I'll see if I can dredge up some ammo for this thing.
I'm probably close enough to make it a day trip.

So I apologize about that douchy post, I get annoyed when being a black belt is made to be a big deal, most places you go and pay a couple hundo, take classes for 2 years, and you're handed a belt. Rant over.
um, yeah. Course he is a Marine not a Tiger Schulman student, and really I was just trying to give you a heads up. She is a big girl and can take care of herself, I did it right raising her the first 22 years and don't need to spend a lot of time worrying about the next 50 or however long I am around for. Anyways, apology accepted.

Maybe while you are all together, you'll pick another weekend...late winter or early spring, maybe?
Anyway, have a blast, and don't hurt each other!

Shoot me a PM if you would like to do some mountain lake sailing in October, it is pretty hard to beat when the leaves are changing.

It is a shame you can't make it this year. If people enjoy it, I would not mind hosting it as a bi-annual event. March/April and Sept/October.

ooohh....that is an awesome offer....I will get back to you on it. Will check the calendar to see when we are free in October...we do a lot of Civil War re-enacting on weekends.
Where do you sail? Lake Wallenpaupack?

Yep, good old Lake Wally. October is my favorite time to sail there. The wind is better, the scenery unbeatable, and not a water skier or jetski in sight.

Hoping that you're planning to do this again! I would love to join you to shoot holes in some targets, but cannot make it that weekend.

Oh jeez ... spoil sport. I thought this weekend was going to be about accidents.
You know ... like me absentmindledly firing at Kevin while he's re-setting my target ... or turning around and looking at everyone through the sight of a loaded weapon with my finger on the trigger and safety off ... or ... well, maybe not.
Oh - Kevin dear - I was just joking about using you for target practice. Honest!

Would you be ok if my son attended? He's done the Connecticut spring dinghy race a couple of years ago. He's also attended a bunch of camp/ shoot weekends and will be 16 at the end of November. It would also be dependent upon his homework situation.

Ok definitely in - by your leave coming up Friday evening or Saturday morning. Depending on desires have enough stuff both Black powder and modern for some fun.

Excellent, looks like we will have quite the variety of firearms. Not a problem at all with you bringing your son up, after all most of us are just overgrown kids anyway. Let me know if you need directions or anything else. I just got back from picking up the fireworks for post bbq, and let's just say it was a good thing I brough the Tahoe.

I can also bring a decent spotting scope to minimize the trips downrange and a good chronograph.
Anybody wanna play with a cap'n'ball Walker Colt? Or the crossbow?
Chime in!

Ok my lineup will probably be a 338-378 Weatherby, a Marlin 45-70 CS, a 12 gauge 870 slug gun ( just put a new scope on it, have to sight it in) a .54 Lyman Hawken replica. The boy will probably bring his slug gun and a Winchester 70 in 30-06 and his Hawken. A .44 mag will fill out the roster - have to practice with it.

Very cool. I have been thinking about getting a bow, so would welcome a chance to try that crossbow. Which .44 do you have? I have a Redhawk with the 7 1/2" barrel that I will be bringing. I have a Ruger #1 and a Remington 700 both in .243, along with a Savage 110 in 7mm Remington Magnum. My son is building a new AR, hopefully the rest of the parts come in before the 15th. Some miscellaneous other stuff, a mosin nagant, 1851 Colt revolver replica (still have not shot this), some rimfire toys, an Ithaca 37 Americana, HR break top .223, I think that is most of it. As you can probably tell, I am partial to bolt actions.

Hopefully none of you all get busted for transporting guns across state lines.
The Firearms Owners Protection Act of 1986 ensured that will not be a problem, not to mention banning the sale of new machine guns and changing other laws.
Do you really have a range where you're allowed to blast watermelons?
Are tater cannons welcome as well?
Most places outside of my yard frown on those kinds of things.

