"Go away" is one bit of good advice you received but didn't follow so you can't claim to have learned that.

Another admonishment was to write in English. That too seems to have been ignored or forgotten. Consider your topic title "Anyone here doing club 420 North Americans?" While that represents a small bit of progress over most of the drivel you posted in the UNH Sailing thread, it is still not a sentence.

Also, your diction remains curious at best. Consider your use of "doing." Doing is generally an intransitive verb, not a transitive verb. The one exception might be the racing sailors idiom "I am really going to enjoy doing the blond crew on that boat. She has a nice slim rear and big knockers hanging out of her bikini top." "The blond crew" is the object of the verb.

So NTY please, please go away until you can express yourself like someone worthy of attending college. It will really help you around here.

With sincere wishes for a happy healthy and productive life, your pal,

WW

You are known. You should register a new identity and new user name. You've rejected that suggestion before, but now you know: the old thread will haunt you forever. Can you imagine being Nimrod the Younger when you're forty? Get it over with and start a new life. Maybe it will work better than your old one, if you've learned anything.

not that i want to stick up for NTY or anything but 420 sail numbers can be whatever the hell you want them to be, they have no relation to when the hull was made.

que? i sailed a boat in the 3900's, before our club bought new boats which were in the 4400's, then the boats i coached last summer were in the 4700;s (were about 1yr old before they took delivery of unnused boats), and i think i saw one in the 5000's last summer. In Opti's the sail number might not correlate perfectly, but im fairly certain that its fairly close with c420's. Of course you can sail with whatever you want if you dont - like if you're using someone elses sails - so long as no one else in the regatta is using that sail number as well. I've sailed with my 29er as 11, 88, 1047, and 200. only one of those is my actual number, and its not 1047....

but, generally, if you're not having to put numbers on at the last minute.... why would you not sail with the proper sail->hull number?

Quickly, that might support the point. I remember when 3806 and 3807 came to my club, new, when I was still learning. I raced hull 4807 my last year of 420 racing when it was brand new and that was 2006 if memory serves. 4807 now looks like a shitter but that's what you get when it's a club/squadron boat being heavily (ab)used for 6 years. I've sailed on a boats in the 5500's and newer, I actually saw 5500 and a 5800-series boat rigged today, definitely not new.

It may vary greatly by manufacturer, these were (for the most part) PS2000s, a few Vanguard/LP/Zim boats, but none were way out of the vague numbering scheme I was seeing... Check CORK results from last year: http://www.cork.org/...0-qualifier.htm and you'll see a lot of boats with 62XX, 63XX, and 64XX numbers...

er111a, find the hull number (should be engraved as part of the serial number) on your boat, if it is actually 1011 that boat's either really old or someone's been messing with the numbering scheme. Though of course I'm sure you can race whatever number you want as long as it doesn't conflict with someone else.

For those doing the regatta how exactly will the scoring work if the fleet is divided? We are now up to 132 boats.

Presumably like every other big-fleet regatta in the world. Or however the SIs describe it. Dude, come on, asking questions like that isn't going to improve your reputation around here...

Hull numbers are up to the 7K's now. I'm at the edgartown regatta now and they're are some new charter zims 7000+

My skippers 6448 hull is from early 2011

As far as the split goes for NA, since it's over 100 boats they will split the fleet into 4 fleets, with 2 starts (red+ green fleets into one start etc)

Falmouth yc has some tricky conditions. Theres always a shit ton of current with generally light wind conditions.

Nothing like being on starboard layline 20 yards from the windward mark in 4 knots of breeze and 6 knots of current... Going BACKWARDS.

The race committee likes to *try * to sail you in all conditions. Even no wind.

Huh...over 100 boats = 4 fleets? I remember racing in some 420 na's years back that had well over 100 on one line. Also, 6 knots of current is, conservatively, about 3x the current that you'll see in Falmouth. Take your 420 down to Hells Gate and your might see something on that order, but even that's doubtful. Good luck

On the floater days the tactic is to usually bang the side next to the beach going as close as you can to get out of the current. Oh and the ferries usually go right by the racing area. Huge boat wake coming off those is always fun

Tell you what..... that 3kt uphill current is not friendly when trying to get a front line start. Got pushed over the line first two races today and had barely enough speed to round the comitee boat. felt like we were on a treadmil. Somehow managed to salvage the two races with a 34 and a 20. Thank god theyre going by bow numbers.. somehow our sail number got registered wrong. its not even close to what it should be.

if anybody cares (doubt it)... heres the results
