Are there any replays online of the Olympic races?

^ Do the Olympics officials have 2cm GPS accuracy, on-board cameras, multiple helicopter live views of the start line, with a superimposed line sponsored by LV?

SOP is nice in a quaint kinda way, but ACWS has raised the bar to a whole new territory.

The Olympics TV coverage - does it show ~any~ live on board cameras? Overhead layline graphics? Lead line grids? Real time speeds in knots for each boat? If not then what ~do~ they have? Just some guy droning on about the great GB hope BA incessantly, on just another triangle in the far distance?

Too soon to say , they haven't done any sailing yet :D

Actually they did sail today and Ainslie was beaten twice by the Dane.

Yes stingray the Olympics do have decent coverage, in the us we only get nbcolympics.com webcast with no voice over. Decent graphics with ahead behind lines, helicopter shots ect. Nothing line ACWS, but pretty good actually. No Inboard cams today, but I only was able to see the star race. I'll bet the women's match racing has on board cams.

2nd race finish of hhe stars was amazing. Scheidt beat Percy by an rch, if that. If you don't know what an rch is, then you don't really race.

My bad I will have to start recording more than NBC. Did Ainsley go off on any camera men :)

Edit: that's a great site , thanks for the heads up . 5 hrs of sailing coverage set for Wed.

Apparently you haven't actually watched it, otherwise you would know the answer is yes. But keep it coming with the preconceptions, it's very amusing.

Just watched the 49er race and coverage was excellent, helicopters, virtual-eye, closeups from shore etc.
These live feeds are really messing with my productivity :D

Just back from work and logging into the BBC stream BA is getting ready, is it a replay? Have I compeltely missed the 49ers (oh, how much I was looking forward to them) or will there be any more races by them today?

So here is a world class upwind start. Not that a reaching start would provide any difference, but without helicopters how could you tell whether two boats, three boats or just one boat is over the line early?

FYI, Olympic coverage is spectacular if you can get it online.

Really, try BBC. But I cannot tell you, if I'm just looking at a replay or something new. Have to find my way in... (or you help me).

I'm in Germany (sometimes with a British IP-Address Posted Image) and it won't work either. Loads for ages, but without success.

EDIT: Won't work with Chrome and FF, but I got a signal with IE.

I can't make

http://www.eurovisionsports.tv/london2012/

or nbcolympics.com

work at all! I'm stranded in China without any apparent access to the Oly sailing feeds. I searched on Chinese national TV, they're ot covering it, and on the leading Chinese search engine, I can only turn up some clips from the 1948 Oly Star races.

HELP!!!

^

http://forums.sailin...pic=137356&st=0 describes how some people outside the UK have got access to the BBC coverage. Just don't then moan about the commentary being Brit-orientated......

If it's not going to be easily available to those outside of the UK I'm not interested in trying to chase it down.

It will be remembered as the Olympics that wasn't broadcast around the globe and had excessive VIP seats empty.

My friend, you screwed the pooch on this one.

Wow! 45 minutes to get on line, but this coverage is awesome! And by awesome I mean aerial footage, mark roundings, race graphics, on board f'n cameras and gun to gun coverage.
In all seriousness, super bummer if you can't wade through all the tech stuff or don't pay enough for TV.
Dogwatch, is this the most wrong you've ever been, or just today? Uh, good call Dogwatch.

Tedious but interesting is looking at position changes on the short reaches on the quad courses. Other than a half dozen not. For reaches to become technical they usually need length.

Been watching the babes' pre-starts in the Elliott 6M in the Olympics. Pre-starts have been very exciting, with dozens of circles all leading to the final engagement and run up, but I keep coming back to how much less value these starts have than an ACWS reaching start. After all the circling, charging, back downs and so on, there still seems to be an initial point of contact where one of the boats can take a controlling position. The controlling position usually leads to winning one side of the course rather than dominance like it must in a reaching start to close mark. There are just too many opportunitiesfor a well sailed boat to escape and go the other way. Therefore, winning the start against a well sailed boat means winning the preferred side of the course rather than being clear ahead with your opponent sucking gas.

One simple conclusion is that an upwind, match racing start is an exercise in predicting the favored side of the course… which I'll suggest is a lot more random than two competitors meeting in the box and using the rule's of sailing to impose their will.