It is a private range, the SGL ranges, gun club ranges, and public ranges generally frown on it. I imagine tater cannons would be ok as well. This place is pretty accommodating, although Clove Hitch was the one who was bringing the fruit targets, and it looks like he is not making it. I have 10 lbs of tannerite that needs to be shot at though, and this seems like the perfect time for that. The range itself has a bunch of steel targets, aside from any miscellaneous plinking targets we bring. The owner has even offered to set up a steel target course where folks can shoot the course from the back of a moving pickup.

Very cool. I just got my FFF delivered today, so I now have everything (thanks to atoyot for the advice and shopping list) I need to shoot the Navy. I will bring my 44 as well, it is easily the most fun per trigger pull of any handgun I have.

For gosh sakes, book your flight!! I'll pick you up at PHL; an arrival of around 15:00 should leave time to pick up luggage and clear the city, and make it to the mountains with time to smell the roses. You could Fed Ex your hardware... or borrow some.... It's hard to shoot more than two at a time, anyway.

Nah, I don't think I want to try to explain my tater cannon to any cargo companies. Maybe I can participate via Skype. Do a night firing of the tater gun during the fireworks show or something.

Try the Springfield Arms XD40 instead - I'm making a very big assumption that bein' a girl, you don't have big hands. The grip on most full sized Glocks is kinda hard to learn for less than monkey paws. The XD40 gives you the best of the Glock w/the old 1911 style grip. Even though I like my model 21 Glock, I still think that the 1911 grip is a LOT more comfortable and easier to shoot well.

I would second the XD 40 being a very nice pistol. My brother has one, and I do like it but I am more of a Ruger guy myself. My son hates the Ruger pistols and the XD, he really likes the Beretta M9 (well he really likes the HK MK23, but that one is a bit out of his price range). Everyone has their preferences.

In all seriousness - I'm really sorry that work intruded on an opportunity to meet so many SA'ers IRL - Maybe some of ya could make the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum's Oyster Festival on 3 Nov? No shootin' - but, a cool spot and good food and music.

I'll have to at least look into that "arster" fest, if SWMBO doesn't have plans for us especially since (as far as I know) we won't be doing our annual VA winery visiting circuit this fall.

mmmm, oysters. I don't see how byc and I could miss that. We are already thinking about a Spring meetup. I am thinking late March, so it should not interfere with turkey season, boat prep, or sailing.

But I'm sorry I missed this - looks like a good time.
I very much like the idea of a spring meet.

the USP 45 is a good compromise. I don't have 2k to blow on a .45..
He doesn't either. No doubt the USP is nice. It is very hard to argue with the quality of the H&Ks
were I depending on it for my life? HK would be the only answer. I love their rifles more than the handguns. G3's all the way.
I heart my HK .45 USP Compact. My absolute go to. Though I will say my Sig 9mm Navy is a trusty old girl.
I am sorry I could not make it this year, but if a spring redux happens, I am there.
Has he handled the Mk23? It's a ginormous piece.

Well, I'm back on home soil (or at least grandkid soil) and can attest to having a really great time. A perfect host and exceptional hostess, cool family, and a fireworx experience to be remembered for a long time (including the humorous ending!).
Thanks again for a fun time.
Glad you enjoyed. It was a hoot and a half seeing my daughter shoot that Tennessee rifle of yours.

Not sure, just know he likes it. It would be some time before he is actually in the market for one, for now he is content with the M9. How heavy/big is the MK23?
There will definitely be a spring event, just trying to sort out the best date now. It would be so much easier if I could peer into a crystal ball and see if things thaw out by mid march or mid april. I was thinking last weekend in March, but that is Easter weekend so not the best date for this. I will post here or start a new thread once a firm date is set.

Excellent, look forward to it.
Re: the Mk23, it's humongous. And heavy. And a couple g's. It's a beautiful work of art, as quality of a handgun as you will fined in history, but highly impractical. It was a good thought, but ended up way to big to be useful for operators. It's in between a good sub machine gun and a pistol really, so sort of resides in this nether where it's not all that good for anything. There is a reason the guys are all carrying Sig 226's with coated internals for the most part. A lot more effective. If I was the armorer, I would have picked the HK USP series, but that is another story....

