From edasner in the J111 goes sailing thread -

"The 2013 J/111 North American Championships (hopefully worlds, if we can get some European teams to come) have been granted to Chicago Yacht Club to be held at its Belmont Station, August 15-18, 2013. We are sorting out the details, but wanted to get the date out to people as soon as possible, so they can make plans. At this point we know that free dockage will be available to the out of town boats for the event, and the the Verve cup the weekend prior.

Much more information to follow. Please join us!"

___

Added bonus in July, you can knock the Chicago Mac race off your bucket list. We had 10 J111's race N in 2012... nothing like a 300+ mile 1D race as a tune up for the NA's!

So then take the reigns and make it easy for them to fly in all sorta Rock Star, just jump on the Green boat and fly out at the end. As you said the wedding is not till the next weekend. BTW what kind of a sailor is involved with wedding plans during the summer?!?

snappy vid from the F40 Worlds over the summer... come on to the Windy City!

In fact, within a 4 week period, a travelling J/111 could participate in the Chicago Mac, the Harbor Springs Ugotta Regatta, the Chicago Yacht Club Verve Cup (which will be used as pre-NA's), and the NA's themselves. All ONE DESIGN starts.

Question is, will any of the wingnuts from LIS go?
My guess would be NO!

Hello All,

Anyone who is considering coming in from out of town to Chicago to take advantage of the full month of One Design fun (over 12 days of 1D J111 racing) starting with the 105th Race to Mackinac ending with the NAC's please. please, please click through on the link http://competitor.cy...requestinfo.cfm to request an invitation to participate sooner rather than later.

This is a popular race that will fill to capacity and we would like you to be able to join us as we sail up the lake. Last year we had a 10 boat section battling all the way north with only an hour spread for the section, 6 111's finished in the top 10 for the Mackinac Cup.

If you ever wanted to cross this, the oldest annual fresh water distance race in the world, off your bucket list with your boat then this could be the perfect time to come to Chicago!

Just curious if the 111 in the picture (USA 12) is going to be able to measure in with that Code Zero and bobstay. Is a bobstay class legal?

If a bobstay is not class legal, you really picked a bad picture. If I'm from out of town, I not going to put my boat on a trailer unless I know there are no "local" issues.

BTW: That bobstay and/or the pole extension could use some adjustments. I don't think the sprit should be angled up quite so far.

Rest easy RATM.  The class rules will be strictly adhered to.  That picture was from the Mac race where code zeros and bobstays are allowed for the class.  We only allow them here for that race and a couple other distance races that dont count for any series.  12345 used that picture because he liked it.  Re: pole angle, I see your point, and we will adjust it next time, but we won anyway.

The class rules were made effective sept 2012 by jboats. They do not mention bob stays and since they are closed rules they are NOT allowed.

The class rules are modified for the Chicago Mac race per agreement of fleet 1 (lake michigan fleet) and chicago yacht club to allow bob stays just for that race as well as two additional spinnakers.

Kevmo why did you make that post when its not true?

Not sure how to attach files on here, but I can email you the rules effective may 15 2013. Send me a pm with your email and I will send you the new rules. Hopefully I read it right.

Apparently Kevmo is right after all. He sent me a pm with updated may 2013 class rules that now expressly allow a bob stay. I hereby apologize to him. Jboats had not yet sent sent the new rules to all the owners.
