I'm guessing there is evidence strong enough to call it a homicide, i.e. bullet holes, blood, etc. I doubt they would be calling it if there wasn't something obvious on there.

I have never met the man, but damn I'm sorry to hear this. Only time will tell but I can think of several scenarios that would make the cops suspicious without involving murder, especially if he took the boat out for a test run and was dismasted offshore. Keeping fingers crossed, he may still be alive out there in a PFD.

Many police agencies employ homicide detectives to investigate these types of cases. The Sheriff's Department spokesman in the video merely said "Homicide investigators are investigating the incident." There is a big difference between a death being investigated "as a homicide" (as the reporter in the video claims) and being investigated "by homicide investigators." I don't know anything about this particular case, but it may be that (surprise) the media made an assumption based on a misunderstanding of the involvement of homicide investigators.

A panga full of illegals came ashore while we were surfing in El Porto a few weeks ago, so there is plenty of stuff going on offshore. Ironically the boat that came through the line-up found one of the only fences on the entire beach. (By a power plant)
