Amazing video! Where and when?
Apparently . . . September 7, Toquart Bay, in Barkley Sound (west coast of Vancouver island - a place where they have had a couple different whales make 'home' over the years). When we were last cruising there, there was a killer whale attacking (and breaking) rudders.

(The things we do for beer money. Only redeeming feature was Charlotte "I made you forget Bo Derek was in that movie" Rampling.)

One more example of how puny we realy are when it comes to the sea. So, what if the rope wouldn't have broke? Boat gets dragged to sea? I'm guessing a whale could easily dive and pull that thing down with it, no?

I would think a boat like that would have thousands of pounds of bouyancy. A whale is probably close to neutrally bouyant. It could never drag down the boat.
It could however, hurt itself badly caught up in the rope. And tear cleats off the boat. And leave the boat adrift.
Amazing video.