Fuk me but that looked like fun. I wonder if your next shoot-'em-up could coincide with that orgasmic gun for all that is Knob Creek, Kentucky? That would be worth a road trip right there. Plus, I could take over your galley and teach you fukers something about Mexican food & cerveza.....
Are you talking about the Knob Creek machine gun thingy? They don't have that on the calendar yet, but it looks like they typically do that second weekend in April. Looks like a fun time, and would roughly coincide with when I was hoping to run the next one. In fact, I might make the run down there for that, looks like about a twelve hour drive from here, so definitely doable for a long weekend.
Northeast PA is the Sahara desert of good Mexican food, there is nothing here. In fact, it is pretty much the Sahara desert of any ethnic food, thank God BYC is a most excellent chef when it comes to Peruvian and Italian cuisine. We would gladly turn over the galley to your control in exchange for some tasty Mexican food.

Actually, you did not forget to forget. Found a vest this morning that I am sure is yours. PM me your address and I will mail it down to you. We can find another reason for you guys to come up.

Trust me, you want booth there, his personal collection would dwarf what was present at the lil round up this weekend. Guy could outfit a small militia. Sniper included (I see you 8x57, my shoulder still stings).
Not sure how much of that he would want to drag across the country, but as long as his Mexican food is half as good as he says, he would be a most welcome VIP if all be brought was a pellet gun.
PS. I think what you are looking at is my Mosin Nagant in 7.62 x 54r. It does not have a terrible kick, but it was the most adept at slicing through 1/4 inch steel. I have a Mauser as well, but not in that photo.

You guys are pansies. Shoot a .460 Weatherby and get back to me.
Heh,
Recoil energy
7.62 x 54R - 15
7x57 mauser - 15
7mm Rem Mag - 21
50 BMG - 70
460 Weatherby - 99
cite
I have the first three on that list, and I am cool with the recoil on all 3, but I can't imagine the recoil from my 7mm Mag multiplied by 5. Gotta be some serious engineering going into any rifle that shoots that round.

Now I really gotta find a place out here that has one I can test shoot. I know the 226 Navy and M9, but have not had a chance to handle the USP yet. If it is really that good, it just might have to make my Christmas wish list.

Yea, its on the heavy side (which isn't necessarily bad in a 45..). I'm an unabashed fan boy of the HK stuff, got hooked in the 80's.

Heavy and big are good for me. There is a place not to far from here and right on the way back from Philly that carries HKs and also has an indoor range where they do rentals. I will have to see if they have an HK rental or trade in I could test shoot.
Edited to add:
Just saw they have one of these there in their rental inventory, full auto and all.

Try an M&P 9. Many of the small hands set like the M&P over the XD and the Glock. Have them put on the small backstrap.
And the M&P comes in pink.

Sure - rather than be defended by the East Coast SAers, he chose to stay within range right here with me.

Wondering where he would have been more "out of harm's way", here or there ... then again, I'm the one who landed in Emerg by the end of this weekend, not him so ... (angelic look) Ah yes, the fearsome Bowgirl, felled by a splinter

Never been there, but from what I gather nothing is suppressed. I imagine it has got to get real loud in there, besides the full auto, they allow rifle calibers up to 300 wsm.

Well... most women really want sparkly, but they'll settle for pink. And you'd be surprised: my Honey-Bunch, SWMBO, aka Charlotte Foxtrot, couldn't wait to install a neon pink butt cover and lever pad on the Marlin 1894C lever action rifle she "appropriated" from me.
The S&W M&P 9 pistol is accented in pink - quite tastefully, for pink. And the pistol sales support the Susan B. Koleman foundation.

And yes, I've seen Gloria Stienham stand-ins go all girlie when they see a pink pistol or rifle.

New Zealand, Norway and Finland do not regulate suppressors. In Sweden, you have to ask, but they always say yes.
In a more sane world, shooting without one would be considered impolite.
