This was a shock to me. I know that his dad passed away young also.maybe. It was a hereditary heart problem.Does anyone have more information? Dying of natural causes while in your fifties is kind of a scary thought! Still, Chris was always a great sailor and we were lucky to count him as a friend for a lot of years. In fact, he is responsible for connecting us with our successful vessel, the Sydney 36 named Fins. We will miss you, Chris!

Sad news. I corresponded with Chris about common issues in brokerage while he was with JK3. He was forthright and very knowledgeable about sailboats.
Sail on Chris.

You were the best of shipmates. Generous, fair, mindful of the boat and crew, competitive. You left us laughing. We sailed many miles together on SCARLET O'HAHA. SORC, Clipper Cup, Admiral's Cup. You were the go to guy. Thanks for the good memories Chris. We'll miss you.

Seems he could get on any boat - I mean ANY boat - and beat you.
He'll be missed.

Jim: how did you know Chris? We knew from Encinal Yacht Club, from our time living in Alameda.
He was involved with J Boats back when I was buying my J/35. Then, years later I ended up doing the refit on the same J/35 next door to his office in Nelson's Boatyard. We weren't all that close, but we knew who each other were. We had a good time catching up talking about the "old days" and Don Trask who was a mover and shaker way back when we met.

It notes that there will be a service at Encinal YC Friday Nov 30 at 1:00pm.
It's been a great honor to sail quite a lot with Chris over the last few years. What a great experience, cumulating with this past summer's Pacific Cup. He was excited to do another Hawaii race, particularly with his son Jesse. I sure do miss him. We were just getting ready to dive into the Berkeley midwinters in Dec. damn. Great guy and good friend.

If anyone has that, I would greatly appreciate it if they could scan it or take a picture of it and send it to me. I seem to have misplaced, lost or thrown out that material from my hoarder's lair.
Thanks in advance!

If anyone has an Owner's Manual for the Santana 35 built by WD Schock, the illustration of the backstay rigging (I believe) is a drawing of Chris driving Front Page News.
If anyone has that, I would greatly appreciate it if they could scan it or take a picture of it and send it to me. I seem to have misplaced, lost or thrown out that material from my hoarder's lair.
Thanks in advance!
I'll ask Doug S. if he has it. I suspect that he does.

No one and I mean no one could a spin a doughnut like Chris.
He was extremely kind to me during a very difficult time in my life, and I will treasure his friendship forever.
See you all at Encinal at 1PM on Friday.

it was a gathering of people that showed you what kind of guy Chris was. .Chris you are leaving big shoes to fill. You will be missed.EYC was packed with many friends and competitors as well as all his family. a testimony to a great guy. For those who were asking earlier, he had a heat attack in his sleep.

At this point, I'm imagining that Chris has signed on as watch captain with Gardner McKay, as they race to Tahiti...
For those of you too young to 'get' the obscure reference to the best sailing movie ever: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063117/
