.. Don't forget a cradle will add unneeded height.. And less than 14'4" will save you about 400 bucks just for the escort in Iowa...hope that gives you an idea what will be required .. As for trailers.. There is a company in Ohio that builds boat trailers..if you want I can give you their phone number, see if they need one ferried to the west coast...transport their trailer with your boat..best of luck with your venture..just remember height is not you friend.
