Just uploaded the first race of the 88 cup. I know it is boring as fuck, but it is fun to watch that whiny cunt Michael Fay talk about sportsmanship.

I can't get these links to work. Any advice?
Thanks
It's not just you, I can't get on this site either ATM. Happens sometimes, try in 15 minutes again.
I have difficulties downloading Race 1. No peers around to seed?
Thanks a lot, PL!

Who owns this, ESPN? Technically, your not supposed to load copyrighted material to youtube. Why cant someone put this on youtube, I dont know what torrents are.
Though it doesn't seem to stop many people. It is a complaint based system though.
Bit torrent is essential knowledge - don't be afraid.
Actually a very profound bit of technology. The very essence of why the internet was created.
Anybody know of torrents for Freemantle or AC33 or ??

There once was a torrent for AC33, race 1 in English, race 2 in Romanian. It's from years ago, so I doubt, that someone's still seeding. The link should be somewhere in this forum, I will have a look... (but probably won't find it).
EDIT: That was fast!!!
Race 1: http://thepiratebay....le.Race1.SD.ENG
Race 2: http://thepiratebay....le.Race2.SD.Rom
And there are even peers around!!!

3h 59m first race
3h 44m for 2nd race
Compare with AC33:
2h 53m race 1
2h 21m race 2
One thing very fascinating is NZ Govt Tourism sponsorship even back then, I didn't realise it went back quite so far.

I have Freemantle up at the pirate bay. Just click on my user name on the 88 torrent. I can put 33 up as well. I have both races. The second race is in Romanian, but I have the English audio from the live stream. I just need to find the time to combine the Romanian video and English audio and then I will upload it.

For comedy value, check out 2:44:50. One of the guys pulling in the spinnaker falls overboard briefly.http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/7828230
Here is the second race. The first race is fully seeded now.

There were spam posts that have been deleted in the meantime. The forum might be rude sometimes (huge understatement), but there should be nobody around who says that pl's efforts are junk.

After the Kiwis got their asses kicked in Race 1, they should have been looking a for a catamaran to sail. I dont care where they got it from.

"Limp as a sausage"??? Who is this guy? Unique banter /style of broadcasting.
Well, I did laugh...no complaints here! I am saving that for Oprah Winfrey.

Can someone explain to me why the Kiwis didnt switch to another boat for Race 2? I believe you had to pick your boat only 10 minutes from the start.

TNZ owned a cat that they trained against in the lead up to thoses races. I don't remember what it was or how long it was though. I have yet to digitize the Road to the Cup programs from that summer where it showed TNZ training with their cat. I don't think they wanted to use a cat in the races as Michael Fay was more focused on the legal aspects of this cup. I am guessing using a cat would nullify their case against DC and by the second race I think they thought their only chance to get the cup was in the courts.

The challenger names their boat in the challenge. The Defender names their boat by the morning of the race.
Only in modern times with a protocol does a challenger get to name a boat when having more than one built. DoG matches do not allow such privileges to a challenger.
Anyway, race 2 in '88 was the better one.........for about 30 minutes.

Believe me the 'style' gets old.
He was an important part of sailing broadcasting in NZ, and is still involved via radio.
He never got on top of the technicalities of sailing, concentrated more on personalities, which was interesting and informative at times but he tended to repeat 'old saws', (soundbites I guess in modern parlance) and even seemed to have a fair bit of his commentary pre-determined in the later part of his television career.
Give me Jenny and Mitch now any day...
