Smartalecky MD. She supports Obamacare. Proof positive we should have never allowed them to vote, get an education, or drive. Perhaps the Taliban was correct?

Sarah Kliff: What does the Supreme Court ruling mean for the AMA and the doctors you represent?

Ardis Hoven: The AMA has supported the health reform law since its inception. Our history is such that we have supported covering the uninsured along with an individual responsibility provision. This comes from the work we’re doing every day, seeing patients. For us it means millions of the uninsured will have insurance coverage.

The AMA is a union/advocacy group representing about 30% of doctors in the US.

From way back when (2009). http://www.politico....roup_split.html

AMA doesn't speak for all DRs, and has been losing members since Obamacare got passed.

"By upholding the Affordable Care Act, the Supreme Court has ensured that all Americans have access to affordable, sustainable health care coverage and that they receive high-quality, coordinated and efficient care," said Stream. "It is a future that family physicians happily anticipate."

The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) is one of the largest national medical organizations, representing 105,900 family physicians, family medicine residents, and medical students nationwide. Founded in 1947, its mission has been to preserve and promote the science and art of family medicine and to ensure high-quality, cost-effective health care for patients of all ages.

Tell me how the act makes healthcare affordable. What these tell me is that doctors are happy that they will have fewer bad debts or charity cases.

That hath the ring of truth, but physicians do skew left.

Name the one industrialize nation in the world in which 40% of their citizens use the ER for family practice. In MA, only 2% of citizens are uninsured, 6 years after Romneycare. Hard to argue with data and facts....unless you're a Teasipper, huh?

Never claimed to be an expert, but I probably have more of a backround with medical care than you do. She dances around the shortage of MDs in the US, and how Obamacare reduces the incentives for becoming one. The way I see it, we'll be losing more MDs due to retirement than gaining thru schools. Between the high cost of training for the medical field and the lower payments per patient, there will less incentive to enter the field. I'm willing to bet that between student loan and malpractice insurance costs, a new MD nets less income than a computer programmer the same age.

Almost true JB, but not quite. I'm a programmer and wife's a doctor. Close, but she brings in more than I on our annual 1040

Wait 5 years when Obamacare is fully implemented.

What's the ER utilization rate in MA?

Bingo, I not only live in MA, I work in emergency medical care, both in the field and in a hospital ER. Romneycare has done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to resolve the issue of people showing up at the ER for the stupidest of things. In fact, I would venture and experienced, educated guess that it has made things worse. The wonderful "universal coverage" we have here just means that people can show up without worrying about the bill at all. You be absolutely shocked to see how many people are on Masshealth (the state-subsidized health plan).

MA also now has the highest private insurance family rates in the country, thanks to universal coverage. Why? Because the low reimbursement rates of public insurance means providers cost-shift onto private payers to offset their losses incurred treating publicly-insured patients.

Craig is correct in that we do have some excellent hospitals and medical people here in MA. But this is not because of our stupid Romneycare, it is in spite of it. Mass General was a world-renown five-star hospital long before Romney came along.

I'm still waiting for an simple, logical explanation of exactly how "universal coverage" lowers overall healthcare costs.

The fact alone doesn't, but a comprehensive reform, which gives someone the ability to control costs, that is, apply downward pressure on demand (conservative) or increase purchasing power and restrict utilization (liberal) would.

Anybody notice Nanny has been strangely absent lately? Did his head explode the day of the ruling, maybe?
