So.. Turkey Slapper isn't going to like this.. Or maybe he will.. I cant remember to much whinging and not enough facts on here.. But here goes..

Does anyone have info on the Magic 25 that put a tiny mainsail and Symmetric Spinnakers on for a gift SMS rating?

Can anyone confirm the "Traps in OD trim" rule? Can't find it anywhere.

It didnt run traps.
You want to have a read of the ASBA constitution.

Most ASBA events have this in the eligibility for entry section of the NOR:
1.4 Rule 49.1 shall not apply to Melges 24 and Magic 25 Sports Boats if racing in compliance with their respective class rules and it is noted on the Sports Boats SMS Certificate that the rating incorporates hiking devices

Yep noted.

But In compliance with their rule.. Would this mean you could rate smaller Mainsail area/girths than Class but still be allowed traps?
Or do boats such as M24 and Magic 25 just get given an OD TCC based on the rig plan?

you want traps, you run off OD TCC

also if you want traps you must sail a Magic (class)

you may/might be able to run undersize sails but the rating won't change

I'm not aware of the Magic class rules (which are to be followed if you want traps under ASBA) but i don't think they ban smaller sails, or two mainsails .. maybe

Correct - class rating will not change, based on class spec's and Locked In, but ok to run smaller No# 2 Jib, Main or Kite.

Only Class OD Magic's are allowed to run traps for M25/ASBA/YA sanctioned events.
