What was up with Brad Read's meltdown at the Sail Newport regatta today? He was yelling and getting into it with the sailors in the J24 and Etchells fleets. Really unprofessional conduct. The guys on our Etchells directly witnessed him lay into the junior staff members working the hoist. When one of the Star sailors questioned him on the treatment of the staff, Brad started getting into it with him.

A note to the junior staff at Sail Newport: you guys and gals were great. Don't let that jerks treatment of you make you think otherwise. Your support was greatly appreciated by the sailors.

A note to the Board of Directors of Sail Newport: an apology from the organization to the sailors in the regatta for the conduct of you Executive Director is warranted.

Considering the amount of time and effort that Brad has put into making our sport successful, enjoyable and accessible to people I am of the opinion that the only apology necessary here is one from you for dragging the name of a good man through the mud here on SA. I'm sure that we've all had bad days at the office but by no means does that give someone the right to try to publicly rip us to shreads.

Poor form.

The end-of-the-regatta hoist area at Sail Newport gets ugly. Usually because the sailors act like total douchebags.

The they all whine to Brad.

Been there witnessed the ugly bullshit, and you are correct about the douchebags. The J/24 guys are alright, the Etchells guys suck. Kind of like the real NYYC attitude.
I've launched my boat there for about 10 years for Block and other Newport events, Brad has been nothing BUT professional and kind. He has also helped me or sent one of his employees over to help. The guy is a class act, and I am sure someone provoked him to lose it. He is aloud to rip into people from time to time, he built that place to what it is, so he must be doing something right!

+1 for each of my kids that learned to sail at Sail Newport.

Running SN comes with lots more criticism than praise no matter how good a job you do.

But Hey Stuart, maybe we are all wrong and you can set us straight. While your at it, tell us, apart from a trimaran video or two, what you ever did that comes close to teaching over 1,000 people a year to sail....

I hear deafening silence...
